Josh is correct. Willie Mays and Jackie Robinson should be higher. Many reasons. Imagine focusing during that chaos.

The 52’ Topps Mantle has always been the ‘Mona Lisa’ of the card hobby for 30+ years. I’ve been collecting since early-80’s and that card was always my grail. From Mr Mint (look it up), to Beckett and SCD magazine covers simply THE CARD of the hobby. Also willing to bet the Pop Report could be cut in half due to the number of re-certs and cross-overs. Love the show and content!

I think the pop of the ‘52 should be compared against the total rookie cards of modern players if you want to compare pop counts. For example, there are 8,588 2003 Topps Chrome base Lebron cards.

Mantle was torchbearer of the most famous franchise in the largest media market and won multiple times on the greatest stage as more homes were buying color TVs. Then there's the hype of the 61 home run race and mantle of greatest switch hitter of all time.

As a collector that has been in the hobby for 40 years, unless you’re an old fart like me, you simply cannot comprehend the sheer importance of that card. It’s history, nostalgia, and that iconic nature of a card of the player that everyone chased back then. Nobody cared about basketball cards until the late 80’s.

I have this Mantle discussion about 2/month in our shop. And a very similar discussions arise re: Mike Trout.

Maybe it was a different way of saying cards over money, I agree

I collect Mantle but #joshisright. I wish his cards weren’t so expensive. Also want to add that the advanced analytics suggest Mantle was the best player of his generation. And also Larry Bird (and Magic) IS undervalued 😎. Great episode guys 👊

Good discussion but Mantle was THE card in the 70s and 80 and 90s. I suppose if you weren’t collecting you wouldn’t know and question it. With all the new collectors (including these guys who have been around since like 2016) you wouldn’t know the mantle phenomenon and understand it. Lastly, collectibility is not always who the best players are as investors like these guys are they should understand that.

Aaron Rodgers looked slow comment is a lazy take by Simmons. How bout the line missed a block leaving defender free.

Love you guys, but it's obvious to any hard core baseball fan that yall don't know baseball. And that's ok, it's interesting to hear non baseball peoples takes on baseball. Re: Mantle, Tony Gwynn.

I think LeBron should be ranked probably somewhere between 8-12 all-time just like Barry Bonds. In 11 healthy seasons in Cleveland, he won one championship, lost four finals, and got swept twice while going 7-19 overall 😬
Let's not forget we can't ignore his PED'S and steroids accusations that are always surrounding him 😬

@usmntsoccercards448 Name Dwight Howard's best teammates when he beat LeBron 😬
LeBron had a good team with good pieces in his first stint in Cleveland, just like everyone else in that era of Basketball 😬 usually you don't quit and go and join up with Olympic teammates and fellow top 5 draft picks from his 2003 draft😬
Why all the excuses for this Players failures🤔 That finals series with the Spurs in that it was a close series he choked and played poorly, go look at his statistics, Because we know LeBron fans live off of them 🤣
