Just got a 24 M40i after weighing whether to get the 25. It seems all major car makers are going the route of large curved screens. Even though it's an older design, I still prefer the physical buttons, the ambient lighting, and overall character of the interior over the 25. Same for the exterior. The wife enjoys the Tacora red Sensatec seats, as do I. No issue with them. There's a hefty price jump for the 25's, starting now at $65k! That left us room for a nearly fully loaded 24. Also, I prefer not be an early adopter on a first year redesign. There are normally more issues to deal with. For instance, there are already exhaust valve problems with the Gen 3 B58, which the 25 X3's will have. Overall, though no vehicle is perfect, so far I'm thoroughly enjoying our first new BMW!
Congrats on your 2024 X3 M40i. Thanks for sharing your input. I didn't know about: exhaust valve problems with the Gen 3 B58 engines. I really enjoy B58 in X3 M40i for being booth smooth and powerful. As for the 2025 X3 M50 I am curious about driving dynamics to see if they really made improvements or took that car to a different direction all together.
I like everything about the X3 M40i over the M50. It’s much better looking, the interior looks a lot better, and it’s more functional with the physical buttons. It’s got a higher quality interior with less plastic, it has an opening panorama moonroof, the rear seats recline, the rear doors have comfort access, etc.
Just got my M40i yesterday. Carbon Black and Cognac. Easy decision for me as I strongly prefer 24 model. I like physical buttons and not a fan of the large curved screen.
No unfortunately BMW will not include adaptive CC as standard feature. It is part of Driving Assistance Pro package where you get Lidar scanner and it can also stay in the line
Just picked up a 24 x3 m40i last week it was hard to find one spec’d out to what I wanted but it was worth the search. The 2025 model looks like bmw is trying to get a different audience and one I don’t want to be a part of. I need my volume knob and real buttons.
Thanks for the feedback. I also found it a bit strange that BMW took a direction that many BMW fans are certainly not happy with. Their new designer has been recently appointed to work on Rolls Royce too, so expect that to change as well.
Oh yes, I recently found out about fixed glass in X3 M50. Maybe they watched my videos complaining about sunroof rattles and decided to fix this issue for the future models forever.
Heavily looking into this car as we speak (lease is ending for my m340i) -- just test drove this car and was very impressed. It was obviously not as quick as the M340i, but it felt like "home." The engine, transmission, and interior were all top notch. I prefer the buttons and the gear shifter, so this car is a no brainer.. will likely pull the trigger soon. Thanks for the review.
Thanks for stopping by. Yep X3 M40i would be a good switch to. Agree on slightly less power but it still has that aggressive nature, so it’s a really fun car.
Great topic! I own 23' X3 M40i. Looking forward to more content on this topic of M40i vs. M50. I am strongly debating keeping M40i long term vs. M50 or even vs. X6 M40i. I agree with your initial impressions of the M50. Maybe the M50 can be very dynamic for comfort and sport, similar to Macan. I completely agree on the seats for the M40i. They look good and seem comfortable at first but lack padding and like you said after long road trip you can definitely feel the lack of padding. When I test drove the M40i vs. X5 40i (non M-sport) it was a very easy decision to pick M40i. I would like to test drive X5 MSport or X6. Your comparison videos on these are very good! I've also heard new M50 b58 has cylinder deactivation which can introduce reliability issues.
Thanks for stopping by and your feedback. As far as X5 MSport - I assume you meant MSport 40i. From what I found - that car feels nearly the same as non MSport. It's tuned for comfort and after driving X3 M40i - X5 MSport feels way too comfy almost feels like driving a bus. I did like X6 40i though - that feels more dynamic and a tiny bit firmer which makes it both engaging and still comfortable to drive. As for the X3 M50 I will be making more videos as soon as it comes out. I am super curious what tuning they did to the steering and suspension.
@@100miledrive Thank you for that information on X5 40i MSport vs. Non-MSport. That is interesting that even with the MSport package, it is still very similar! MSport also racks up the cost a good bit too and would seem not worth it then. I will likely avoid X5 , as unfortunately M60i is out of my price range. The X6 40i is intriguing though. Some other odd things on the M50 is the sunroof does not open, and now I've seen a video with the back windows rolled down and they don't go all the way down! The M40i with sunroof open and windows down is another fun little thing it looks good and does well.
@@wave640 Let's see how X3 M50 plays out, but yeah I saw that they didn't have sunroof any longer which is really weird. Also I can't tell from the videos but many are reporting it has lots of plastics in the interior, basically they went for cheaper materials. I am mostly curious what they did with chassis/steering tuning and if they really have better engineering or they completely changed the character of new X3 M50.
Do you have a recommendation on price? I’m asking because with the 2025 coming out and I like to know where will the price go. The current MSRP is $67k. If you went to the dealer what number would you suggest? Im looking to buy before the 2025. Thank you for all the videos you posted.
Hi there. So I got 10% off MSRP on my car which was around $66K MSRP. I did initial negotiations online with multiple dealers and only few were willing to bring prices down. I am not sure if they are trying to move them quickly or if they are getting top dollar with 2025 around the corner. Certainly you should try to negotiate with few dealers that are in like 100-200 miles range.
