Jason, what an amazing and touching video. The Elaine sticker had everyone choked up, I'm sure. This had to be the most satisfying videos to produce for this project. I would imagine the only one to compare so far would be getting the 2nd engine to fire up. It's been a long road with many obstacles, but the journey seems to be nearing the end. The shear relief of seeing the Phoenix with her new wings had to be very emotional. (Lt. Dan, you got new legs!!!) This has to be my favorite video to date. Hope it gets 10 Million views.
So excited to see the final product.

So much good stuff to come, running lines and cables and connections for the wings, mounting the engines, running lines and cables in the interior, hardware and gauges, can't wait. I'm going through stuff with my teeth that probably won't get fixed so it's good to see Joe getting his fixed. Great to see that not only are you giving back to those around you but honoring the ones lost. Great to see how far you've come since the first episode where you were only trying to get an engine to fire having no idea where this was going to lead.

Just wanted to say outstanding job to all for getting those wings installed. The bullet alignment tool comes in real handy. I've made several of them many times. Jumbling the wing around in different directions always helps line up bolt holes surprisingly. Putting the wing bolts in the freezer helps shrink the metal so they fit in the holes easily. Same also works wonders when installing bearings. Another trick I would do is spray the bolts with zink oxide and install the bolts wet. This will protect the bolts from corrosion, particularly from bi-metal corrosion where two dissimilar metals come together. I would recommend torque sealing the bolts to insure they don't move. Makes 100 hour/Annual inspections go a little smoother. Being an old A&P mechanic, my experience has been some wings go on fairly easy and others will fight you to the end no matter what. I have installed a lot of wings over the years whether its a general aviation aircraft or vintage warbirds. Congratulations on achieving this milestone in your restoration. Keep up the great work!

My father was a great mechanic, and an Air Force E-9 in avionics. All your effort reminds me of his projects, and I am glad you guys are pushing this forward.
However much work and time you put into this however, it pales beside the work you do with people. From honoring the co-pilot, to helping Joe, including Sam, to thanking and encouraging everyone who contributed, to dedicating this plane to flying on behalf of people who need it. More than all the troubleshooting and tool work I learned from my dad, the most important lesson he ever showed me was that a true leader takes care of his or her people, and I appreciate seeing you display that admirable trait.

I have had my concerns at times in the beginning to be sure, that you probably didn't "truly understand" the complexity of the job that was ahead of you all.
The with mad rush to paint the fuselage, a prime example. but, I will also say to you all, that from that project "re-set" point, the project has got a lot more relistic in its goals and outlook.
I'm genuinely impressed by the team's determination and dedication as the project continues to mature.
I will also tell you that I'm strangely emotional for all of you after your latest instalment today.
This is the "end of the beginning", and you should all be very proud of yourselves.
It's now the beginning of the end now, for this fantastic project.
You still have a ton of work left to do, but the aircraft will now start to accelerate and come on in leaps and bounds as you start to re-install the various sub-systems, such as the electrical system and the engines etc, and breed new life back in to the aircraft once again.
I tell you, the day you finallv plug electrical ground power onto the aircraft for the first time, following the rebuild, is going to truly be the day that the aircraft will finally, "truly" come to life again, and that day will be a massive leap closer for you all.
    Gordon Fraser.

    For all you non-Pennsylvania Dutch....
    Rutsching (Rutsched):
Rutsching is another loanword that comes from the Pennsylvania Dutch verb “rutsche,” meaning to squirm. The term rutsching utilizes the English suffix “ing,” Butch Reigart, the dialect teacher at Lancaster Mennonite Historical Society, explained. Reigart also mentioned that “rutschy” is used as an adjective to mean “can’t sit still.”
    You are welcum. 😊

I’ve been enjoying the progress of the 401 from the beginning. On the downside I’ve been getting more and more annoyed by the over dramatic music. In my opinion I’d much rather hear the sounds of work and tools and such. I realize not everyone feels the same way but for me music has its place but not in a work environment.

What’s the schedule for painting? I thought the 401 was going someplace for paint. So happy wings back on

In the lyrics of a popular Guy Clark song.
“ Stuff that works, stuff that holds up
The kind of stuff you don't hang on the wall
Stuff that's real, stuff you feel
The kind of stuff you reach for when you fall.”
    These onions are spicy.

The only problem with putting wings on (as I found out) is having to walk all the way around the darn things every time you forgot a tool or part. Every part or tool you will need from now on will be on the opposite side of the wing from wherever you are. At first it doesn't seem like a big deal, but after a while you begin to realize how much time you are wasting walking around the darn wings!

Have followed the rebuild of the 401 from day 1, that was quite an emotional speech Jason. I really look forward to seeing the rescue missions especially animal rescues. I am passionate about animal welfare so for you guys to use the 401 for these types of rescues, as well as many others I am truly grateful. Please accept a small donation to help these missions come alive. Great work done by all, truly a team effort.

Great job guys this was a huge step and you guys aced it. Personally I was worried after seeing how hard the wings were to get off and putting different wings back on seemed kinda another challenge. Quality control at Cessna came through an you guys hard work made it happen. Great video Congratulations. Big hurdle jumped!!!

A great big effort from all the guys. I am not sure if I have said this before, but I am watching this from England. So it will be great to see it fly on video, if that's possible. When you have it all finished. And ready to fly! 🙂

Can anyone explain why they were so adamant they weren't hitting the bolts hard? In aviation is everything supposed to fit without any binding and so any hammering can be considered not compliant or something?

Is there a reason why you guys don't have the maintenance manual, or IPC readily available at least electronically you have to have that when you do this type of work you can't be shooting from the hip.

It is awesome to see a community come together and awesome to see the wings on and the 401 sitting almost on its own weight again. I was crying when putting the first name on, lost my mother to cancer three years ago, it’s hard for me but it has been harder for my father, they were married 44 years. Great job on the hard work y’all have done on getting the Phoenix one step closer to flying again keep up the good work.

As always, it is great to follow along. This has been a total unique thing at least from my point of view on TH-cam. The way you just brings everyone in on it and what you guys do for the people around you and the plan and vision for this plane and the yacht and everything- it brings back hope that the world can be a better place.
Its great to tag along. I love to see stuff being pulled apart, made nice and put back together again. Doesn't matter if its a plane, car or a yacht. And when you bring so many in on the action it just becomes a unique thing for me. World need less drama and more rebuilds hahaha.
I used to restore and mod cars in another life, and would love to do it again but I'm uncertain if thats ever gonna be possible again because of unexpected health issues (the wheelchair kind of issues), so to be able to sit here and watch a bunch of people like you doing this every Saturday - to me its not just enjoyable but its a part of the week I really look forward to.
    Thanks!
