why is it so beautiful never wouldve guessed that vector based drawing looks so much better than just drawing in lines ( like an inkjet/laser printer )
i found a working HP 7475A plotter in the trash with some old pens, but the 6-pen carousel was missing... i'll eventually clean it and check out if i can cut vinyl with a Roland cutter
Fantastic, could watch them all day. They were in use in my first company for CAD in the mid 90's, then replaced soon after by a large inkjet plotter, Probably in a landfill somewhere now - shame, but at the time it is just old tech - to be trashed.
This would have made the ideal platform for a 403nm laser -> PCB plotter. Just send it HPGL files instead of G-Code. Pen-up command can operate a mech shutter or laser on/off. If I ever find one like this - that's what its going to be used for.
I was under the impression that the page shown was a DIN standard plot for testing pen plotters, but Google gave me nothing for searches like 'din standard pen plotter test page'. Anybody know about it?
What a beaut. The noise definitely adds to its character.

Plotters are really cool. My father had a flatbed Roland just like that, I loved watching it go. Paid a lot more than $100 for it at the time too :-)

Thx for the demo buddy 👀
I WANT IT EVEN THOUGH I WOULDN'T KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH IT ;O
so musical! I wonder how much quieter it would be with modern stepper driver replacements
Dr Tune why even have a pen plotter at that point
So cool. Can these work with modern computers i notice they all use serial connections?

Whoa ! People had a very advanced technology back then. 8 years ago
Its like some sort of a vector based printer...
I want this! Period!
1:05 Sounds like my 3d-printer :)
Same idea just using a felt tipped pen instead of a extruder.
doesn't have height adjustment besides lifting the pen
I wish they made more dxy plotter

I had a HUUGE ass HP pen plotter I regret trashing two years ago.
$100 for a ink ball printer? You must have been space starved

If its serial then non needed.
Yes that is a real pitty. I am looking for one

I would have bought this for $100. Does anyone still make anything like this?
Lallander
I just bought one at Goodwill for $12. Just keep a eye open and check at the dreaded eBay. Lots of fun to play with.
They were superseded by large format inkjets. We use an A0 Epson at work. At £4000 it was probably cheaper in real terms than this Roland was new.
@@MrDuncl Can somebody help me on the soft ware? I have one, it don't work on windows 10.
@@wardhobby I;m not sure which plotter / inkjet you are referring to. All I can suggest is looking at the manufacturers website.
@@MrDuncl The same like in the demo. Roland DXY-1250. Grts Ward.
