Man, I lot of those venders are shooting for the stars. I get the convention upcharge but if you're so far out of bounds then it's a waste of time because no one will buy those items. When I sell at conventions, I need to get my money but price to actually sell stuff.

I have general rule never paid more for a open game that cost more with came out in retail price. For example I never pay more than 49.99 for a PS2 game because thats what the retail price at the time. The only time I paid more than retail price if the game is still seal but if its already pre-owned I always keep this rule on mind

Honorable mention to Magician’s Quest: Mysterious Times DS which was in a similar price range but about $30 cheaper than those two. I've spent a good bit on games but I've been collecting for roughly 15 years. Collecting for so long has allowed me to get some great deals over years that really look great with today's values. Earthbound CIB for $400 back in 2016, Super Bowling for $30 back in 2015 I think, $200 for Mighty Final Fight CIB years ago, $120 for a sealed Street Fighter on original Gameboy years ago, $10 Pokemon Gameboy games CIB years ago...
But I've also paid $1500 for Little Samson a few years ago, $1,500 for Bonks Adventure on NES CIB a couple of years ago, and $1,800 for Pokemon Box at Southeast Game Exchange exchange this year.
So I've gotten some crazy deals and crazy find and I've spent a good bit on games too.

Once a game costs over $300, I lose interest in the purchase. Obviously for an incredibly rare Nintendo Championship NES Cart, I can see why it is valued in the tens of thousands but I am not willing to tie up so much money in a Game Cart that could halve in value overnight for reasons beyond my control.
My big money weakness is Swiss watches because I get to use them and not have to leave them sealed in box to maintain and increase their value. High-End watches are a cheatcode to investment profits with the top 5 brands. Never buy a Hublot though if you are seeking a profit in a year or two or ever basically, they are crap.

I don’t tend to pay market value for games but It’s in pristine shape and decided it would be worth it to complete my CIB Fire Emblem game collection (only missing the Fates Special Edition but I honestly don’t care too much to get it since I already have revelations digital.) I'm more selective now that I've got a larger collection (and I'm not going for a full set of anything righf now), but when I was going for my full Sega CD set (mostly loose), I did end up paying (total) $1500 for Snatcher, but not all at once. The disc ran me $900, and the case and manual was around $600. Its the right combination- low print, great game, and not available on any other platform (at least in English). I feel like certain games, if they're available on other platforms, can help keep the price down - not always, but sometimes. Being locked on a particular console usually drives it up, or being the best version.
