    Thanks Cath for yet another waffle free informative video, spot on for this time of year .
    Great selection of dress patterns, especially good for me as I only like to work with woven fabrics !!!!!
    My choice for your lovely fabric would have to be the Fleetwood dress, but I'm sure that whichever one you choose will be perfect.

    I have made the Hope dress in exactly the same checked fabric, just another colour. I really like it, but of course the fabric works for many of you patterns. It is a lovely quality!

      Oh fab that’s really good to know! It is such nice fabric isn’t it, I definitely want to get it sewn up as it seems a shame for it to be just sitting in my stash!

    I do like the Style Arc Hope dress. Made a couple. One in a light viscose and one in a slightly weightier cotton. They're good! You inspired me to wear one today- very good for autumn with tights. Thanks for the video.

      That’s good to know you like the Hope dress, I’ve definitely heard good things about it and would really like to try it. Sounds perfect with tights for autumn.

    I think either the Myosotis or the Sudley would suit your fabric beautifully. With the Sudley, I think a little frill on the skirt would elevate it - just my personal opinion. 😀

      Thank you very much! I love the idea of a little frill on the Sudley, that would be so pretty,

    Hey Cath, thanks you for sharing your inspiration with us. I always love watching you videos as a little treat on the weekends :) I am so happy you found "Ready to Sew", its my favorite pattern company. They have so many really cool patterns that seem to fit my shape really well. I think from the style of the patterns they are kind in a similar style to "French Navy" which is my other favorite pattern company. Hope you will try the Jolene i have not tried this one.

      Hi there ahh that’s so nice to know my video is a little treat at the weekends! 😊
      Oh fab that’s really good to know you love Ready to Sew patterns! I need to have a good explore of all of their other patterns, I love French Navy too so sounds like they’ll be right up my street!

    You may find you'd would swim in that SA Hope.
    However, you have mad skills, and you'll make any of these look great.
    I would do the Megan Nielsen dress version in your new fabric. So cozy.

    I am just about to sew another Merchant and Mills fabric in a slightly larger check and Hinterland was what I was going to do . I am debating sleeveless as I live in North east Scotland and am already in thermal vest with lighter weight fabrics. Thought I could layer it more easily and put a cardigan or jumper on top ( also boots and tights!) Thanks for all the ideas , a lot of food for thought ❤

    • @madebycathcraft
      @madebycathcraft  ปีที่แล้ว

      The Hinterland will look so nice in a checked fabric, I’m definitely tempted by that option. Hope you enjoy sewing yours, Merchant & Mills fabrics are so lovely! Layering it up sounds like a great plan ❤️

    Hi Cath! I enjoyed this video. The dresses you mentioned are all very pretty, I can see why it’s a difficult decision.
    I agree it would be nice to branch out to a different pattern which is why I hope you decide on M8343 - I too am curious about the bodice.
    I feel the sleeveless looks best with the unique bodice, but then it wouldn’t be seasonally appropriate.
    Hmmmm… what to do 😅
    Can’t wait to see what you decide.

    • @madebycathcraft

      The M8343 looks really interesting doesn’t it! I’d definitely like to see how I get on with it. Thank you, I’m glad you enjoyed the video 😊

    It's the Hinterland for me, I think it'd look great in the check fabric!

    • @madebycathcraft
      @madebycathcraft  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you very much! I do love the Hinterland and can see that I would get a lot of wear out of a nice cosy version in this fabric!

  • @ThatRomyKate

    I think the Myosotis would look great! I’d also thought of the Lyra but you would want to size down. The ones I’ve made do come up quite big, even with the waist tie, so next time I think I’d add darts and make the button placket full length. My favourite autumn/winter make is the Bruyère shirt by Deer & Doe. I usually lengthen the skirt piece to make it more of a tunic/dress length and it looks great in a checked fabric 😊

    • @madebycathcraft
      @madebycathcraft  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you, that’s good to know about the Lyra, I wouldn’t want it to be too oversized. I’ve not made the Bruyere but it looks so pretty! That’s a really lovely idea to lengthen the skirt piece and turn it into a dress!

    I have the Jolene pattern, but haven't made it up yet. I'll look forward to seeing your version. But not in this fabric. You have so many to choose from, I think you're going to have to start by using the process of elimination. 😅 I can't wait to see which one you choose!

