Overcurrent protection devices are used to protect conductors from excessive current flow. These protective devices are designed to keep the flow of current in a circuit at a safe level to prevent the circuit conductors from overheating.
Brilliant, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!!! Worked a treat. My PS3 Slim kept shutting down completely after only being switched on 3 or 4 minutes, with no lights on whatsoever, but with these slight tweaks to the two trimpots it works like new again, even after hours of use. You are a genius!!!
Capacitive Power Factor correction (PFC) is applied to electric circuits as a means of minimising the inductive component of the current and thereby reducing the losses in the supply. The introduction of Power Factor Correction capacitors is a widely recognised method of reducing an electrical load, thus minimising wasted energy and hence improving the efficiency of a plant and reducing the electricity bill. most supply companies are happy with a PF of 0.95 to 0.98
My ps3 slim 120 gb had the same problem. I´ve done what you says in your video and for the moment it works! Thak you from Mallorca (Spain). Great tutorial, only i missed the part how to open de the PSU´s plastic cover was more detailled, the rest of the video tutorial is excellent! Congratulations!
I tried this method and its working like new. Used to I could play a movie or game for 10 minutes then it shut down. I tried this method and turned on Call Of Duty Black Ops, played campaign for an hour, still working, paused it and went to town for groceries and was gone for an hour or so. Got home and it was still on and on the pause menu. No signs of heating up and sounded normal. Proceeded to play for another and still worked. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!!
really works. the lineup marks on the screws are not in the same spot on all ps3s, mine were not int the same spot as yours, and i just turned them 10 degrees counter clockwise and it worked like magic. Thank you soooo much
@k0nr This problem is not YLOD, there is no Yellow light or sound alarm, it's like if you had the power cable unplugged. This fix is just a adjustment of the trimpots. Mine is functioning until now, almost 2 years ago since I made this fix. Just do this if you have no more Warranty and can't exchange your PS3. See ya!
Thanks a lot for you video. In fact the most difficult thing is to find the torx 8, after that with your explanation it is so easy. Just be carefull to power supply snap, they are fragile.
my man! you deserve a reward!!! that did the trick for me :) i guess they didn't test the protection circuity in hotter countries. sony is not what it used to be. 20 years ago somebody would get fired for this.
This method works very well for me ! My PS3 has a APS 250 power unit. I tried to fix the components just like in the video, now I am playing FF13 for 30 minutes, no problem observed ! Thanks a lot ! :D
THANK YOU!! This video saved me MONEY! No one was getting it when I kept telling them my problem, they kept saying it was over heating but it wasn't! And this Video saved my PS3 (however if you are still under warranty, USE IT! I wasn't but this fix worked for me!)
Thanks for the quick response. If you are short on cash and can't afford to get a new power supply this fix will work for a few months maybe even a year. Mine lasted for 7 months! But I would suggest getting a new power supply as soon as you can everyone. Thanks again.
By the gods! This actually works! I was about to send it in for a fix and I was already looking for a new ps3 in case it wasn't fixed. Thank you so much!!!
This fix has worked for me and my ps3 slim still works to this day.....just follow the instructions carefully and you shouldnt have a problem. I dont speak spanish either or portugese but i was still able to follow it. Get your tools ready first then go on with the video and follow step by step. I hope this help everyone also. One thing i did also is i put my ps3 on a fan stand so it helps the console to stay cool!
Great video helped me to fix my PS3 have been running already 4h straight without problems. Notice to everyone this fix will probably work 100% sure if you really have this problem with your first-generation PS3 slim that have AP-250 PSU unit inside it. If your PS3 is having YLOD or any other problem this definitely WON'T fix that problem.
Wow. I have to say this video helped me a ton. Fixed my PS3 Slim as advertised. And was very easy to follow without understanding what I think is Portuguese! 😎
@hawksandwolves There were no blinking red lights... It just shuts down, like if you had unplugged the cable... It seems that your problem is other. See ya!
Hey! You are the man! Heres my experience. Ps3 slim purchased of craigslist CHEAP! Would boot dashboard. When you put a game or blue ray dvd in it would load for a few seconds then just SHUT OFF. No YLOD just shut off. My ps3 model is cech. The power supply was aps-270. My advice or what I would add to this for your own good, if there are no marks like the blue ones showed, make marks with a sharpie marker so you know where to turn it back incase you have issues. THANK YOU SO MUCH!
