I use colored pencils to sometimes highlight..but all the time underline!!! Sooooo much more colorful ..I also use my acrylic paints 🎨 and q tips to add small blasts of color or small designs...lack of money doesn't mean I can't journal in my bible lol

Hi Faith! Wanted to let you know, I have the same Bible you do, and love it too! I have used the mild liner highlighters in mine and they’re great! But I did also find others that are CHEAPER, but they have the same pretty colors and you get a pack of 12 for $5.54 on Amazon! They are called the Powerline 2500 by Javapen. They work just as well as the Zebra mild liners, also I’ve found this out with other ribbons, that for your twine like ribbon marker, if you want it to not fray, hold the bottom kind of tight together and put clear nail polish all over the bottom, it keeps it all together so it doesn’t completely fray on you! 😊 have an awesome day!
WOW, thank you! This was so helpful! A subscriber just sent me a few midliners and I liked them a lot but now I want to try the Javapen ones! They don't bleed either?
Waittttt you wake up at 4 in the morning?! Also, I recommend mildliner highlighters! They in a variety of light colors and I've been using them in my journalling bible. P.S. I'm new to Bible journaling, and you've really helped me get started!
I don’t have an interleavened Bible so I’m journaling in my NIV Bible. There’s not a lot of room to write so I add tracing paper or transparent sticky notes. I love the art that I’ve seen in others bibles but I’m like you and I want to see my text because it’s also my study everyday Bible.
My Bible journaling has been contained to colorful notes & occasional hand-outs stuck in the pages. So far I use a 005 Micron and a set of old pencils as highlighters. I then keep a notebook with my Bible and pencil pouch for topical studies vs vrs-by-vrs. I color by feel, for example if something is godly it may be yellow, war/sin/anger may be red or orange, royalty purple. Whatever feels like the right color in the moment.
When it comes to marking method, my method is highlighting, underlining with whatever colors, pen or highlighter I have on hand and using the same colors to take a note drawing a box around the note and connect it to the passage that it belongs too, all with the same colors. For that one note. I will usually change color with a different passage. My kids likes to use my pen stash at church. I'm mean I have learn to bring a lot because someone is going to ask for one. So I may not have that blue pen I only mark a certain thing with. So I work with what I have in the moment.
I use Walmart's gel highlighters. A trick I learned quickly---because they do have a waxy feel on the page-- is to take a tissue and gently rub over the highlighted area to reduce the possible excess of 'wax'. Also, these only shadow on the next page. Some have said they are unable to write over these type of highlighters--solution, write the note or circle or box the word before highlighting. I have found that later on--a few days, weeks---I am able to wrote over the highlighted area. Have an awesome Saturday and God bless y'all 😇💙💙
Most of us that do a lot of art in the Bible have a specific Bible for that. It isn’t our main study Bible. More of an art/meditation Bible. I DO have a specific color code (with color pencils and Sharpie PENS , not markers) for my study Bible. Since you asked heheheh. Love your vids!

