As I'm a bus spotter and my favourite colour is red and you did a great job I say must have many hours and backaches doing it also loving it must be years as good 😮😊
Loving your series. I don’t know wether it’s the iconic bus or your approach that’s so addictive!! I think the iconic bus drew me in and your delivery keeps me interested and smiling. Thankyou Pete!
I'm getting very teary eyed looking at the old London buses especially the green country buses, I remember as a young boy getting the 410 or 411 bus from my home in Bletchingley, Surrey to either Redhill or Reigate. I left England in 1977 to live in Australia, I am now 70 and living in Cambodia. I hope I will get the chance to return to England and ride on a London bus one more time. Many thanks for taking me back in time 😊👍
As a LT spotter in the early 1960's I was the envy of my school spotter mates as I lived on RLH Route 230. So great to see 53 looking better than I remember them!
Thanks for the video. Love these old buses. I think my favourite is the Bristol Lodekka FLF6LX, quite simply for the magnificent noise from the Leyland O.600 or O.680 engine and the amazing whine of the semi-automatic gear-box. There is nothing like it, or as good and it was fantastic to actually catch one of these buses and ride on it. Your buses like all other older buses are just NOT boring! They are noisy and bumpy unlike modern buses and I have great and happy memories and its so good that people like yourself are preserving them. Thankyou.
Colour looks on point. Very fortunate to have that paint company dedicated to hobbyists. Thanks for the sounds of the low bridge bus. You should have worn a fake Magnum PI moustache for the Ferrari segment.
It's back looked the same from memory but I saw the front was different. Great looking car. Not too hot on the looks of the newer stuff from the stallion.
RLH sounded absolutely gorgeous. Credit to whoever did the resto. Good to see some red going on the RML at last. Just a bit of work on the spraying technique 😁.
Hi Pete. It was great to see a brief glimpse of Samuel Ledgard's RLH, I have many happy memories of these buses which I often rode on to primary school in the 1960's. I remember the commotion on the top deck when someone on the inner left seat had to have three people move to let them out. The drop down into the trough from the seating bays was also a challenge for some. Remember in those days buses were always full and the top deck was usual thick with cigarette smoke, Happy days. p.s. I use Craftmaster paints, I prefer to roll on with a 4" foam roller and lay off with a Purdey brush, good luck.
Enjoyed this video again. The RLH bit was very reminiscent... I used to take green ones to school and back. Also, RLH32 (the one in blue and white now) travelled to the Netherlands on a rally in about 1980 which I was involved in. So interesting memories. Mind you, the low bridge design was a nuisance; if you had a window seat upstairs and needed to get off when the bus was full, it meant quite some acrobatics!
Another great video, only you can decide if and when the paint work is acceptable. Everyone must remember that you are learning as you go and well done so far.
I was so excited when #21 appeared! The oldies through London was great. I grew up in Liverpool and loved seeing all the Corpy buses parked at the Pier Head.
I took my test on a 1952 Bristol Low Bridge double decker. This had the same seating arrangement as the RLH & was known as a "skittle alley" I'm old enough to remember catching one with my Dad & brothers aged 7‼️
@@jamesfrench7299 A new video appears, I get in to it and feel there’s progress being made, and then it stops and I have to wait ages before it moves again. You know, like buses.

Hey Pete - as someone that's experienced exactly the same issues as you did when painting my Triumph GT6, have a look on TH-cam for how to move the spray gun when painting - basically you need to hold the gun steady at exactly 90 degrees to the panel and then move yourself a lot more, with a little flick off / on at the end of each sweep. If you do this you'll get much more even coverage before you then cut back and polish. Also, I used 4 grades of polish and got amazing effects, even if you do have a little orange peel... Brilliant channel though - love the vids!!

Great episode Pete, loved the section on RLH53 ... and it’s run over the 171 route with 7 other RLH’s .. RLH53 looks stunning .. it’s interesting to note she spent 40 years across the pond in USA (where quite a few of her sisters ended up because their low height was ideal for the States). I found this episode extremely enjoyable entertaining and fun to watch! Educative too for people like me who don't know much about buses. Also great shots, nice filming... superb job, Peter
Great to see another clip up Pete and looks like Summer is cranking up in the UK. Painting is never an easy task and so much to learn and so much pressure to have it looking pristine! One piece of advice I would give is use longer strokes - one full stroke side to side on that panel rather than the 2 smaller stokes. Keep up the great work. Cheers from New Zealand.
Like many others I've just discovered and binged the series. You are a unique voice, love what you are doing! So glad to see you took all the advice and started to wear a mask. BUT... that appears to be a dust mask. The paint dust is certainly bad for you but the organic vapors are much worse. You need a mask that's rated for both, with replaceable cartridge filters. I'm not always as good as I should be about PPE but this is one area I always pay attention to.

Many years ago whilst on a driving ban I decided to hand paint my land-rover series 2a so I took the body off painted the chassis and then done the body work in land-rover green then spent days flat and polishing all the panels then a drop of g3 and a mop to get a good shine so I don't even you doing a whole bus .