@Sup3rGeo There is no freezing screen, it just turn off, shut down... There is no energy powering the PS3... You need to take off the power cable and then conect it again, and then be able to use it... See ya!
Thanks this actually worked. I thought that my system was over heating, cleaned it out removing all the dust and lint, but the prob still was there, after looking at this and following the instructions the system is now A.O.K. strange that a company large as sony would not know about this defect
After months of doubt I finally did it and... IT WORKS!! Thank you so much! I can now play again! I've been playing for about 5 hours and I even upgraded the firmware to 3.4 today. Thank you very much again! Sin funciona amigos! Se los aseguro! Greetings from Costa Rica!
Thank you lucas, a friend showed me this page and I did it and I just played with my ps3 slim and worked like a charm thank you thank you :D I just hope this is a permanent solution instead of temporary
this is the VIDEO that ive been waiting for thank you lucascdamazio :) because when i play my ps3 it keeps on shutting down atomatically :( well thank you very much but i dont have a t8h screw driver i might borrow 1 thank you for the video!! :) god bless!!
Don't forget to remove the sticker under the PS3 to find the %/$/?@!! hidden screw. (maybe not on all models but I had one, when removed it revealed the text " VOID VOID VOID VOID..." I shouldn't have skipped that part on the video... I applied this method yesterday, played 3-4 games (30 mins to 1h) and experienced no crash since. (couldn't play more than 15 mins without a crash before it) Thank you Lucas!
I have a 250GB and it does have the to screws. Seems like our mate on the Video knows that the PSU's/Power supply units are the same in all the Slims (to my knowledge with googles help). I am ordering one without the screws of Ebay and going to try it. Its only £15.
I was having the same problem and I did fix it yesterday following your tutorial!!!! Thanks a lot man!!! But I would like to know what exactly happened? before was working OK and then it started turning off automatically. Does someone has the exact explanation of what happened and what are we exactly doing by moving does things in the power supply?
In most videos I've seen they turn them "10 degrees to the RIGHT". Maybe try that? I'm having this issue too. My HDD got wiped out and I can't even access the recovery menu anymore. Will try this fix and post results.
@ozamalloa You're adjusting the value of the electric power that feeds the mainboard and reducing a little bit the mainboard's protection for overcurrent.
my PS3 has no blue lines on the white screws and mine is the APS-250 :( but at the top right of the APS-250 there is a small fuse and it came off... is that the problem to my PS3 problem?
Thanks for the great video, Lucas! I have a CECH-2001A slim, which is the first slim to come out. I was hoping you could answer a few questions: (1) Is rotating the screws just a temporary fix? (2) Can rotating the capacitors damage my system/is it dangerous? (3) If it's temporary, I think I'll just replace the power supply entirely. Should I get EADP-220B or APS-250? The EADP sounds better (newer?) (4) Will the EADP-220B fit on my system? Thanks in advance!
This didn't work for me - switched power supply to the one recommended but it still has same overheat message particularly on graphic intense games so I suspect it is the GPU?CPU? overheating!
That's the EXACT model I have 220BB.It's the 2009 Holiday slim model and has no power.I took my PS3 apart to keep it from getting dusty to clean it so it won't break and done it plenty of times only thing is this time I opened my CPU and I have NO power to my PS3 now period. This sucks.Haven't played GTA:V since Feb and when I took my PS3 apart it I forgot to take GTA:V out so now GTA:V is stuck in my PS3.I missed out on the double XP/Money,Hippie,High life, and 4th of July weekend so far.Now I have to wait until GTA:V comes out on the PS4 this Fall unless someone came tell me if it is my CPU and if I just need a another power supply and my PS3 will work again.
hm mine didnt seem to fix it, i turned the plastic screws a little to the left, and no change, tried it with them pretty much full left (til they couldnt move) and no change, should i just get a new PSU?
know how you feel my ps3 slim just packed in, 1 month after the warranty ran out am sure sony know what there doing, opened it up and there was hardly any heatsync on the cpu now am using my old 80 gb till i can get the slim reballed
i have the same issue on my fat PS3 after some time it shutdown by it self and disconnect from the Power i had to disconnect it from the power source and connect it again is this the same issue

