What a stunning beauty! Thank you for the tips! Hanging Strawberry Thief - a little disconcerting to learn this paper is so thin

I’m about to attempt hanging my first wallpaper… and I fell in love with a Morris and Co pattern which I’m learning can be difficult to hang up. Thank you for these helpful tips. I hope it goes well (hope for the best, expect the worst 😅)

I've hung this loads of times. I'm a decorator of 46 years. With pattern loss you may find it better to cut the odd strips off one roll and even off another for less waste. With the soaking time of this paper, I'd recommend scissors for it. As for ready mixed paste. I've always found it to be too thick. I thin it slightly and use a half mix to re paste the seams. But beware of the seams. You can rub the finish off the paper.

Thanks Larry, good tips. The odd/even method is great if you are methodical :-).

I have just hung 2 rolls of Pure Lodden William Morris wallpaper today, It was so hard to hang washout ripping, It looks amazing but would never pay all that money again as I have paid a third of the price for wall paper that has been much easier to hang,

When I was buying it 35 years ago it was printed on cartridge paper , now at £100 a roll it’s printed on the cheapest possible material . Look at the cost of 1000 gauge lining paper and wonder why Sandersons gouge the customer ! As it’s out of copyright about time a new company set up in competition . Another problem with the cheap paper is that instead of pasting 3 and then hanging them with cartridge paper , the cheap modern paper is past , wait 2 minutes and hang them onto the next so it takes longer to paper a room . Extremely difficult paper to hang, once it’s pasted it has the strength of wet toilet paper and when smoothing down the edges are very easily damaged, scuffing of the pattern. Cutting around sockets and switches is a nightmare, even a new blade will tear rather than cut pasted paper. You need to make sure you position and smooth down very carefully as attempting to slide even a fraction of an inch with rip the paper, and lifting to reposition can often separate the underside from the printed top.
For all that, though, once it’s up it looks bloody gorgeous!

hi thanks for that,,really informative just one question,,morris and co recommend sanderson ready mixed paste,as I only have one roll to hang this would not really be cost effective ,in your opinion should I follow their advice or go for a less expensive/wasteful option ?

Hello, I personally would not use a ready mix paste on any morris and co paper. I tend to use 1 packet of Solvite with 5l of water for most papers and for the heavier slightly raised papers use slightly less water per packet - around 4l. You will still be able to move the paper about on the wall without tear.

@@iandono1963 You can use Solvite. But as @nofeaturewalls says, mix it thickly.
