- Making his debut in the Australian Test side at the expense of his twin brother Steve, a 25-year-old Mark Waugh made an immediate impact with 138 off 188 balls in his maiden innings of the fourth Ashes Test against England in January, 1991
Mark Waugh made batting look ridiculously easy. He even looked elegant while fielding. He was a effortless cricketeer.
Who all were obsessed to buy that "V" slazenger bat in their childhood?
Me
Yea that was my favourite
Watching him bat was magical!
And looks like a splinter compared to the dried up logs that have come into vogue since Warner and T20s...just shows you it's not always the size that counts!!
Yes, my favourite too
Sir viv, saurav in his debut test, kallis all his life, shaun pollock all his life, sunny gavaskar many a times, azaruddin in england used this bat
The most stylish batsman who made batting look so easy and elegant. His grace and flamboyancy matches likes of Lara and infact even better than him.
Damien Martin , Gibbs and Azharuddin only come after him. Shane Warne once said "Junior makes batting so simple ".
When Mark Waugh arrived at the crease, score was 124/5 when he got out score was 295. So he scored 138 out of 171,that's more than 80% of the runs while he was at the crease! No wonder he's so well regarded. He could change the course of a match when on song.
That too on a debut match 👏👏 .
Not to mention he made it look easy whenever he batted.
It was also about WHO he scored runs against, and when. Against the teams for which Australia was jockeying for the #1 spot in the 90s (West Indies, South Africa, Pakistan) along with England (traditional), M Waugh averaged about 45 compared to his career average of 41. Steve Waugh averaged about 48 compared to a career average of 51. He was rightly regarded as the second most important batsman in the side.
@@dsintheb He was not the second most important batsman in the side, he was equal most important.
It was 4 for 104 when he went in and then it slumped further to 5 for 124. So he scored 138/191 while at the crease. He scored at 73 runs per 100 balls while the rest of his specialist batsmen team mates scored at a combined strike rate of 34.
Everything was stylish about Mark Waugh, the way he used to bat & the way he used to take catches in the slip & loved the way he used bowl off spin 🙂.. The most stylish player ever to play the game of cricket ❤... Love from India 🇮🇳🙂
The most stylish batsmam ever in the history of world cricket ❤
Always my favourite as a mid growing up. That flick of the pads was so elegant. He made it look so easy.
All in the wrist. Classy.
BCCI should come up with this type of TH-cam channel to post classical moments happening in Indian Cricket. These videos do remind or makes everyone around the world to know about the legendary players.
Agree
Bcci people has other interests with them and they don't care about their silly cricket fans. Imagine politicians like Anurag thakur and Sharad powar heading the institution
@@mahi2852 without those silly cricket fans how would they make money.
They trying to sold out everything to star network....
india had crappy camera qualities in 90s and early 2000s
Undoubtedly Mark Waugh is one of the most elegant and stylish batsmas in cricket history 🔥🔥
True..
Agree
The most stylish batsman ever in the world’s cricket ❤
Imagine the dominance of players like Mark Waugh and others of his era if they had the bats of today and the fields smaller with boundary ropes! M.E Waugh, my favourite player ever and childhood hero!!
The most stylish batsman cricket has ever produced…the most elegant batsman.
Wish to see his batting all the time.
Huge fan of Mark Waugh from Pakistan ❤🇵🇰
You're correct but on his day Martin Crowe just edges Mark Waugh in terms of elegant stroke play.
Superb batsman , fielder and treat to watch him batting. Nothing less than devine music in the morning.
Most elegant and stylish batsman played the game till date
Jeez 25 FC hundreds at 25 before debuting. It'd be a miracle to see that now.
