My 8 month old daughter passed on the 5th of March this year from a heart defect. This song perfectly expresses all that I'm feeling. There's never enough time for the ones that you love.
Kevin, I am so very sorry at the passing of your 8 month old daughter. That must have been crushing. Life just starting...so damn unfair. My heart is heavy reading about her here. I bet the song resonates for you indeed. I know you will always hurt and miss her. I do hope the heaviness of heartbreak is a little lighter though. I wish you well.

I'm reading this on March 5th, 2021, exactly a year ago of your daughter's passing. It was about exactly a year ago today when my 5 month old grandson receive a new heart valve to keep him alive. My sympathies for your loss on this anniversary.
How amazing that at 73 years of age, against such incredible life-experience odds, that he has outlived his two younger brother's, Dennis and Carl (may they both rest in peace), and still composes inspiring masterpieces. What a true testament to the enduring musical passion that he has bestowed on us! How fortunate are we all to continue enjoying and relishing every note, lyric, and meaning behind all of his songs! He absolutely is "meant for these times"!
The great Brian Wilson, he is the Mozart of our century, we all must realise how fortunate we are to have him and his music in our life
Just lost my wife after over 40 years. This made me cry for the first time since she passed.
I lost my wife in April and celebrated our 40th anniversary in October without her for the first time. I listen to this song and others on the No Pier Pressure album every night in bed

My husband just passed away and he use to sing this around the house to me all the time he was such a big fan of brian wilson. Thank you for giving me something to listen to for one of his memories. I play for him each and every day I visit the cemetery
I heard this song, and burst into to tears. It's such an emotional song, coming from a man who's been through so much. Brian Wilson's music is simply the best of our time.

God I love him so much it hurts. This song makes me cry every time I hear it. Listened to his music every day since I was 5. I wore out his first solo album after having listened to it 3 times a day every day from beginning to end. You're the closest thing to family I ever had. Thanks for everything!
I want to end this Friday with a heady but hopeful note. I heard a song today that struck a deep chord and stayed with me all day. I listen deeply to music, always trying to find something unexpected (The Fall) or moving (Beach Boys) or funny (Half Man Half Biscuit). I'm not a causal music fan. With that said, this incredibly sad, sad, sad song is also one of the most beautiful I've ever heard. We all interpret music in our own ways. We take what we like, what we need from songs. And we own them. Artists just make the music. But it belongs to the listener. This song took me back 5 years. To the death of my father. It's a goodbye message with an end chorus that floored me. And it made me cry and smile at the same time (on my way to work this morning). Any artist that can do that is a master of the craft in its purest form. My friends, meet Brian Wilson if you haven't already (for fullest effect, put on headphones).

An emotionally powerful, heart wrenching masterpiece. Brian Wilson wrote the soundtrack to my youth and to that of so many others. This is a fitting coda to his album. There were times when no one believed that he would be the sole surviving Wilson brother. I hope he will continue writing beautiful music for many years to come. Brian, thanks. Really, thanks.

I'm happily married but my sons do remember standing on my toes while we danced to Beach Boy music in our HUGE old fashioned kitchen! Great memories!!

I agree. Especially touching when he says, "I wish that I could give you so much more." I'd like to think it means he looked after them, since their father never did. Brian was at heart a solo artist like an Elton John or a Stevie Wonder, but he made it a band so his brothers could be part of it and have careers and a good living. But he wishes he could have given them better guidance away from alcohol which got Dennis and cigarettes which got Carl.
You are correct on this. Dennis was my friend and always will be. Carl couldn't have been more decent. Brian loves them. Pure and simple.

This is a fantastic love song. It could also be about him and his family The beach boys and how they are getting older now. He wishes he could sing forever.
What if this is indeed the last song Brian Wilson ever comes out with? Maybe that's why he called it "The Last Song", as a final goodbye to all of his fans that have stuck with him and appreciated his music despite all he's gone through. Do I hope he keeps making music? Of course, but if he doesn't, then this is a perfect way to end his career.

Such a beautiful song. The most beautiful song I have ever heard. I am not brought to tears too easily, and this song brought me to tears. If this was the only song Brian ever gave us, it alone is great gift to the world. I love his music, and wish they had captured more videos of Brian putting his music together. It is so amazing to see him put it all together, and I truly believe it comes from the depths of his soul. I believe that Brians musical talent is a gift from God...and a gift to all of his listeners as well.

I have to say, the music of No Pier Pressure is wholly better than anything he’s done prior. He has totally grown as a musician composer arranger and producer, far above all expectations from both critics and fans. And it shows in his music that he has moved on from the past and is now accepting of himself and of the gift that God has given him. That being said, I love his music in this album, it’s his best one to date, and I hope for more like this from him as he raises the bar for even better arrangements in the future. God Save Brian Wilson!

Even without the rest of The Beach Boys -- Brian Wilson is up there with The Beatles -- all by himself. This is great and he did this one in 2015. Listen to those strings...the piano...the arrangement and voices. Incredible. If there is to be no more Beach Boys -- I hope someday soon Brian can team -- even for one song -- with Ray Davies and Paul McCartney.
