It's great to watch this St. Peter's team. Feisty, disciplined and confident. I like how the coach pulled his players into line to shake hands right away, as if they had every business winning the game with confidence. They did. Coach Reed of Lehigh did the same when Lehigh (my alma mater) beat Duke in similar fashion. Lehigh couldn't pull off the 2nd round win, but CJ McCollum is having a nice NBA career.

I think I heard that UK'S coach John Calipari's $8 million yearly salary was more than the entire athletic department budget of SAINT PETER'S. Sick how out of control these big school college sports programs have become. Sports is the tail of the dog but it wrongly wags the whole dog. In college sports were originally just meant to get the students out of the library and to get some exercise.
St. Peter's originally couldn't send their cheerleaders to the tournament because they only have 4, which falls under the NCAA minimum for reimbursement. They were able to make it to the 2nd round game after NBC stepped in and helped them out.
It has to do with size. Once something gets too big, it becomes something of a monstrosity. This doesnt just apply to colleges, but corporations and even non-profits. The CEO's of the big nonprofits make $20 million+ a year. At certain point, concentration of wealth is just an overall negative. Just look at rich people in general. Playboy millionaires are no big deal, and a role model of sorts, but megalomaniac supervillain billionaires are a detriment to society.

Basically, Kentucky self-destructed. That was a trend the last few weeks with them. They blew every lead in their final games, even the ones they eeked out wins in. They never recovered from their February injuries. Before that, they were absolutely destroying every opponent. Never got that mojo back.

Kentucky is a 1 and done program and as long as the most overrated "coach" in the history of college basketball is there and as long as players are required to go to college for a year, they will remain a one and done program. Anyone know the class of Peter's starting five? A lot of times in this tournament, the higher ranked teams with better pro prospects have younger talent, and the small schools like Saint Peter's have a bunch of upper classmen who have had a few extra years to mature and play with each other. Better chemistry and physicality. Even though they don't have future lottery picks, they still have the better teams in the here and now. Hence the tourney upsets.
This was the oldest team Cal has had at KY. Only one freshman started and got significant minutes: TyTy Washington. Two 5th year Seniors, and three Juniors that got the majority of the minutes. This loss (and other tournament losses from KY) came down to the “in game” ineptitude of Calipari. Cal has simply been able to “out talent” everyone due to his recruiting prowess and it has camoflauged his inadequecies as a coach. This year it really bit him.
I tell everyone who will listen, if you’re good enough to make it to the dance then you belong there and can beat any team at least once.
Unless your a team from the Mountain West Conference.

Kentucky will not win another title with so many 'one and dones'. The cats rarely have ANY senior leadership because of most players staying one or two seasons. If Cal would or could recruit some quality 'college' players who gradually develop and actually become great college seniors, then they would have more tournament success.

Kentucky is a 1 and done program and as long as the most overrated "coach" in the history of college basketball is there and as long as players are required to go to college for a year, they will remain a one and done program.
And they'll never win this way. Main reason they won in 2012 was due to the NBA lockout going on, convincing a few players to return for that season.

Anyone know the class of Peter's starting five? A lot of times in this tournament, the higher ranked teams with better pro prospects have younger talent, and the small schools like Saint Peter's have a bunch of upper classmen who have had a few extra years to mature and play with each other. Better chemistry and physicality. Even though they don't have future lottery picks, they still have the better teams in the here and now. Hence the tourney upsets.
This was the oldest team Cal has had at KY. Only one freshman started and got significant minutes: TyTy Washington. Two 5th year Seniors, and three Juniors that got the majority of the minutes. This loss (and other tournament losses from KY) came down to the “in game” ineptitude of Calipari. Cal has simply been able to “out talent” everyone due to his recruiting prowess and it has camoflauged his inadequecies as a coach. This year it really bit him.
Yea...Ky has also been to 4 final fours and won a championship in the last 10yrs. Hence their young talent