Yeah the standard of cricket has really gone down
The seagulls lovely audience of Adelaide n ever graceful mark waugh, is there any better thing one could ask for, wonderful debut of a great batsman always love watching him❤️❤️❤️
Had elegance, timing and was comfortable dealing with fast bowling with timing....and had great footwork to spinners and was always balanced as a batsman
Sachin, Waugh, Lara,Anwar, ponting, klusner my favourites of that era
Tony Greig, Richie Benaud, Bill Lawry and Ian Chappell in the commentary box. What else do you need!
The sound of clapping took this glorious innings to another level to watch it.
True story to this. NSW were playing a shield game in Sydney when the team was named. Mark Waugh couldn’t be contacted as he was with his parents. So they asked Steve Waugh to go tell him..... fancy being dropped and than go tell the bloke who’s replacing you. Never hear of it today. But shows the tough character of the entire Waugh family.
Steve wanted to be the one to tell him because the parents were going to be as devastated for Steve as they would be delighted for Mark.
4:56 it's the only time I saw mark Waugh removing his helmet to celebrate his ton. Usually he would just acknowledge the crowd by just rising his bat but I reckon since it's his debut he did like that. Such a elegant batsman with cool nature.
Greg Matthews seemed more excited than what he was lol
One of the most stylish batsmen
The most elegant right handed batsmen Australia has ever produced
What a good innings by Mark Waugh, it was a treat to watch. Mark Waugh is one of my biggest inspirations in batting. So elegant
Man, I used to lust after Mark Waugh's V100 back when I was a kid...looks like an absolute splinter compared to bats of today 😯
Remember that like it was yesterday, one of history’s most elegant batsmen
Superb batting display in debut 💕💕
Still love watchin his style all these years later. Was a teen thru this era and loved watchin aust do well
Beautiful cut shots 👌. Such a gifted batsman who could play many different shots with absolute ease. Raw talent 👍
A Legendary innings by a Legendary player. Pure classy innings. 👌👌
That six to spinner.awesome
Very elegant batsman
Classic , elegant right-hander, one of the bests from 90's
The greatest elegant right handed batsman of all time.........sir Mark waugh.
After this innings...Mark Waugh told AB "you should have picked me a long time ago!"
Do u know who was the player who got replaced by Mark Waugh in his debut??? His own brother Steve.
he replaced steve waugh.
Those were the days when boundary used to be fence😭😭😭
Barry Richards, David Gower, Mark Waugh are the epitome of style n elegance
Mark Waugh, Damien Martyn and Mike Hussey these 3 were the most elegant batsman Australia has ever produced.
A fantastic knock on debut! 👍
Alwaysss a tough nut for the Indian team. I remember , we used to get the openers out early..and he would stay and build up the innnings. Was always difficult to get his wicket
Junior was my favourite player to watch as a kid, I got his gloves, pads and bat. With the multi-colour patterns.I even tried to be an all rounder off spinner. Its not as easy as he made it look hence my early retirement at 13.😂
One of finest players Aussies produced
Best TH-cam channel in the world Cricket Australia
pure and classical stroke maker. what a player. amazing debut.
Yesterday His scg ton I've seen.... now he becomes my favourite batsman.
I always found it strange that of the most naturally gifted batsmen of the 90s, ( Mark Waugh, Carl Hooper, Mohammed Azharuddin, Saeed Anwar and Brian Charles Lara), only one truly fulfilled his enormous talent, and that is BCL, and even he underachieved (despite averaging 53).Azharuddin averages in the late 40s but we all know his average should have been in the 50s.. I don't know if the game came to easy for them
Valid point.
I agree!
Waugh and Anwar excelled in ODIs.
@@RP-kr2mg this is very true
My favourite cricketer of all time. How easy did he make it look 😊
My childhood hero🔥🔥
Excellent Leg side player and the greatest slip fielder!!
One of the greatest I've seen.
If you Love Cricket you have to admire mark waugh effortless and classy batting
Only man who made a string of ducks look good.
