We did a similar fence… I was shocked how quickly the bamboo rotted at the grass. We left it all in place but then bought 3” orange pipe and filled them with concrete and a wee footing. Now it’s been in place for 2years
I love your house. You were wise to have a wide overhang. Not only does it protect the siding, but it shades the house a bit. Excellent job, and worth every penny. And Brandon, you lucky guy! You picked one beautiful Filipina. Please look after her well! Wishing you all the best in your future endeavors.
We migrated in Canada year 2014 but my husband and I wants to retire in the Philippines. It is always my dream to have a big lot and small house because I want to plant vegetable. We don’t want to live in the city anymore. I love your property, I wish someday I can buy something like that.
My wife is from Leyte, Leyte. We are planing on moving there in September. We have a house in Ormoc City and a farm in Leyte, Leyte. We currently reside in Kent WA. I work in downtown Seattle. I think that makes us double neighbors, let's have coffee some place some time.

Your tiny house is great BUT you should have a large (raised) roof off of one side of it with outside kitchen, seating areas, Hammock, tool shed, etc. for working in things, lounging, cooking, etc. etc. cuz in the tropics you do lots of things outside instead of inside because it gets too hot inside and cooling a large area is expensive! Outside you have good ventilation and fans!@@brandonandarlene
Get rid of that BLACK roof . I used BOYSEN B8500 Reflecting White Cool Shades from Shopee on my galvanized already painted white roof and it made a world of difference keeping our house cooler. The inside of my house is almost 3 degrees cooler then before it was painted and I have no insulation in my attic . My house roof already had 2 coats of ordinary roof paint. Don't let anyone tell you to use a dark color on your roof or outside house walls. My house in the Philippines is known as the white house on the hill. Only thing left to paint white is the chocolate brown colored window frames . If you want to know more about keeping your house cool let me know.
Or he should leave it as it is and cover it fully with solar panels. Build a little extra rooms for big enough (car/truck) batteries to store all the access electricity that's generated. The solar panels will then also be an extra layer to block direct sunlight contact with the roof and you can have your AC blasting on longer than usual.

I live in the USA but have had extensive, 26 years of dealings w the Philippines including 2 wives, one ex, one current coming up on 16 years. My American daughter is of course half pinay. I did business there in the phils for a decade. I stopped counting the time i was in the phils at 26 months. I know so many people who have gone there to retire or do business and they just dont get it......its my opinion that you're doing this right. Buy the land, build the little house, and plan to slowly get all the projects done. Are you planning to live in the USA full time w this set up for retirement or is it half year in each place?
Arlene will be coming to the US in December for a few years. We have this setup for our visits. Once we are ready, we will move to the Philippines full time and live in this studio until the bungalow is completed. I agree with you, its been over 3 years now before we did any type of purchases and I believe the best route is slow! If we don't like full time in philly we can always go back to the US. We will take one step at a time and see how things go. Thanks for watching
@@brandonandarlene Have you visited either place? I loved how cold it was at “People’s Park” in Tagaytay! (Was staying in Sucat, Muntinlupa, which is very hot.)
great purchase! now you can produce your own food like, vegetables, chicken eggs etc..after 1-2 year you should replace those bamboos with GI Pipes and cyclone wire I also live in Leyte.
Your new house is very beautiful and excellent bro. I have not seen a new model house like this until 2024. A lot of money seems to have been spent. 6×9 size with bamboo bongs is very nice for lunch and dinner. I am very happy. In my life too, I should build it in the model of your house. I saw your video from Telangana State Hyderabad in India. Great video your new home. My best wishes to your family. Thanks brother.