Worked perfect!! Had to go back and adjust the screws slightly but it worked after a little trial and error :-) Thanks a million!!!!!!
I tried this method and its working like new. Used to I could play a movie or game for 10 minutes then it shut down. I tried this in a friend PS3 slim and it has been working great, it doesn't turn off, thanks for the video, was really easy to do.
I know the values you need, its 3.3 for PFC +B and 80 for OCP. I used the Fluke 115 multi-meter to make these measurements in Ohms
where exactly do you attach the multimeter sticks on the ps3 to make the calibration??
I know this comment is 7 years ago but I hope you can reply. Where specifically did you attached the probes to measure the ohms?
Thanks for your video instructions, they worked perfectly for me. Sony Australia wanted $250 (US$270) for this simple fix!
Just done it with an aps-306 power supply on a 160gb slim and confirm it works. Excellent, easy to follow vid thanks
Those screws you are turning are not capacitors. They are potentiometers used to adjust the resistance, thus changing the voltage properties.

@shika15cals Correct. It reduces the electrical resistance, allowing a bigger current to feed the mainboard...
By the gods! This actually works! I was about to send it in for a fix and I was already looking for a new ps3 in case it wasn't fixed. Thank you so much!!!
Worked like a charm, thanks! Now I can play Journey!
(also, the industrial design of the ps3 is amazing!)

Definitely works! I figured what the hell I've got no warranty, and don't want to take it in. Thanks Lucas for posting this!
I did this some minutes ago and managed to fix the PS3. Thanks Lucas for such a valuable information. Lets see how much time it will last ;)

I have tried this solution, it has been 2 days and my ps3 works great. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!
I had APS-250 and I can confirm my problem was fixed with these adjustments.
Thank you very much! After 1,5 year I finally can play again.

Excellent took 15 mins to fix and so far so good.!!!!
I have a power supply without the screws and am having this problem, should i just replace the power supply?
Thank you lucas, a friend showed me this page and I did it and I just played with my ps3 slim and worked like a charm

I adjusted the two trimmer potentiometers more than needed. Now I don´t know the original position.
What should I do?
@ozamalloa You're adjusting the value of the electric power that feeds the mainboard and reducing a little bit the mainboard's protection for overcurrent.
@PuchItAsshole
Yes,you must replace the big capacitor. Some practice in soldering is needed.
Thank you so much for this video! This was my exact problem and I was amazed that the fix was so simple.
The 2 that youre supposed to turn a couple degrees counter clockwise.
Thanks
THANK YOU SO MUCH THOUGHT I WAS SCREWED IN THE A. THIS WAS REALLY GREAT THANKS FOR YOUR TIME IN POSTING THIS VIDEO.
I just did this to my PS3 and it is working great. Thank you very much
Hey have you found a fix to that? Mine does that to but with out the 3 ti ti ti
saved my ps3.. good job lucas.. i wonder how you guys find out such tweaks..
I buy a power supply and i still have the same problems as before, with the new power supply installed the PS3 turns on and then back off, Plz help
what happens if you turn the white screws a little too far? cuz it still won't work.
my power supply dont have 2 white screws
yeah mate. It still works perfectly fine for me. I was very sceptical towards this at the beginning but my ps3 is still running for hours :D
Yeah so I have the model that you can't turn so what do I do from here?
i have the two screws but one up and one down with no blue lines any idea how to fix it ? my ps3 is a 320 gb model
my PS3 has no blue lines on the white screws and mine is the APS-250 :( but at the top right of the APS-250 there is a small fuse and it came off... is that the problem to my PS3 problem?
@AdamBsInfo Try turning the 2 trimpots a little bit more... If it didn't help, you could try exchanging the PSU... See ya!
Thanks for the great video, Lucas! I have a CECH-2001A slim, which is the first slim to come out. I was hoping you could answer a few questions:
(1) Is rotating the screws just a temporary fix?
(2) Can rotating the capacitors damage my system/is it dangerous?
(3) If it's temporary, I think I'll just replace the power supply entirely. Should I get EADP-220B or APS-250? The EADP sounds better (newer?)
(4) Will the EADP-220B fit on my system?
Thanks in advance!
what can i do if the plastic safety things over the screws dont come off properly?
This didn't work for me - switched power supply to the one recommended but it still has same overheat message particularly on graphic intense games so I suspect it is the GPU?CPU? overheating!
Thank you Sir! So far ten minutes and Running!! It appears that its fixed.
My power supply is EADP-220BB and look exactly like the one on top (6:22). It doesn't have a potentiometer (the one that you adjusted at 9:05).
While fixing this problem change the thermal paste to prevent the ylod!! The best thermal paste is the artic silver 5!!!
My PS3 does the same thing except when it shuts down, it starts blinking a red light instead of no light at all. Is it the same problem?
@FrankFndez
Hi! I'm happy that you could fix your PS3 Slim! Enjoy it!
hm mine didnt seem to fix it, i turned the plastic screws a little to the left, and no change, tried it with them pretty much full left (til they couldnt move) and no change, should i just get a new PSU?
know how you feel my ps3 slim just packed in, 1 month after the warranty ran out am sure sony know what there doing, opened it up and there was hardly any heatsync on the cpu now am using my old 80 gb till i can get the slim reballed
Thanks man, this worked for my PS3 Slim 120Gb :)
Cheers
This simple trick worked for me!!! ( FW 4.30 PS3 Slim CECH-2004A )
Just for your information.
In fact I did not change the PFC trimpot, and it is working.
just did this awhile ago and it really works, no more shutdown but i need to stress test it more. ^_^
i have the same issue on my fat PS3 after some time it shutdown by it self and disconnect from the Power i had to disconnect it from the power source and connect it again is this the same issue
Lucas, Obrigado. Funcionou pefeitamente.

