    Karen in denial about her eating disorder . It never stopped . Karen Had started not eating properly and using laxative to purge herself of food etc in 1976 and sadly this continued right into 1983 when her heart gave out in early February , 1983 . It’s so heartbreaking 💔 😢🌺💐

      It was really poor form for the interviewer to bring up Karen's health. Even public figures or 'stars' have the right not to disclose personal information. It was her own private battle regardless of being on public display.

      I wonder what she thought was achieving by not eating other than looking like a skeleton. I understand the obese people because I know food can relieve anxiety, but I can't understand the opposite

    I can certainly understand why Karen Carpenter 💐💐 would publicly deny that she had anorexia because in those days of the late 70s and early 1980s, it was a considered a sin to have any mental problems. In addition to that, both Karen Carpenter💐💐 and Richard Carpenter were conscripted to have a "Goody Goody" image and be perfect in every way! Thus, if Karen Carpenter💐💐 had anorexia that would mean that she was less than perfect. I would love to watch a documentary that I am having trouble streaming called, "Starving for perfection" which was made recently in Karen Carpenter's💐💐 voice and the Late Olivia Newton-John who was her good friend as well as other famous people talk about Karen Carpenter and her anorexia, but it's more in Karen Carpenter's 💐💐 voice. It is profoundly sad😢🖤🕯️🌹 that Karen Carpenter 💐💐 died so young because she was not only a very talented drummer🥁 and a very talented singer🎤, but I believe she was a kind, had a really good sense of humor, was down to Earth, and nice person which is very special in someone so famous!!! I so wish I could have met Karen Carpenter in person, but sadly she passed away when I was just a kid😢🖤🌹🕯️.

    This is painfully sad to watch. Karen fibbing about her anorexia, the siblings stopping the interview because it's such a touchy subject...
    No one knew she had only a couple more years to live, but the truth is, there shouldn't have been a new album or any personal appearances or anything UNTIL Karen was better.
    Thanks, Agnes, for instilling a lifelong inferiority complex into your daughter which she never overcame.
    REST IN POWER, KC. 🥁🎤🤍

      Not sure about this Agnes. I'm sure Agnes had her Agnes. But I agree going the showbiz route of coping, at that comeback rate they did, maybe not the best. And getting married for "stability" mmmm, not so sure. Probative interviews, especially by strangers....no way. She had a good brother though. More real friends probably would have helped. Such a difficult illness. May she rest in peace.

    • @captainfantastic9158
      @captainfantastic9158 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

      @@josephososkie3029 Agnes Carpenter favoured her son Richard over her daughter Karen. That's where the dissatisfaction with herself came in. That's why she started hurting herself. That's how anorexia nervosa got a hold of her. It wasn't because of the "pressures of fame," although that didn't help later on. EVERY UNWISE CHOICE Karen made in her life stemmed from that origin point---that she never felt she had her mother's unconditional love.
      Richard will never admit his mother was a piece of work publicly, but there you go.

    Thank you for uploading this interview again, the other video I know of this interview was made private a while ago.
    Such poorly written questions, Karen and Richard both look like they had a hard time trying to handle these stupid questions.
    About people thinking that Karen denied that she was ill;
    What Karen did wasn't her being in denial, by 1980 she knew she had a serious problem and started getting help, but media (especially here) always pushed her privacy to get some sort of a confession from Karen herself. No one has to admit or explain their illness on TV, only thing she denied was giving the answer interviewer literally begged for.
    You'll always be missed Karen Carpenter

    • @EllaJay
      @EllaJay 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Lawley's questions were justified, her guest looked like death! Karen did another interview that year on GMA looking even worse but everyone just sat there laughing, ignoring the obvious.. That's "stupid".
      I love and miss Karen but I do wish ppl had quit pandering and that she'd told the truth, it may have helped. Who knows? Denying it achieved nothing..✌️

    • @toldurm
      @toldurm 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@EllaJay Constantly pointing out that someone looks sick won't help but only drive them more into the illness. If someone told me the same things that interviewer did in this video, I'd think about it maybe for months, and not in a positive "yeah, so, I really do look sick, I should get help" kinda way but more of a "I do look sick, therefore I look skinny in people's eyes and if I 'heal' then people would know that I gained weight" way. You can't know what passes through people's minds, I know media doesn't care about interviewee's feelings but it is a fact that her questions were worded really insensitively, especially trying to get her to say her weight... inappropriate.
      The person themselves need to announce their illness to the media, media trying to catch a confession is not the way. So yes, denying it in media achieved nothing but we can't be sure if it'd achieve anything if she did accepted it.

