Congratulations my friend. I got 3 lights ABS, ETS and another one. Removed ABS Pump motor discovered brushes gone. Will check wirings for damages since watch your post. Thank-you.
It's not always that on these cars it's the electric motor on that abs system ... it comes off easily with 2 torx head bolts.. they have premature wear on the brushes that run the motor and cause the electric abs motor to stop working, it's simply a failed design.. It's more than likely that if you've got more than 80k on the car.. nothing else is known to fail on that part unless you have cable rub like that which isn't common... could also be power steering fluid damaging the wires but not likely.. You're meant to replace the electric abs motor on these cars so just go with that first to anyone having this problem... also try the brake switch on the pedal... and try replacing the abs relay, u never know.
Also a little sensor behind the brake pedal can go bad and cause similar fault, Mercedes recalled ML to replace but perhaps this fault causes pedal sensor to burn out.
I fixed MY M CLASS ESP/BAS PROBLEM BY DO ALL THE QUICK FIXES FIRST!, THEY DIDN'T WORK!!!(LOOK UNDER YA HOOD IN BIG FUSE/RELAY BOX) GET A NEW ESP RELAY!!!(FIRST BIG BLUE RELAY IN BOX!!!)UNPLUG NEG. BATTERY CONNECTION BOUT 5MINS. 2 RESET UR ECU. IT FIXED MY PROBLEM
Next time go to relay #30 and bypass it. If the motor comes on then is water damage because the water reservoir is on top of it and water damage the other components. Pull the front of it and the plug. Dry them and put it back in. Cover with plastic bag so water never leaks in to it. Check blue relay in the fuse box!! Good luck!!!!
This is why I thank GOD that I'm a mechanic and I can fix things myself!! The dealerships will rape and half the time they have no clue about anything! They told you the unit had to replaced just to get you out of their hair and keep their inventory moving! Common practice with ALL dealerships.
Hello Sir, I have the same problem (ml 270cdi W163), ESP bass light on , the car suddenly brakes !!! Luckily ABS doesn't make the wheels lock. I wonder if it is the fault of the ESP sensor, or the steering angle sensor. Thanks and greetings from Italy
Limp mode solutions go to fuse box and by pass relay with abs if you hear the motor you are good. Then go to face part removed clean and dry maybe replace. Install it back. End of problem.
Interesting fault fix!, my ML270CDI is throwing the lights up just after you start driving, wonder if its also a chafed wire. maybe a different one to yours since the light is not on all the time. strangely enough, the ABS light used to come on all the time, then the BAS/ESP light would come on shortly after. it makes sense that it would be a bad wire if I disturbed the harness while doing the headlamp bulbs, thus the ABS light now only comes on when driving above running pace. My BAS/ESP/ABS computer was not dry solder jointed either, so the problem must be at the block, or a wheel sensor.
first time the abs sensor driver side speed did the job, by replacing it, sometimes it would come on and off, but found out it was cut by kinking the wheels left and right so once I fixed it but it snap from where I fixed so I replace and on ebay 18.00 box and it worked and now it did the same, hut I figured it would have been the passenger side and didn't even checked it just bought it on ebay and replace it, but light didn't go off, so now will check under the hood and check the fused box and let you guys know how is the outcome, thanks guys, good luck!
Hi, did you end up fixing your issue? I'm battling an intermittent ABS/ESP malfunction which comes on every morning, goes away after a restart. Changing the sensor didn't help...
I have similar problem. But not just abs light. Also has esp tcs light. It beeps. Goes on and off. Had codes read but it was not helpful. Swapped out the blue relay, did not help. Mine will shift but occasionally go into limp mode second gear. Restarting car usually gets it out of limp mode. I'm thinking the abs esp module or abs computer are bad. Or a bad connection. Not sure yet.
1999 ML 320 light came on abs, ESP, and BAS warning light came on replace the left & right abd speed sensor but still light on? anyone knows the same prolem on their car, please advice

May I ask if you had the lights on as well as beeping? maybe i missed that part.
