1928 Ford Roadster Pick Up Is Back Together And Better Then Ever!!!

- Now that the Roadster Pickup chassis is painted, Matt and Steve can work on brake lines, and the rear radius arms. Since the torque tube was shorted for a Model A chassis, the radius arms are now too long. They require some pie cuts to change the angle and about 18" removed. After they are completed Matt and Steve work on installing the body and bed with a new reproduction wood kit. Once the body is all installed, the fresh brake system can be bleed. We are hoping to take this killer shop truck to the Wheels Of TIme car show on August 26th-28th for everyone to see as an in progress project. Hope to see you there!!

Said it before but can not say it enough....this is at the top of my favorite Iron Trap builds. To all the guys, well done
Thanks!
😀👍
It’s a terrific project! Oh those legs when you were pumping the brakes… and this a family show too!
I noticed that you were heating the steering arm that goes in the left front wheel. I thought that I should share some of my hard earned experience with you. When you are heating an object in preparation for a bend, you should always heat the side that will be under compressive forces. The way you did it, you were heating the side under stretching forces. Heating that way increases the chance for stretch cracks in the work piece. Heating the compressing side forces the molecules closer rather than pulling them further apart. You do what ever you want to do, but that is my experience and I thought that I would share it.
Agreed. I recall we had a discussion on that subject in Metal Shop class back in the day.
You are correct in theory, but I have never worried about it much and never knew anyone that did. There are so many times that you can just get the flame somewhere close. Very little concern about it because most things are overbuilt with a good safety factor. In theory we could calculate the strength required for every piece of steel. It's easy but much easier to just make it big enough with enough safety factor. Another big thing is you must always judge the criticality of the part, hot rod or a space shuttle. If you ever get some practical experience, you will understand. Thanks.
I'm loving this project. On airplanes we "up bleed" the brakes by attaching a pump oiler to the bleed fitting with a small hose & force the fluid uphill to the master cylinders. (2 masters on airplanes for differential braking) It chases the air up and out of the master and goes very quickly.
That’s a great way to do it for sure!
Is there info somewhere on that process?
I am biased toward pickups, and I probably have said this on one of your past builds, but this heap might be my favorite. You are blazing through it and it looks easy to crawl in and out of compared to others!
Thanks Tim! This a “bread and butter” hot rod so it’s going much more quickly than some of the other more involved projects
Man, I wish I had a "Steve" alongside me in the garage to help me with my decisions! What an asset to ITG!!! You guys are really rockin' this build!!!! And Mike's editing is really ace - shot sequencing and clip length is just right. It's great to watch an excellent channel get more excellenter as the days go by!
Thanks for watching!
0:39 Man, that Steve is a fast worker!
Morning Matt & Steve,
You will be taking your shop truck for a ride soon, pretty cool.....at least Steve will have something to drive!! Be safe!!
God Bless!!
Thank you matt for addressing the noise issue.
Love the truck build. Dude you are a real artiest with these cars. Its awesome to see them being saved, and brought back to life.
Thank you!
Gee! It is starting to look like a real hot rod. Nice work guys.
Man,you guys are really moving along on the shop truck. Looking good 👍
Hey Matt I love the work you're doing on the 1928 pickup truck awesome... Love how you fabricate everything it's great.... Enjoy all your videos.... I would like to buy an old pickup truck
I'm sure, Henry would approve. 👍🇳🇿
Nice job Matt and Steve Coming along nicely
I think fabrication has got to be much more challenging and rewarding than basic restoration. The sense of accomplishment when your design plans become reality must be so strong. You have a job you probably can’t wait to get to everyday. I would absolutely love to own one of the vehicles you restore or create. They would be a real treasure.
Thank you Gary we do enjoy what we do!
When Steve is putting the brakes together and you have the music playing, that should be "Johnny Cash--- One piece at a time"!! ;o)
She's just about ready, but don't forget the hollowed out hay bales in the bed stuffed with jars of Poppy's elixir. It's good fer what ails ya!
I guess I am old, my fried had this same year truck (OG), so now I get to see it in the Hot Rod form I thought it should have always been. Thank you
New 4K camera? Feels like I’m standing right in the shop watching
Same camera just have had some help filming from a local young guy taking videography in school!
Hey guys, looking good, won't be long now.....Ralph
Coming a long nicely......
New Zealand 🇳🇿
Boy Matt, you and Steve make a great team.
That allows Mike to concentrate on orginizing inventory and sales.
All 3 of you guys working together are making your business profitable.
Your lucky in that you're getting paid to do what for most people is a hobby.
It's the same thing for me.
Repairing pinball and arcade games plus pool tables and jukeboxes for most people is a hobby.
Doing it professionally as my profession and getting paid to was awesome.
In my prime you were a fool to play pinball against me for money (bets) as I proved many times with people stubborn enough to challenge my ability.
A friend once told me I had a job that was essential a hobby.
Yuppers, it kinda was.
I'm basically retired now as with a pacemaker / defibulator in my cheast I can no longer work on pinball games due to the high number of electro magnets in them.
The shop truck is gonna win some trophys for sure.
Thanks Ronnie! It’s a true blessing to do what you love for work! We’re thankful every day!
Better THAN ever.
Looking good Matt! Man you have left me behind, mines still in pieces on the frame table with the body apart and stacked In the corner. I really dig the ride height and rake!
Matt- Mojo Speed Shop and Lounge
Thanks! Time for you to get to work!
Nice job guys. It's looking really good.
Great video Matt. Great progress and great craftsmanship. Thanks for sharing and I learned so much.