      What the fuck are you talking about!? 😂 She’s very clearly denying it! It’s the child in the cookie jar denying they’ve eaten all the cookies! You only recover from metal illness when you admit your problem. Just because questions are difficult doesn’t make them stupid! Don’t do interviews. Don’t promote and don’t fucking stop eating then you won’t have these “issues” 😂

    Prowadząca wywiad Sue Lawley ciągle starała się zrobić z Karen ofiarę, która choruje, która straciła najlepsze lata życia, swoją młodość, bo poświęciła ją na ciężką pracę w zespole, i która nie potrafiła zorganizować sobie życia prywatnego. Słowa kierowane do Karen były jak broń wycelowana prosto w oczy. Karen nie raz musiała odwracać się do Richarda po pomoc w odparciu tego werbalnego ataku. Karen nie mogła szczerze i w atmosferze życzliwości odpowiadać na pytania. Zarówno ona i Richard musieli się przed nimi bronić. To naprawdę musiało boleć i zniechęcać oboje do szczerego wywiadu. To nic, że być może prowadząca miała dobre chęci i rację w dociekaniu do prawdy, ale wydaje się, że przekroczyła w tym wywiadzie pewien próg intymności. O tych sprawach, o które się dopytywała w imieniu telewidzów, zwykle rozmawia się tylko w gronie najbliższych, albo wręcz zostawia się je dla siebie.

      Sue Lawley started out as a news reporter, so her natural line of interrogation came to the fore. Sue _knew_ what the situation was and could see that Karen was lying and not very well either..

      I 100% agree. The same questions were asked so many times, almost as if the interviewer was fishing for something specific and wasn’t going to stop pushing until she got the “right” answer. You can tell how uncomfortable they both are. If you want to ask tough questions, ask them. But don’t harp on the same things when they gave you an answer.

    The most dangerous of all mental illnesses, has the highest fatality rate. Say that she could have handled it better yes but the interviewer in bringing up this topic was doing an important service not just to Karen but to her fans and stars tend to be protected from themselves, they become surrounded by people who aid in their self destruction (look at Elvis, Michael Jackson etc the list is long) with few people willing to be tough with them for fear of being cut off.

    Very odd that Karen would say she met her husband Tom Burris in 1979, you can tell she's not being truthful. She met him in the spring of 1980, they were married only a few months later in August 1980, and by December of that year the marriage was doomed. This interview took place in October 1981, with Karen still wearing the wedding ring and trying to put on a brave face

      She died just over a year after this interview. To her credit Sue was attempting to get the truth from the media reports Karen had a disorder. Sue started out as a news reporter so the instinct was still there. They never liked it, so Sue to her credit changed the tone and restarted the interview. All Karen had to say was that she did have a disorder brought on by the heavy non-stop schedule, but all is fine now and they are starting back up.

    Sue Lawley was used to interviewing Politicians, going for the jugular. Then she attempted to do stuff like this, she also had a go at a radio show 'Desert Island Discs' & did the same aa here, Dirk Bogarde was one of many shocked & not at all happy with Lawley's style - he had done the show before with a very different presenter & was expecting the same easy manner but instead he was grilled by Lawley.

    How many times can she ask the same question in different ways just to get Karen to talk about her health issues. Why not ask Richard about his drug issues or talk more about their careers and the music and what’s to come rather than the past? Or talk about life on the road and how it is to tour with family or going from place to place? I can think of 500 different questions she could have asked…