Hi. I have the same problem but my powet supply is EADP-200DP and there are no screws:-/ Have any idea how to fix it ?
My PS3 Slim now has the YLOD. It was reasonably ventilated and wasn't played for more than a few hours a week maximum on average. It is nearly 2 years old.
Who here has had success using the method shown in the video? How long has the console lasted for you since the fix? Do you think this method might harm the console (e.g. over the long run)?
Also, would you recommend using this method over the soldering method mentioned in other videos, which doesn't seem to last too long as a fix?
Thanks.
Oh man, thanks so much for this video. My ps3 seems to be going good now.
How does turning the switch a little to the left clockwise help solve the problem?? So Ps auto shut down is caused because of the misalignment, doesnt make sense?
@89RChris Ok man! I'm happy for being able to help you! See ya!
@ybxa Ok, man! Happy for being able to help you! See ya!
So, if you have the model that has no screws, you can´t fix it?
It actually worked ! Thank you so much man ! :D
Did this the other day, so far so good..Thanks...
Hi,
Can you please help me? My PS3 Slim 160gb won't start up. When I switch it on, the internal FAN will SPIN VERY FAST, and then it switches off the very next moment. This is happening everytime I am trying to turn it on.
Please help!
still couldn't beieve it but somehow it actually work!! thx mate!!
Cant get the stupid security torx screws out becuase they have pins in center. Bought a ps3 slim off craigslist and it turns itself off completely random. Sometimes i can play for 5 hours sometimes it shuts off after 5 mins :(
Lucas, muito obrigado mesmo. Agora nao desliga! eu já estava achando que estava tudo fodido- Hey everybody, if your PS3 slim shuts down after some time of use and does not want to turn on again unless you re-plug the power cord then this guy shows you the proven solution.
hey man im reading this and im stuck, how do you release the plastic locks on the psu cover
@TeamRawrGaasm Hi! There is no diferent noise or Ylod (light alarm). It's like if you had unplugged the power cord. See ya!
I've changed my PSU twice, and the fan, but I still get this fault. Any ideas?
gracias lucas ,, buenisimo el videotutorial ,, trabajas para sony ?? jaja gracias desde panama eres lo maximo,,aaaaaaaa a mi se me arreglo la ps3 gracias a ti
you may have turned the screws the wrong way. I did that the first time too.
I made the tutorial 7 moths ago and it worked fine until today. My Ps3 slim 120 gb turns off again!!! Some advice Lucas, please!!
Lucas thank you so much! ihave a same shutting down automatically prooblem with my PS3 Slim 120GB CECH-2004A. and i gona do it like you showing on your video, hope for good! god bless you!
Thanks a lot for that - How to ... - Video. It worked perfectly fine for me. Thanks a lot.
Bro just fixed my ps3 thanks to you 🙏🏽