Congrats on the engagement and the beautiful home and property! If I were you I would buy the surrounding land as I am sure this area will be very valuable in the coming years. Most likely double or triple the land prices right now. Just subscribed.
Great job I’m building a house for my fiancé this year in Bulacan, I can’t believe that’s all it cost you to build that house very smart well done brother
Very nice property and tiny house/outside setup... Congrats and you have a new subscriber (me!)... Will run through your other vids as I have time... How much is your total investment to date for everything? Great start to life in The Philippines! Cheers! 🙏🙏🙏 👍😎👍
yes brother specially in province the land and house was cheap compare to manila. however make sure you have to adapt chicken noise during 6am but for us it was free alarm clock..
Great! I am dreaming about that. I will visit the Philippines end of this year for three months. THX for this upload, had lots of info I wanted to know...
Congratulations on your property. My feeling on concrete walls though, from my experience, is that they while they make you feel protected, it like being 'protected' inside a prison. The beautiful views are also reduced. Maybe a steel fence or a high chain link fence will offer pretty well the same security while not closing you in as much.
I had similar ideas but local architectural engineers point out what the local weather and insects do to USA standard construction. High winds destroy anything not made of concrete too. Arguably a concrete dome would be best suited to survive the Philippines.
One option some expats do is sign a long term lease 50+years on the land to last their lifetime...the actual house itself expats can own...just not the land so this solution circumvents that issue
Only thing I would have done is construct it in a way you can add to the house so everything is connected instead of having two separate structures. almost like creating a modular home. you build it in segments.
You bought her a house and lot. I’m sure that you know the laws in the Philippines. Take her to the USA and you may never see that place again. You’re still young so you’ll have time to recover financially from it. Not trying to crap on your video but this is from personal experience and observations of other expats that have gone down this path. Wishing you good luck 👍🏻
Mr Taylor, if she blows up the lot and guesthouse tomorrow my life changes ZERO financially speaking. No need for a recovery, were all in different positions with our finances. I appreciate your concern sir but its all good. Thanks for watching!
I wouldn't buy a property in the Philippines especially in a remote area. You never know who's planning to rob you or end up in a very bad situation. Poverty provokes crime. Just saying ! Minsan walang kamag anak pag dating sa pera..
@ TaraWendyUSA , you are a classic example of a person who has a negative mindset and the toxic filipino crab mentality . Why not just applaud the couple for sharing such a great story ?
Are you serious 😅. It's more crime in America 🇺🇸 as matter of fact I got held up in Hollywood changing my tire at a Gas station. Philippines is not as bad as people say it is I been here for 3years.
when i look for a place i always go right to the bathroom and see what it looks like and i have to say i love how you did yours. The other thing is 3 prong plug outlets and didnt really see any in your place. Think about getting solar power on the roof because as you know there is always brown outs from time to time and those solar would help.
Not a lot of people know that since Americans can only own 30% of the house and the national people there must own the property. He is more like a lease on property but never owning it 😂
awesome drone views of Leyte...i have a house in bukidnon, mindanao and its very beautiful nature there as well..missing it! ...but going there in april...cant wait! ..congrats to you both...blessings sent..like sent from Chicago...my asawa is from bukidnon..always take care there guys
❤ proud leyteño it's really good to see your place peaceful and far from marites😅 it's nice to stay in province than to stay in the city that is crowded and much traffic, happy for both of you God bless🥰
Another suggestion on the roof color: cover it with solar panels. Right now, prices are at an all-time low. You have enough area up there to more than support the tiny home and probably, when the time comes, a sizable amount of the bungalows needs. Leyte is right in the typhoon belt and backup power is something that comes in handy with brownouts as well.
Arlene has a wonderful family, a simple family. they are happy when they are together, they help each other and are there for each other in hard times..how can you not love them? you two have a family and a new home..i wish you to be happy together.
Very cute! Hubby and I are trying to get some plans together to get out to the PI soon. He is nearing retirement and we have been talking about possibly splitting our time in the US & PI. I was born in Leyte and moved to the US when I was 7 and haven’t been back since. It’s time…
I love the tiny house and the WONDERFUL comfort room, Brandon. You should really be proud of the small masterpiece you and Arlene's family have created there.
That’s a nice Brandon it very peaceful and quiet. You can’t buy a$15 thousand house here in the states 😂 only in the Philippines. You guy’s take care. Watching from Chicago 🇵🇭🇺🇸

Awesome! Thank you!
All the best in your new home and the start of a new life together .
hope you did your legal due diligence and are going to sign a prenup. sure is a lot of ''we'' being said. i would have waited until you were married, since both can own jointly at that point.
Big advocate of prenups for all men. Doesn't matter if dating in west or east should be mandatory. Seen to many coworkers wiped out. The laws in the west are ruthless towards men. Anyways thanks for watching as always johnny!
You could buy a wall bed kit so your bed could convert into a desk when not using the bed. Then it could be your office and guest house without cluttering the small space there.
its a good place you got there, fresh air in the morning
Thanks for watching Peter!
Nice to meet you my wife is from Bacolod city..love your video..We now live in Canada
This is a huge inspiration!
My dream is to do something very similar, in Tagaytay or Malaybalay.
Cooler at Elevation, Yo!
Awesome, good luck to you!
@@brandonandarlene Have you visited either place? I loved how cold it was at “People’s Park” in Tagaytay! (Was staying in Sucat, Muntinlupa, which is very hot.)
Great job guys. Where do you do the actual cooking?
In the hut for now until we build the bungalow. Thanks for watching!
Smart move Just make do first Its so cosy.
Do slowly not like others getting into debts n not good for marriage Both happy is more important
Of course, thanks for watching!
First time viewer, Like the Vlog and what a cute little house and you seem like wonderfull people. Im gonna check out some more of your videos now :)
Thank you so much!!
great purchase! now you can produce your own food like, vegetables, chicken eggs etc..after 1-2 year you should replace those bamboos with GI Pipes and cyclone wire I also live in Leyte.
That's the plan!
That’s the way to do it!
My wife loves the window in the shower!
Thanks for watching Glen!
I'd just be happy living in that! She seems like a nice lady. New to the channel, good video mate.
Thanks 👍
New subscriber here. Look forward to watching your videos
Awesome! Thank you!
Just came across your channel now. We're a young couple he's from the U.S. we're settling in Leyte too.
Awesome, thanks for watching and good luck!
Wishing you two all the very best from the Cordilleras 👍👍
Thanks so much!
Thanks so much for watching, Good luck to you as well!
Thanks for your reply brother. Enjoy your life with New house. Cute couples
I just subscribe because you have beautiful scenery....