My x3 m40i just arrived at the dealer's ready for preparation, and I've been debating whether to cancel and get the m50. I will go with the m40i after this video.
Hey congrats on your new car. This is just my opinion on my X3 M40i and I will have more info once I get a chance to review X3 M50. I personally love what X3 M40i has to offer and I think it’s a great machine
Hey I’m looking to buy, were you able to get below MSRP? I’m trying to figure out what’s a reasonable price to pay since the 2025 coming out. Thanks and congrats on your purchase.
@@jasonsm123 Weird, I thought I replied to this. Fully loaded in the UK the m40i costs £75k, and I got it discounted to £64k. There are some deal websites that organise aggressive discounts with manufacturers and they can get a fully loaded new X3 m50 for about £68k, but the finance rates are much higher.
50 has more horsepower and is lower to the ground. It's going to drive better. Also I don't like the rear end of the m40i that much - pretty feminine. Don't get me wrong - overall I think new one is a downgrade in many ways. But you still get all the reasons you really buy the X3. Fast, fun to drive on the road, sounds good, and can hold more stuff then a car.
thanks for the comment. Let's see how X3 M50 comes out in terms of driving dynamics, they certainly did some more work on the chassis. As far as the looks while it is subjective we can clearly see they are changing their direction. Maybe black on black with shadow line package will look good.
@@100miledrive I think it will be better with the lower ground clearance and the revised chassis and I think steering too. But yeah too bad about the looks. It's going to be hard sell to my girl. :P Why do they keep having to make the grill bigger?! Bleh. I am not sure what the competition is if you want something more sports car and less lux mobile. There is the Stelvio, F-Pace and Porsche I guess. But all are less reliable (IMHO) and quite pricy.
Thanks for sharing. I do want to see also in M50 how they re-tuned steering and suspension. Did they do smth better to have more comfort and keep same aggressive driving dynamics or did they change BMW's DNA towards Comfort and less Sport.
Thanks for sharing. I didn't have a chance to find X3 with leather ones but I can't image firmer seats than Sensatec. I mean if you are OK with firmer seats then this will work fine with you. Another thing I noted in X3 30i is that those base Sensatec seats were more comfy than in my car, so it is possible that my car just has firmer seats or smth.
I have a '23 X3 30i and I was planning on upgrading to a '25 but now that I see the '25 I don't care for it AT ALL. I'd get a ' 24 now if I could but nobody has the exact color I want (Bklyn Grey - same as I have now) with all the options I have now & want again (M styling, blackout, M sport brakes, convenience pkg, premium pkg, etc, etc) and it's too late to order one.
Yeah 25 is way different. I am not sold on the looks but will reserve my comments until I get the car for review. Yeah now might be a bit late to get a new one, you can widen your search to like 300 miles. Maybe even get in another state, some folks do that
It's right - truly last chance. I was able to end my previous lease and was able to pick up a fully blacked out M40i with mocha interiors. the last few are selling like hot cakes. people are putting deposits in the time it takes to ponder. I not only not like the 2025 one, but some how really dislike the exterior and further more the interiors. I wish BMW stuck to its DNA and not follow the race to make it into something it is not.
thanks for the feedback. Yes it's quite a disappointment that they hired a new designer and agreed to everything he is proposing which includes this very drastic change that doesn't make BMW like you said: "What it is not".
@5:22 dye staining on the seats is already clearly visible. the sensatec picks up the dye from clothing easily, especially jeans. god help you if you have a white interior.
Oh yes it is there from jeans mostly. I will try to remove it, got some cleaner for the seats. As for the white interior I always want to ask Tesla folks with that white interior: how does that look like after 2 years.
Numbers used to mean something years ago when they matched the engine’s displacement. Nowadays, they don’t correlate with anything. Manufacturers have been inflating the numbers behind the model name for a long time now because the general perception is the bigger the number, the better the car is. In other words, consumers feel better when they upgrade from the 40 to 50. Mercedes used to have S500. The new one is called S580. Lexus used to have GX460. The new one is called GX550. TL;DR Big number good. Small number bad. That’s why.
Yep agree. It used to be straight forward to understand the engine size by the number as you mentioned but it all really changed. Same with Infiniti. Used to be G35, G37 for 3.5 or 3.7l but now it's Q50 which doesn't give any clue. Thanks for sharing.
X3 M50 should be faster at the top end, like in quarter mile as it has more torque, but from the initial pull it seems the same. To me it's not a significant upgrade in power. I was hoping they can push pass 400 hp like 420hp or smth because rumors have it we will not get a new gen of X3M. X3 M50 might be all we get.
Is it though? None of these have been tested yet. Just the official numbers which should be taken with a grain of salt. BMW is pretty conservative there. New one will be faster round the track - car like ground clearance. It's a glorified hot hatch - which for me is personally what I want.. I think of it as a competitor to the S5 Avant - that we don't get in the states anyway.
