Converted to mostly titanium a couple of years ago and it's fine. Still use aluminium occasionally in windy/wet/cold weather as it does heat up better. The oxidising I've seen tends to be on surplus canteens that's been sat in a warehouse for 30 year's or very old heavily used cookwear, I don't use them. I looked heavily into "the science" a few years ago and I got that inhaling the smoke during the industrial process of making aluminium whatever is definitely bad but couldn't find a credible, set in stone answer for just using the stuff. So i just keep it to very occasional use.

The one thing i do like about titanium is how fast it cools. It loses heat almost as fast as aluminum foil.
I use a titanium twig stove and alcohol stove. They are ready to put-away as soon as the fire goes out. They are so light you don't even realize you have them.

Another good review, Doug! Nice gear & reasonably priced. Unfortunately, for some folks, even that reasonable price exceeds the budgets of folks on fixed income. At age 83 & with physical issues, I'll be doing well to use what I have! On the other hand, an accumulation of cheap gear adds up quickly, so using the Old School mind-set: use what you have and save until you can pay cash for what you need. In reality, most of us have duplicates & triplicates of various pieces of gear which tend to accumulate. Having said that, upon reflection, outdoor adventurers would do well to consider purchasing high-quality, durable goods such as you reviewed in this video. Great video! To God be the glory! Amen.

The aluminum issue is a myth, but they die hard. The corrosion is more likely minerals in water. My issue with titanium is how unevenly it heats.

Titanium is great. Good to see some cheaper options available now. Ultralight gear is so expensive.

Good luck cooking in it. It takes skill not to burn your food unless your just boiling water. I have found that you need to manage your heat carefully and cook only stews or soups in it. I went back to my stainless for fishing trips.

A few years ago I did a lot of foraging and portaging, cooking on a campfire rather than a stove. I found that the only utensil I needed was a large Chinese wok, which allowed me to boil, steam or fry, and I could eat directly from the wok.
So just now I looked around for titanium woks. Aliexpress has some, but there is *no* weight advantage in comparison with the steel ones. It makes me wonder if they are truly titanium.

I used a stainless steel mixing bowl with a metal plate for a lid for years, the bowl was shaped like a wok. You put the bowl on the top of your stuff in your backpack like a steel helmet for your stuff and the plate slid down the back with your sit mat. I'd bake rice with coconut and whatever meat I had, lots of calories and lightweight to carry. Good to use for personal hygiene and so on. Only downside, terrible on those small lightweight butane type burners, slid off easily. I lent it out for it's intended domestic use and never got it back, don't know why I didn't get another.

Great tips! Light and light on the pocket is always a good combination. I've seen some videos warning that stuff advertised as titanium from China can be fake, any concerns here?

Thank you! These items I received from Temu are pure titanium. I don't have the equipment to do scientific analysis beyond testing it with a magnet. The gear was non-magnetic. I know that it's titanium because of the strength and weight. If it were aluminum, it would be flimsy but it's not. If it were steel, etc then it would be heavy. In the past, I have seen internet listings where there is the word "titanium" in the title of the listing. But then if you read the description etc the color of the item is titanium but it's made of a different material. IMO listings such as that are deceptive. You can protect yourself by carefully reading the description (not just scanning the title). Also, I prefer listings with a good number of reviews, and ones that seem authentic. That's basically all I can say from my experience.

The potable (drinking) water container box on the Cal 39 needed to be replaced and the Marina said the only metal you can use for drinking water storage on the boat has to be fabricated using Stainless Steel to pass Coast Guard inspection. Aluminium would be illegal.

Thanks for your comment and concerns. I don't give a good review simply because I got the item for free. My opinions are honest. Of course I am human like everyone else. So if I get something for free I can be excited like a boy on Christmas. I tell people that from time to time. I'm trying to be unbiased, but I'm human. Also you'll see that I disclose that the video is sponsored so that TH-cam puts notice on the screen. I tell people in the video description. Many/most bushcraft youtubers these days don't do that. I look for it and they fail to disclose.