Mark was in a league of his own... He didn't care about his batting average... He only cared about if he was having fun or not... Great slip catcher as well... Enjoyed watching him bat
Classical plyer such a amazing player my best player
This man didn't bat. He drew graffiti on the field using his willow as paintbrush. There are good batsmen, superb batsmen, extraordinary batsmen and of course there is Mark Waugh.
My favorite overseas cricketer
This guy is my favorite player in 90s
The days when he played a pull shot.
I commented before waugh’s debut
His wrists were so much like subcontinent batsmen. Lovely timer and one of the most elegant batsman
MARK WAUGH was a dengorous opener for AUSTRALIA after DAVID BOOM'S retirement🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺♥️♥️
Woaaahh maam aapko bhi interest h cricket me itna
@@a_n_k_u_s_h_20 yes
Sawaaal.!!
Elegant Timing Class. Legend❤❤❤
England has been poaching West Indies talent since the 90's.
They hv been poching every talent be it South African New Zealand or Windies.
Does Monty, Nasser, Ali also feature in this list?
That's what imperialism does for you.
@@dey9293Monty was a very average spinner born in England, Moin Ali is also an English by birth, and Nasser Hussain was Indian born I bet he would've never got a chance to play for India coz when Hussain was playing for England, India had Sachin, Sourav, Rahul, Azhar, Vvs, Jadeja n many others were waiting like Sehwag Yuvraj etc, Hussain couldn't even make in today's English team by his numbers he was a good player but not a big one but he is the best commentator today
It took Steve Waugh 42 innings to make his first Test hundred, it took Mark 1..
It took Steve Waugh to get dropped!
Forgot to mention the commentary team tony greig, bill lawry, richie benaud and Ian chappel in the commentary box with mark waugh batting how good those days were
Every team was gangster untill Australian team enter the match
Worst team of cricket Pakistan
@@glitchmatrix8699 and dumbest award goes to you...be happy with it
That's a classic and stylish knock 😎
Ease n grace in person❤️
We miss that Australia and their fighting spirit
Smooth as silk
Early 90's hairstyle of mark waugh is awesome
Watching this in 2024. Beautiful to watch. Tough day for his brother…he was replaced by Mark for this test, and then he goes and does this.
A legend
Mark waugh(junior)most stylish player......in australia....
Debut at the age of 25 when he was a Legendary batsman. He should have have debuted 3-5 years ago of his real debut age.
The gret legend Sir M Waugh 🌹🌹🇮🇳🇮🇳🌹🌹
My favorite batsman
Technically best
Strong mindset
to be part of Australian test team, you needed 25 first class hundred in those days... Wow...
Mark Waugh, a cool, elegant batsman
He makes cricket look effortless. Imagine being in the field at end of day with Waugh at the crease:
Wife: how was your day?
Man: Relaxing actually.
Mark waugh vs sachin....what a great battle between two big guns
My favourite batsman
Superb player Waugh
Glorious square cuts
Can we just take the time to acknowledge, this was his first test hundred… but his 26th first class ton? That’s… quite a lot for a young cricketer before making a debut
What a match !
Yes really
💯 Against Windies on Debut, Show That he was a Special talent, Now Legend
It was England, dimwit
A stylish players off his legs upright player beautiful to watch Mark Waugh anyday
Eligance Grace and Skill 👍
Steve waugh world's most determind cricketer
lolz video is about Mark Waugh..
Both are confusing
Can we get more from "The Vault"?
The old Adelaide Oval. I do miss it.
I found my love ❤
silken smooth waugh
He is my hero
Dashing ❤
😮love u mark waugh
Mark Waugh is more like the Indian batsman Azharuddin with his wrist work. Easy on the eyes and makes it look easy. Anything even close to the pads gets worked away for four.
Mark Waugh means classic batting
and in typical M Waugh fashion, a soft dismissal
I Love Him
We should also appreciate the knock of the man at the other end, Greig Matthews, not losing his wicket.. After 5 batsman at the top departed cheaply..
Matthews had the best seat in the house he wasn’t giving that up without a fight lol
