    Overcurrent protection devices are used to protect conductors
    from excessive current flow. These protective devices are
    designed to keep the flow of current in a circuit at a safe level to
    prevent the circuit conductors from overheating.

    Brilliant, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!!! Worked a treat. My PS3 Slim kept shutting down completely after only being switched on 3 or 4 minutes, with no lights on whatsoever, but with these slight tweaks to the two trimpots it works like new again, even after hours of use. You are a genius!!!

    Capacitive Power Factor correction (PFC) is applied to electric circuits as a means of minimising the inductive component of the current and thereby reducing the losses in the supply.
    The introduction of Power Factor Correction capacitors is a widely recognised method of reducing an electrical load, thus minimising wasted energy and hence improving the efficiency of a plant and reducing the electricity bill.
    most supply companies are happy with a PF of 0.95 to 0.98

    My ps3 slim 120 gb had the same problem. I´ve done what you says in your video and for the moment it works! Thak you from Mallorca (Spain).
    Great tutorial, only i missed the part how to open de the PSU´s plastic cover was more detailled, the rest of the video tutorial is excellent! Congratulations!

    I tried this method and its working like new. Used to I could play a movie or game for 10 minutes then it shut down. I tried this method and turned on Call Of Duty Black Ops, played campaign for an hour, still working, paused it and went to town for groceries and was gone for an hour or so. Got home and it was still on and on the pause menu. No signs of heating up and sounded normal. Proceeded to play for another and still worked. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!!

    really works. the lineup marks on the screws are not in the same spot on all ps3s, mine were not int the same spot as yours, and i just turned them 10 degrees counter clockwise and it worked like magic. Thank you soooo much

    I know the values you need, its 3.3 for PFC +B and 80 for OCP. I used the Fluke 115 multi-meter to make these measurements in Ohms

    • @chewyalba9824
      @chewyalba9824 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      where exactly do you attach the multimeter sticks on the ps3 to make the calibration??

    Those screws you are turning are not capacitors. They are potentiometers used to adjust the resistance, thus changing the voltage properties.

  • @lucascdamazio

    @k0nr This problem is not YLOD, there is no Yellow light or sound alarm, it's like if you had the power cable unplugged. This fix is just a adjustment of the trimpots. Mine is functioning until now, almost 2 years ago since I made this fix. Just do this if you have no more Warranty and can't exchange your PS3. See ya!

  • @usky73

    Thanks a lot for you video.
    In fact the most difficult thing is to find the torx 8, after that with your explanation it is so easy. Just be carefull to power supply snap, they are fragile.

    my man! you deserve a reward!!!
    that did the trick for me :)
    i guess they didn't test the protection circuity in hotter countries.
    sony is not what it used to be.
    20 years ago somebody would get fired for this.

    THANK YOU!! This video saved me MONEY! No one was getting it when I kept telling them my problem, they kept saying it was over heating but it wasn't! And this Video saved my PS3 (however if you are still under warranty, USE IT! I wasn't but this fix worked for me!)

  • @intelligentguy2
    @intelligentguy2 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks for the quick response. If you are short on cash and can't afford to get a new power supply this fix will work for a few months maybe even a year. Mine lasted for 7 months! But I would suggest getting a new power supply as soon as you can everyone. Thanks again.

  • @lucascdamazio

    @shika15cals Correct. It reduces the electrical resistance, allowing a bigger current to feed the mainboard...

    This fix has worked for me and my ps3 slim still works to this day.....just follow the instructions carefully and you shouldnt have a problem. I dont speak spanish either or portugese but i was still able to follow it. Get your tools ready first then go on with the video and follow step by step. I hope this help everyone also. One thing i did also is i put my ps3 on a fan stand so it helps the console to stay cool!

    Great video helped me to fix my PS3 have been running already 4h straight without problems. Notice to everyone this fix will probably work 100% sure if you really have this problem with your first-generation PS3 slim that have AP-250 PSU unit inside it. If your PS3 is having YLOD or any other problem this definitely WON'T fix that problem.

    Hey! You are the man! Heres my experience. Ps3 slim purchased of craigslist CHEAP! Would boot dashboard. When you put a game or blue ray dvd in it would load for a few seconds then just SHUT OFF. No YLOD just shut off. My ps3 model is cech. The power supply was aps-270. My advice or what I would add to this for your own good, if there are no marks like the blue ones showed, make marks with a sharpie marker so you know where to turn it back incase you have issues. THANK YOU SO MUCH!

  • @lucascdamazio
    @lucascdamazio  14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @Sup3rGeo There is no freezing screen, it just turn off, shut down... There is no energy powering the PS3... You need to take off the power cable and then conect it again, and then be able to use it... See ya!

    Thanks this actually worked. I thought that my system was over heating, cleaned it out removing all the dust and lint, but the prob still was there, after looking at this and following the instructions the system is now A.O.K. strange that a company large as sony would not know about this defect

    Don't forget to remove the sticker under the PS3 to find the %/$/?@!! hidden screw. (maybe not on all models but I had one, when removed it revealed the text " VOID VOID VOID VOID..." I shouldn't have skipped that part on the video...
    I applied this method yesterday, played 3-4 games (30 mins to 1h) and experienced no crash since. (couldn't play more than 15 mins without a crash before it)
    Thank you Lucas!

    I have a 250GB and it does have the to screws. Seems like our mate on the Video knows that the PSU's/Power supply units are the same in all the Slims (to my knowledge with googles help). I am ordering one without the screws of Ebay and going to try it. Its only £15.

    In most videos I've seen they turn them "10 degrees to the RIGHT". Maybe try that? I'm having this issue too. My HDD got wiped out and I can't even access the recovery menu anymore. Will try this fix and post results.

    What should I do?

  • @lucascdamazio
    @lucascdamazio  14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @ozamalloa You're adjusting the value of the electric power that feeds the mainboard and reducing a little bit the mainboard's protection for overcurrent.

    Thanks for the great video, Lucas! I have a CECH-2001A slim, which is the first slim to come out. I was hoping you could answer a few questions:
    (1) Is rotating the screws just a temporary fix?
    (2) Can rotating the capacitors damage my system/is it dangerous?
    (3) If it's temporary, I think I'll just replace the power supply entirely. Should I get EADP-220B or APS-250? The EADP sounds better (newer?)
    (4) Will the EADP-220B fit on my system?
    Thanks in advance!

      That's the EXACT model I have 220BB.It's the 2009 Holiday slim model and has no power.I took my PS3 apart to keep it from getting dusty to clean it so it won't break and done it plenty of times only thing is this time I opened my CPU and I have NO power to my PS3 now period.This sucks.Haven't played GTA:V since Feb and when I took my PS3 apart it I forgot to take GTA:V out so now GTA:V is stuck in my PS3.I missed out on the double XP/Money,Hippie,High life, and 4th of July weekend so far.Now I have to wait until GTA:V comes out on the PS4 this Fall unless someone came tell me if it is my CPU and if I just need a another power supply and my PS3 will work again.

    My PS3 Slim now has the YLOD. It was reasonably ventilated and wasn't played for more than a few hours a week maximum on average. It is nearly 2 years old.
    Who here has had success using the method shown in the video? How long has the console lasted for you since the fix? Do you think this method might harm the console (e.g. over the long run)?
    Also, would you recommend using this method over the soldering method mentioned in other videos, which doesn't seem to last too long as a fix?
    Thanks.