    • @madebycathcraft
      @madebycathcraft  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! The Jolene dress looks really pretty doesn’t it! Hopefully I can find a nice fabric for it. Thanks yes there are too many to choose from, I hope I can narrow it down 😄🤞

    I’d make the myosotis dress but lengthen the sleeve to 3/4 or full. It’s classic. I’m not a fan of the Hope dress but you look fine in anything. The Davenport looks great on you and you could play with the check, putting some on bias. Same with the Forsyth & FleetWood.😂

    • @madebycathcraft
      @madebycathcraft  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you! The myosotis is a classic isn’t it, I do love it. Yes I love the idea of playing with the check. I have too many options don’t I 😬😄😄 I hope I can narrow it down and decide!

    Great vlog, I know the Hope dress also has an extension pack now so you could adapt to have buttons down the front, if wanted.. If I remember rightly. I love that 2nd French Navy dress (Fleetwood). Or the Hope dress. Have you looked at p&m patterns Ethel dress? Also looks a nice dress.❤

    • @madebycathcraft
      @madebycathcraft  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you, that’s good to know about the Hope expansion pack! I love the Fleetwood too 😊 I haven’t hear of the Ethel dress, thanks for the suggestion, I will take a look at it! ❤️

    Great idea. Just started watching but noticed the deer and doe pattern myosotis….i had an email from them this week to say they have increased the size to a 60.I haven’t made the myosotis. I also have the hope dress but haven’t made that either. Oh my! The Davenport is one of my favourite patterns. I have two versions both similar and both midi. I love the bodice. My first I lengthened the bodice but actually when I got the skirt on it really didn’t need the length in the bodice. I wore it on Saturday to a family day and I didn’t cinch in the waist but let it hang loose . I loved it and it was much admired. Very comfortable to wear. On the Forsythe dress for me it looks as though the neck might be a little too wide for winter although perhaps it might work with a polo underneath?

    • @madebycathcraft
      @madebycathcraft  ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh fab that’s really good news on the Myosotis size range, thanks for mentioning! The Davenport is such a lovely pattern isn’t it, I love the bodice too. That’s a good point re the Forsythe dress, it does have a wider, less cosy neckline x

    Take a look at the Marila Walker Isca dress .I’ve made it five times .four times in Babycord and once in linen and they are really comfortable it also comes with a wrap dress option so give it a look ?

    • @madebycathcraft
      @madebycathcraft  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you I will take a look at it. The name of the Isca dress is familiar but I’m not sure I know what it looks like. That’s good to know it works well in a more wintery fabric. Thank you

    Thank you for making this video. Wonderful choices! I also want to make the Hope dress and just bought it. I LOVE the Sudley dress, it is my TNT and I make it a lot. I haven’t made the top, I want to try it. I have made the Myosotis several times and just don’t love it. I have altered the neckline and can’t find one version that is comfortable for me. I am also making the Hinterland now. I am taking their hinterland hacking course and learning so much. You make beautiful clothes, I am sure the fabric will speak to you but I think the Hinterland is my choice for your lovely fabric. ❤
    Currently on my table is the Cashmerette Roseclair wrap dress with lots of gathered tiers. I bought a gathering foot for my machine and can’t wait to see if it makes gathering quicker. I don’t mind gathering but looking forward to giving it a try. Do you have this foot? I don’t hear many people talk about it.

    • @madebycathcraft
      @madebycathcraft  ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s good to know you love the Sudley dress. I can see it’s one that I would really enjoy wearing, I must get on and make one!
      Ah cool I haven’t come across the Hinterland hacking course, that sounds really interesting, I’m going to look it up!
      I haven’t got a gathering foot as far as I’m aware, it sounds like a great idea though! Something else for me to look up too!
      Hope you enjoy sewing your Roseclair dress 😊

    Hi Cath! I’ve sewn up the Style Arc Hope Dress: I made the smallest size, + it’s still pretty roomy, also, I need to do a forward shoulder adjustment- it drives me crazy because it keeps riding back🥺, but that might just be me😉

    • @madebycathcraft
      @madebycathcraft  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi there ah thank you that’s good to know about the fitting of Hope dress. I know that feeling of when a dress rides back, very annoying to have to keep pulling back into place. I’ll definitely bear in mind a forward shoulder adj as that is an adjustment I do find I often need to make! Thank you!

  • @juliemulie1805
    @juliemulie1805 ปีที่แล้ว

    Using fabric from my stash usually gets me going on a project much quicker than starting with a pattern. I will get bogged down with finding just the right fabric if I start with the pattern. Having the fabric gives me restrictions and focus.

    I tried hinterland and just really didn’t like it