Honestly your channel has made watching paint dry exciting.. Seriously though its good to see this come on.. I am planning to use Craftmaster paint too so its good to see the results.
Hi Pete, another great video, but watching you fitting the Panel - was that an orb you captured.... keep up the good work it will be worth it when finished.
A couple of observations with your painting: - Your gun looks quite small, are you sure it's not a touch up gun? - the spray fan is quite narrow, could be linked to point 1. - do longer passes right across the panel without releasing the trigger. - overlap the previous pass by 1/3rd - Keep the gun perpendicular to the panel for the full pass - the distance of the gun from the panel should be about the same as from the tip of your thumb to the tip of your little finger when they are stretched out. - the dimples in the paint could be caused by what ever you are using to wipe the panel down before painting. Doesn't sound like it's fully evaporated before you paint. Use decent panel wipe. That said you are going a great job. 👍🏻
Spotted this ep was up just after I’d hit the hay and had to watch! 75+ hours of painting!? I don’t know how you keep the will. I spent this week getting old petrol garden tools up and running, but they don’t feel like adequate success next to this endeavour. I hope you get a commission from the BBC in the future out of this! Thanks, look forward to the next instalment.
When I was a Signwriter I used to have a regular customer that always painted their vans in-house, their resident mechanic who sprayed them never wore a mask, and just used to drink Milk! He's still alive and well, now aged 83!
Hi Pete, new subscriber here. I only stumbled across your fab channel earlier this week, and I’ve now binge watched the lot and am fully up to date. I amazed at your drive and determination. Thanks for making TH-cam a better place. I’m looking forward to the next one.
Another great episode pete.keep persevering and you will get the finish you want.you definatley dont want to be repeating that sanding and cutting back process on the whole bus.imagine how long that would take lol.be like painting the forth bridge.allready lookin forward to the next episode.
Glad to see you are back at it again and I’m enjoying the videos as always! I feel your pain with the paint but your project is much bigger than mine! Nice Ferrari at the start also!
Great to see the RLH stuff Pete And the typhoo tea advertising looks amazing, what a thing!!!!!!!! I bet it smells amazing inside, you just cant beat that vintage smell. Keep the posts coming Pete Martin
When spraying start at one end of the panel and finish at the other end without stopping in the middle, half relates the trigger at the end of each stroke so its only air coming out the gun, 50 % overlap on your strokes back and forth, try and practice keeping the gun at a constant distance from the panel 😉 a wee bit of practice and you'll get there 🙂
As I'm a bus spotter and my favourite colour is red and you did a great job I say must have many hours and backaches doing it also loving it must be years as good 😮😊

- the spray fan is quite narrow, could be linked to point 1.
- do longer passes right across the panel without releasing the trigger.
- overlap the previous pass by 1/3rd
- Keep the gun perpendicular to the panel for the full pass
- the distance of the gun from the panel should be about the same as from the tip of your thumb to the tip of your little finger when they are stretched out.
- the dimples in the paint could be caused by what ever you are using to wipe the panel down before painting. Doesn't sound like it's fully evaporated before you paint. Use decent panel wipe.
That said you are going a great job. 👍🏻
Excellent! Thanks for that.
😂😂😂
Spotted this ep was up just after I’d hit the hay and had to watch! 75+ hours of painting!? I don’t know how you keep the will. I spent this week getting old petrol garden tools up and running, but they don’t feel like adequate success next to this endeavour. I hope you get a commission from the BBC in the future out of this! Thanks, look forward to the next instalment.
Hahah thanks mate!
great videos ! i like the classic cars as much as the bus !
So do I!! 👌
When I was a Signwriter I used to have a regular customer that always painted their vans in-house, their resident mechanic who sprayed them never wore a mask, and just used to drink Milk! He's still alive and well, now aged 83!
Phew!! I drink a lot of milk (in my coffee…)
Hi Pete, new subscriber here. I only stumbled across your fab channel earlier this week, and I’ve now binge watched the lot and am fully up to date.
I amazed at your drive and determination.
Thanks for making TH-cam a better place. I’m looking forward to the next one.
This is super lovely! Thanks so much. I'm glad you're enjoying it.
The little one has pete looking a little tired.... cheering you on mate.

Another great episode pete.keep persevering and you will get the finish you want.you definatley dont want to be repeating that sanding and cutting back process on the whole bus.imagine how long that would take lol.be like painting the forth bridge.allready lookin forward to the next episode.
Ha, thanks for watching!
Great video Pete.
Thanks
Everyone should watch this. Brilliant as usual. Whats the next project?
Thanks Stephen!
Make sure you have a water separator in-line . If air line has ever had oil run through it you can’t use it for spray painting . That is all
Yes excellent shout, I actually realised I don't have one so I ordered a good'n. Fitting it tomorrow!
Glad to see you are back at it again and I’m enjoying the videos as always!
I feel your pain with the paint but your project is much bigger than mine!
Nice Ferrari at the start also!
Thanks for watching Tim!

Another excellent video brother 😎
All the best 😀🍻👍🏻
Thanks for watching!!
Keep it up Pete, your making headway
Thanks!
When spraying start at one end of the panel and finish at the other end without stopping in the middle, half relates the trigger at the end of each stroke so its only air coming out the gun, 50 % overlap on your strokes back and forth, try and practice keeping the gun at a constant distance from the panel 😉 a wee bit of practice and you'll get there 🙂
Thanks!
Great episode mate can’t wait for the next one
Thanks for watching