Hey girl, Mr Pen (bought from Amazon) has gel highlights made for bibles…: they are sort of like a crayon but smoother and they come in an assortment of colors and I am obsessed with them. They don’t bleed through and they’re amazing. Just don’t leave them in a hot car
My favourite yellow highlighter is Zebra’s Zebrite eco yellow highlighter. Not seen the eco type so much lately, it was a white pen barrel. And the new type doesn’t say eco, and it’s black, but I hope it’s the same. It doesn’t bleed through, even in my little Cambridge Clarion. I’ve tried those dry gel ones which it says don’t bleed, but eventually they just stain and spread! And feel gritty ugh
I haven't been able to journal much during the sermon. I take my regular easy to see the print Bible and usually write in it or on scrap paper/notebook and then later re-listen or re-read and transfer as there's not a lot of space. when I feel a lot of room is taken up I'll switch to a different Bible. I bought the interleaved one when it was $20 so I may start doing something more permanent in that one but not sure it'll be one I take with me to church. I guess methodist preachers go faster LOL! the senior pastor who recently retired wouldn't really make 3 points - he'd tell stories and those are hard to write LOL! I recently ordered some washi tape and scrapbook paper, etc to try but I don't want to spend a lot of time being 'artsy' - I'm more like you describe yourself - I like to write and have some color and tactile-ness for interest and to interact. I like being able to see the text and love the flippy papers and sticky notes and stickers :-)
It's not pretty Bible journaling, but they also have looseleaf BIbles, which are amazing for keeping a bunch of notes and being able to "store" them in context.
@@HowtoFaithALife Not exactly (although over time it will get bulkier and I'll probably move it into multiple separate, smaller binders). I add pages, kind of like you add tip-ins to your journaling Bible. Especially if you trim the add-in pages so they're about 2/3 or 3/4 of regular height (trim the tops off), it makes it easy to see what's the actual Bible and what's added. (This trick actually came from timeline books! lol) It's for sure not a Bible I'd carry around with me, though! lol It's definitely more for study (although I have the CURRENT book I'm studying in my quiet time binder).
Your energy is infectious! I do all of my highlights with Crayola Twistable Crayons. I've tried many different highlighters but the Crayons have proven to be the best all around highlighters for me...total winner!
I mainly do everything digitally, like study the bible off my youversion bible app and then take pretty notes in my Bible journal. But funny enough, I don’t take it to church with me on Sunday’s because I write slow and I know it wouldn’t look as pretty lol
Hi! I just came across your videos. I *LOVE* the way you Bible Journal. I'm all about the notes. I used to be really (err... somewhat) artistic and tried to make pretty pages (I was using a notebook at the time) but for ME it became more about the drawing than the words. My Bible now is all notes and I use lots of colored pens to make it 'pop'. I do have a couple color codes. I have red in the O.T for the scarlet thread. There's a certain blue I'll use for definitions (however - I find myself NOT using this that often... I forget and just write. So I may change this one eventually to apologetic type notes). And a certain purple for historical context. (I use the purple the most). If things DONT end up these colors that they should be - that's ok. If other things accidentally end up these colors and shouldn't be. That's ok. LOL I'm pretty lenient on it. I also like to 'highlight' repetitive themes. I bought some el cheapo fineliners, and they came with several neon colors, so I often use those as 'highlighters'. I am considering deconstructing a large (or giant) print Bible and putting it on a disc bound system, so I can add pages, etc. My eyes ain't what they used ta be!!! Then I could add lots of pages in between, cut outs from a bible study that spoke to me, prayers, etc etc. But this would be a purely 'at home' system, not something I could take to church, etc with me. Currently, I'm just gluing pages of notebook paper in between pages in my Bible, and that works - but it messes with the binding pretty quickly. Anyway, I just got on here to say hi and you have a new subscriber. But I'm wordy.
Thanks for watching! I am so honored, and I love your note system with the color coding! I feel like I would mess it up, but I love that you give yourself grace! I also love your idea of deconstructing and disc-binding it! That would be SO COOL!
@@HowtoFaithALife Girl, grace is my saving...welll.. GRACE LOL I mess so much stuff up. And I have lived with self condemnation for too long. I finally said no more. As far as color coding - It's just 3 colors. I did a thorough study of "Jesus in the Old Testament" - or the scarlet thread - and my red pen got a good workout. It was an amazing study that I'd love to go back and enhance on sometime. The purple is easy. I use it a lot when I first start an in depth study of a particular book - so all the background info goes in purple. The blue -- well, I just forget. I bought the stuff today to deconstruct and rebind a bible. I'm insanely nervous about it, but also excited. Several years back I said it'd be amazing to print out a Bible and 3 ring bind it.. Then we could add all the notes, add all the church programs, all the everything. This will be my attempt at something similar - just maybe without the church programs.
I use yellow crayon. Can I give a teacher tip. Use short pencil nubs to get young kiddos to hold a pencil right. I always took everyone’s broken pencils for my special ed class.
I ❤ this!! I think I’ve finally found the style of journaling Bible that I want (ESV journaling study Bible) & I can’t wait to start using ur tips. What is ur opinion on Bible journaling with a hardback bible vs a soft cover?
I'm so glad! I'm personally just a hardback person. I prefer that hard grip you can get and don't like the floppy style Bibles. But, I have since gotten my Bible rebound (which you can watch here: th-cam.com/video/BrZUjVQKo4o/w-d-xo.html ) and it is a great middle ground!
Why? WHY? Why is the ESV interweaved 3:24 hardback Bible out of print? I can get it in leather cheaper than the ONE remaining used copy for $125.00. I’m retired and living on SS…and I’ll continue to pray for God’s blessings! This copy is a WANT and not a NEED! Thank you Faith for all you’re teaching me! I enjoy your channel so much!!

I felt that too! It's so neat and perfect and clean at the beginning! But I am so glad I dove in and wasn't afraid to make mistakes, because I tried new things that I love and got lost in the delight of His Word!
Thank you! I didn't know it until after I bought it, but it's called an interleaved Bible because every other page is a blank page! I always have it linked in my description, because I secretly think it's like the prettiest Bible I've ever seen, but I shared in one of my recent videos that you could literally just tape in a page in between every single page in your own 'regular' Bible and have an interleaved Bible!
You mentioned your good commentary books are at the church office. If price was no object what commentary “series” would you recommend for verse by verse in-depth commentary?
I love painting and sanding and bedazzling. Do you think if I design my Bible cover will that be bad I mean people put notes in there. I just want to put my personal twist on it. I don’t want to be disrespecting the Bible though.
I got a Bible journal for Christmas. It’s filled with pictures to color which I absolutely love to do. So I have seen people paint like water colored paint in the Bible? I like that idea but I am like I don’t want to ruin my Bible Paige with paint.
Lots of people have different tricks to make sure they don’t ruin their page, like practicing beforehand on a separate sheet of paper, but I totally understand the feeling! That’s why I made this video: th-cam.com/video/aur36zbzAPQ/w-d-xo.html

