    Without even watching the video first, I will go with the Amazon Basics, I've been a Moleskine user for close to 20 years and their quality is utter crap nowdays, totally not worth the obscene price they ask.

      @tortagialla  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It’s definitely pricey especially when there are lots of other options to try. Thanks for sharing - it’s too bad moleskine quality has been going downhill…

      @@tortagialla It wasn't like this at first, I started using them in the early 2000's and they were really good, excellent paper and sturdy construction, I've brought them even in camping and hiking and never had an issue.
      Nowadays they use cheap Chinese paper and the binding also took a turn for the worse, all of this despite a 20 euros price tag, no thanks, I will just use Clairefontaine with my fountain pens.

      @@paulll47 That is really too bad! It seems there is also an odd range of quality where many people talk about the low quality issues and others seem to say it’s fine. Very odd - no consistency.

      For the price, Amazon Basics notebook works very well for me for my fountain pens (fine nibs), calligraphy ink for dip pens and turkey quill pens. These notebooks can take lots of abuse. Great for a beginner and for someone just getting into the fountain pen world, this would be ideal.

      @@PenArrowNation thanks for your input! Yes, I was surprised such an economical notebook takes fountain pens!

    I'm curious about the Amazon one. I'm currently on a Moleskine no buy because they're n longer recognizing Taiwan as it's own independent nation

    • @tortagialla
      @tortagialla  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes I had seen the change awhile back when they no longer listed Taiwan 😢

    Love seeing how many views this video is getting!! I would definitely spring for the Moleskine if i'm doing a lot of journaling and carrying it around, but would. choose the Amazon for work projects or low-stakes things - I think my frame of reference is now: "What would I trash or keep when moving apartments?" LOL

      Ahh very interesting point - yes, definitely depends on the purpose. Thanks so much for watching and commenting. I appreciate it!

    I've found price is not an indicator of how well the paper performs. There is a notebook I get at WalMart that's under $2 and it handles ink amazingly and never bleeds with fountain pens. I find a lot of the Pen + Gear at WalMart is exceptional paper, which being a long time Tomoe River paper user, blows me away. I have tried the Amazon Basics and was surprised by them but the tooth is a bit much for me with fp. But with ballpoint it's great.

      Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Agreed that price is not always an indicator of quality. I have heard of the pen and gear but unfortunately no Walmart in Europe 😢

    love moleskine, but prefer white paper.

      Great point - I’m not sure why moleskine only has their cream paper by design… except perhaps the art sketchbooks.

    The moleskin ones are getting ridiculous with pricing in Australia

    Strangely enough I use both of these in my PhD studying for taking notes and so forth. I prefer the color of the Moleskine paper better. But honestly I can't tell any other difference, they both have held up well to bike commuting through the desert. They both make my mathematics look a lot more professional.

    Cheap good quality paper is a good thing for people that have other more important things in their lives to spend money on. Let's face it even if you have the money sometimes buying something more expensive is more for stature or pleasure. These things are purely a matter for self reflection.

    • @tortagialla
      @tortagialla  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Very good point. We have to evaluate where we want to spend our money. I also think sometimes there might be hesitation to actually use a notebook that costs a lot!