Just left Abuyog a week ago. Miss it already. Can not wait to get back there
Yeah same, love philly as well! Thanks for watching Steve!
New Subscriber here and how old it is viewing your blog on your new build and land its awesome, how long you staying back in USA b4 coming back to Philippines to start the main house cos that's gonna be exciting seeing that being built for sure
I visit Arlene every 6 months. We wont be building the main house for about 3 years as Arlene will be coming to the states for a while. We will document it when we do though. Thanks for watching!
Congrats on the engagement and the beautiful home and property! If I were you I would buy the surrounding land as I am sure this area will be very valuable in the coming years. Most likely double or triple the land prices right now. Just subscribed.
That's the plan, thanks for watching!
WOW,....! Nice view
It really is! thanks for watching!
Great job I’m building a house for my fiancé this year in Bulacan, I can’t believe that’s all it cost you to build that house very smart well done brother
You can do it! Thanks for watching!
Very nice property and tiny house/outside setup...
Congrats and you have a new subscriber (me!)...
Will run through your other vids as I have time...
How much is your total investment to date for everything?
Great start to life in The Philippines!
Cheers!
🙏🙏🙏
👍😎👍
12k for lot, 15.9K for guesthouse,. Thanks for watching!
Very nice. Another 3kW Hybrid solar, and you can be completely off the grid.
Solar eventually. Thanks for watching Alfonso!
Very nice. Congratulations! $15900 was for land and house?
yes brother specially in province the land and house was cheap compare to manila. however make sure you have to adapt chicken noise during 6am but for us it was free alarm clock..
Land 12k, thanks for watching!
@@brandonandarlene So to build the actual house was $3900.00?
All good points, we got time to figure it out. Thanks for watching!
New sub here and I will be settling down in Ormoc here in a few months. Beautiful tiny house and property. I love Leyte.
I love Leyte as well, thanks for watching!
Nice😍
Thanks for watching Peter!
i was born in leyte. i've been living in australia for most of my life and i plan on buying property in leyte.
Awesome, thanks for watching!
I suggest you should put up an thick steel fence to the window and door inside your house for your safety and protection.
I hate those things but understand why some do, I think we are fine after the trump wall goes up!
To my knowledge I’ve never seen foreigners getting robbed by a break in but is it a common occurrence for break ins without a fence/wall?
Correction: You bought her a house and land. Very generous of you.
It’s actually true.
Same what I thought
Yeap unless you loan her the money under a LLC and she forecloses
True!!
@@brandonandarlene that’s what I told my 40 year old self as well. But seriously, I hope that it works out for you.
Where in Leyte?
Thanks you, best of luck to you as well!@@LordTaylor007

Happy watching 💕
I wouldn't buy a property in the Philippines especially in a remote area. You never know who's planning to rob you or end up in a very bad situation. Poverty provokes crime. Just saying ! Minsan walang kamag anak pag dating sa pera..
He is from USA. Crime there is 10x higher than in Leyte.
@ TaraWendyUSA ,
you are a classic example of a person who has a negative mindset and the toxic filipino crab mentality .
We: you bought a house for her&family. You own nothing!
Not a lot of people know that since Americans can only own 30% of the house and the national people there must own the property. He is more like a lease on property but never owning it 😂
Amazing, you've got all the answers. Lol
He treats the lady with respect she does the same not everybody is the same
They look like a genuine couple trying their best
awesome drone views of Leyte...i have a house in bukidnon, mindanao and its very beautiful nature there as well..missing it! ...but going there in april...cant wait! ..congrats to you both...blessings sent..like sent from Chicago...my asawa is from bukidnon..always take care there guys
Awesome, have fun on your trip!
❤ proud leyteño it's really good to see your place peaceful and far from marites😅 it's nice to stay in province than to stay in the city that is crowded and much traffic, happy for both of you God bless🥰
Thank you! 😃
Nice and Easy, I only question Flooding, Leyte Known for weather, Built a Bomb Shelter, Make sure you have disaster plan in Place, God Bless
Yes, thanks for watching!
Who needs a Hilton , when you can do “Glamping “ in your own backyard!!
I love your set up , kabana style bamboo hangout , awesome 🙌
I am jealous 😎
So true! Thanks for watching!
Happy for you guys. Install a pool and you have everything you need.
Thanks for watching Will!
Congrats to both of you.. I wish I could have that kind of peace. You are a beautiful couple
Arlene has a wonderful family, a simple family. they are happy when they are together, they help each other and are there for each other in hard times..how can you not love them? you two have a family and a new home..i wish you to be happy together.

That place looks amazing. Sure it’s small, but perfectly comfortable. You guys must be really pleased with how it turned out!

Wow the place is beautiful, very comfortable, quiet, not noisy, very relaxing 👍👌
Very cute! Hubby and I are trying to get some plans together to get out to the PI soon. He is nearing retirement and we have been talking about possibly splitting our time in the US & PI. I was born in Leyte and moved to the US when I was 7 and haven’t been back since. It’s time…
Wow fresh air sorround w/ a greenish diff plants ,,. After my retirement I stay also in my province …. Currently n UK 🇬🇧