Hi, Matt, Mike, Steve and Team. I always say it, but I love this project.
You guys are working fast, so sometimes you miss the obvious, why not just hinge the cut-out.
Easy for me sitting here but thought I'd just say it. Love from Reading, England.
That’s the plan for sure. Something I’ll do off camera in between videos. Will make little tabs on the door to make it close and lock 💪
one of my favorite builds you guys done but I love trucks too always great videos ty Steve
Holy shit even Jesus was helping with putting the body onto the frame!
Absolutely Gorgeous build, Guys!!!
Very cool guys 😎 I’m getting excited to see her go down the road 😂🤣 great job guys
Regarding your forklift it is not 10,000 lb capacity . More like 15 to 18,000 lb check for brass spec plate should show rt ,sc 150 or 160 180 numbers indicate capacity. Tire size says lift is of higher capacity. Am retired lift truck mechanic 33 years
Matt I love that chop saw. No smelly fiber wheels cool 😎.
Every channel I watch seems to have one now. They are passing them out like candy.
I love the way you built that truck.
Can I ask what your tire sizes are on that truck. Love the way it’s coming out.
Great looking truck !!!
🇺🇸💪 Bad Ass Old School American Muscle 💪🇺🇸
Rad little hotrod!👍👍
Love this pickup build, so simple and will be such a cool shop truck. 🇦🇺🇦🇺👍👍
Wish I could move that fast.
Looks good Matt
46 style radius rods dont need shortening.
really a cool build
Looking really cool
Great little hot rod 👍👍👍
You started with junk, but this is turning into a very nice little truck!
ThAts the goal!
Looking good
Hey Matt nice job on the pickup . Is Steve ASE certified to use the green chair? HA HA
That wasn’t authorized use. I wasn’t paying attention! Gotta put in a few years to get use of the magic green chair! Haha
I've seen master cylinders placed on the passenger side. They use the original cross bar to activate it. Not as clean, but for the poor folks it works.
A great build!
I think every boy wants a roadster pickup!😂
Hey Steve I've seen better legs on Kentucky Fried Chicken!! hahahahahahaha just kidding buddy!! You & Matt do a great job on these cars!!
Awesome old pickup project! Where do you get that roll of body to frame insulating tape?
Master cylinder is below the wheel cylinders. Gonna need residual pressure valves.
It is at the same spot/height as all stock early fords with hydraulic brakes had from the factory ..
The M/C is specific for drum brakes and has a 10psi residual valve built into it.
Awesome
'Almost Road Worthy' I think you may have stumbled upon the unofficial name for the channel. : )
Front row seat at, “Hot Rod U.”
Would putting fenders on it hurt the look.
It looks like you need to lower it a little bit , it’s a little high !! Still awesome !!
Nope sitting perfect for the style and era it’s being built to.
verry nice job
Love this truck
Love it Matt!!!
Great vid!!! 👍👍
What year of Ford has the rumble or mother in law seat ?
13:46 Who's the guy with the long hair ? I've seen him in other videos ?
Luke is a young guy helping us with the filming and also helps a little in the shop while filming when it’s all hands on deck!
It just occurred to me that you may want to try red wheels.
Matt what’s the rad headlight bar off?
Old custom built bar off an old hot rod or race car
I wish you would paint your cars Stuart Palmer Adelaide Sth Australia
We have painted cars. But not all of them all. We might put paint on this one just to keep you happy!
I love it
Is that stock ride height in the rear?
Almost. A few leaves removed in the rear
Hi Matt, Dennis here from Filer, Idaho. I have really enjoyed your channel alot. Only thing is there is alot of background noise. Like a compressor or something is running. Not sure. But it makes it awful hard to hear you. Thank you
Sorry Dennis that is called “shop noise”. 90 degree weather necessitates fans running in the shop. Not much we can do as we can afford to air condition our shop..
Isn't the rust encapsulator affected by UV rays?
Nope
Paint the grill and headlight buckets black.
As in true reality we can’t do everything in one video. It’s on the list. Give us a few..
Like it!
Question? I see you run period license plates on some of your Traditional Hot Rods. How do you have them titled? I have a 1930 Model A coupe, 1950's style, no fenders, bumpers, etc. and want to use a period 1930 Pennsylvania License plate. I've been through Penn DOT's website and can't figure it out. According to them I would have to title it as a Street Rod in it's current form but there are no provisions to add an Antique plate, only if titled as an Antique or classic. HELP!
Titled as an antique first then file for a vintage plate registration. Number on the old Plate has to be available. Your local notary should be able to walk you through the process
🤘😎
Kewl
I can’t help it, i keep getting “ and they loaded up the truck and moved from Tennessee” must be an age
☝️😃looking so, Good☝️
I can’t help it, i keep getting “ and they loaded up the truck and moved from Tennessee” must be an age thang!…
Your contact info would not work for me. I need a price on a fuel tank for a 29 4 dr sedan mod a.
Irontrapgarage@gmail.com
I have a pickup bed with fenders including tailgate, 4 wheels and rear end if anyone wants to make me an offer on these parts in NM. Ford model A.
It kind of sucks that with all the car hoists you have in the garage you guys still have to lay on your backs to work on your projects.
Because we’re working on multiple projects at a time and sometimes things hang on the lift for days or weeks waiting on parts or time to finish. That’s the problem with a TH-cam channel.. we can’t just skip doing videos for a month while we finish up another project.
Hockey pukes works better for body mounts
“Better” is a relative term.
Pukes. Hahahaha