But funny enough, I don’t take it to church with me on Sunday’s because I write slow and I know it wouldn’t look as pretty lol
lol, that makes sense!
I am so loving your videos! What does your husband think about all this being done to your Bible? Is he excited too?
Yes! He giggles and tries some himself! He's more of a notebook kind of guy
I like to use transparent sticky notes before I write anything down! Or for just things I wanna write right on top of the scripture
Thanks for adding that!
@@BiblicallyNoted Wow! I am excited for you! I hope this project is really really fruitful and an awesome resource, tempted to do the same thing!
@@HowtoFaithALife If you do - I hope you video it! I'd love to see how you set it up, etc. :)
Okay! I will definitely film it!
Just uploaded like this too! Thank you for the tips 😍🙏
Woah! Great minds think alike! I’ll have to check out yours!
Mr pen gel bible highlighters love the pastel ones
I use yellow crayon. Can I give a teacher tip. Use short pencil nubs to get young kiddos to hold a pencil right. I always took everyone’s broken pencils for my special ed class.
That’s so smart! I love that idea!!!!
I enjoy using zebra mildliners in m my Bible
I need to check those at!
@@HowtoFaithALife that are the best highlighters I have ever used they doesn’t bleed threw Bible pages and they come in a wide variety of pretty colors Highly recommend
@@abbiesmith2992 that's SO helpful to know, THANK YOU!
I just got my kjv interleaved and I'm terrified to write anything in it lol 😂 just wanted to share that I'm scared 😳
I felt that too! It's so neat and perfect and clean at the beginning! But I am so glad I dove in and wasn't afraid to make mistakes, because I tried new things that I love and got lost in the delight of His Word!
@@HowtoFaithALife I hear ya
Do you need a journal to bible journal i have one thats where I use for studying for the Bible love your videos so much 💗
You can use whatever! That’s awesome that you journal in a journal! Sounds cool!
Zebra Midliners are amazing highlighters of you ever decide you do want to use highlighters.
YES! Someone sent me some and now I am addicted! Also, Mr. Pen gel highlighters!
Mild liners are amazing highlighters- I need to stop being a perfectionist with my Bible 😭
It can be hard to not want to be!
How did you make your sleeve in the back for note cards 🥰
A few other people have asked me, I need to make a video and show it!
I like how your Bible has an empty page for notes in-between pages.
Hello mam again a request pls ....pls make a video on Matthew chapter 25..verse 14 to 30......I want to know more about this chapter....😊
I’ll check it out!
@@HowtoFaithALife Thank you mam 😊
I do notes in my bible because I’m not an artist or a drawer. I already have certain verses and pictures to color in my bible so I don’t have to.
How do you tape the pages in? Not when you add extra pages on top but like add pages so it doesn’t hide the reading?
Is commentary Bibles the same as the study Bible? Which one is better? I’ve got 5 Bibles and one is NIV life application study Bible
Countownnnnn
Lol
If you're going to mess up a page, Rehab is a good one to choose. She wasn't perfect either.
What do you mean by “commentaries are bea”. At minute 1:57
You haven't loaded a video where you do BIble jouraling on Ephesians 5!
Nope, I haven’t! Someone requested Ephesians 6 so I thought it was a good idea!
I am a first year Bible student.. I am having a hard time to Bible jouraling.. here in South Africa 🇿🇦Bible jou is not a big thing... can you give my some points on how to Bible joural. Thank you
It doesn't matter to me to awfully much if something bleeds horribly thru...I try not to think about HOW it's gonna look ya know? Cause it's ultimately for me and God...just that I took the time to do it to for him Is all I need to worry about...now..dont get me wrong...there are times..welp..EVERYDAY...that I would love to have more journaling supplies ..BUT...we don't have alot of extra money...so.
I get creative.
What kind of bible do you use? I just found your channel so was just wondering.. not that I’m going to go out a buy your specific bible but wanted to know if it’s a actual journaling bible..
It’s an ESV interleaved Bible! So every other page is blank! And I am not COMMITTED to the ESV but it’s what I have.
@@HowtoFaithALife yeah I found what you use.. thanks 😊

So true!
Mr. Pen bible highlighters
As long as i can see the scripture through the art, I'm cool with it. It makes me uncomfortable when people cover over Scripture - but I'm not sure if that's a Holy Spirit cringe or a me cringe. Whether thats me being legalistic or honoring... Either way- its a major ick to me. But i understand not everybody feels the same so i TRY to be graceful about it. Buuuut ya nah, fam. Not for me!
Faith ur a lovely girl...but the word "bae" ..umm..its..Dutch for the word poop..just change poop to the dirty word that is also in reference to poop... no hate I promise..love ya and ur vids
