Any kid that grow up on the SoCal coast during the 70s or 80s could have played this role. We all could act and talk like that and some of us always acted and talked like that. He was just playing himself and people he knew.
Sean Penn wasn't acting when he played this role. Penn was really just like Spicoli. That was the advice that director Amy Heckerling gave Penn when Penn asked "What's my motivation for the character?" Amy told Sean, "Just be yourself. No acting is necessary."
@@JerryM-p2vif that's right then I've been getting it wrong for 40 years! 😂 But I've gone over and over it and pretty sure it's " buzz". Anyway, it's a great line either way

Anyone else notice that at the beginning, the robber's gun was a .45 ACP, 1911 frame with the hammer down. The 1911 is not double action, meaning that you would either have to rack the slide or pull the hammer back before it will fire. He was so close to Billy, he could have taken it from him and beat him with it with no fear of getting shot. Then when Billy picks the robber's gun up, it has transformed into an M9 9mm Beretta. Man, the 80's were a magical time.
This movie hit way too close to home. I was a high school student in San Diego, graduated in 1980, not Clairmont High. LOL I new all these characters in one way or another.
This was great! These two different characters had a fun exchange at the beginning, went with their separate misadventures throughout the movie, then joined up again at the end! Spicoli and Hamilton! 👏😂
Not everywhere, my local mall south of Seattle was so busy before Christmas that the parking lot was full and multiple cops were needed to direct traffic.
So true. As a teenager in the 80s, we went to the mall a couple times a week to hang out. Time Out Arcade. Movie theater. Food court. Jack Lalane’s Fitness with the hot girls soliciting memberships out front. Macys. Seats. A&S. And all the smaller shops in between. The center of the mall had a small events stage at the bottom of an amphitheater. Musical shows. A circus. The mall was happening all the time. Times have certainly changed.
To all you way too young to remember : when the movie first hit basic cable and network TVs the end song wasn't rhe Goodbye song by Oingo Boingo .It was by some quickly made group with a song where they kept singing " thats all there is " or something to that effect . Oingo Boingo wouldn't let Universal Studios use their song for over the air and basic cable . When the movie was made video sales was still relatively new and some of the contracts with musicians and groups didn't include video use .

My cousins went to Aviation High School with Brad's girlfriend Lisa (Amanda Wyss), met her when she graduated from High school and came out to Hawaii for vacation.
When I first saw this move, I remember this part where Spicolis oddly over looks those free tasty chocolate chip cookies on the counter between him and the cashier. Being a minor pothead back in the day I would have devoured as many of those chocolate chip cookies as I could get away with.
@@AudieHolland - Agreed such a great movie! I remember back somewhere in the late 90's I was addicted to Bad Boys movie with Will Smith. And when I came across this one I was confused that it had the same name, but I remembered Sean Penn from Fast Times, so why not? Glad I gave it a chance. That was such a great movie and stayed in my memories to this day. The soda can scene is still one of the most brutal scenes I've seen!
Gotta say I dont approve of how the crook grabbed his head after he got burned. The coffee hit his head in the left side probably from the eye to the ear, but he's just grabbing his head on both sides. He's behaving like he got hit on the head by a hammer than had his face boiled by coffee. Reminds me of Monty Pythons "getting hit on the head lessons" bit from the Argument sketch.

Behind Mel Blanc and Mickey Rourke, James Russo 0:57 has the most NY accent I’ve ever heard(not this movie). He also 100% plays the bad villain in every movie. In “Extremities”(1986) I thought I was listening to Bugs Bunny!
Spicoli saved Brook Shields from drowning, blew reward money having Van Halen play at his Birthday party. You get reward money for saving someone from drowning? From who? 🤷♂️ And don't say Brooke Shields, the writer totally didn't mean her when he wrote it! 😂
Is there any way that the getaway car was Forrest Witaker's character "Jefferson?" Like maybe he needed more money to fix his car? Or buy more Earth Wind And Fire tickets?
Thats just fresh. I know. Its shocking McDonalds would serve something fresh. That's why it happens with the spilling and the burning and the Ahhh Ahh Ahhh
Billy later became a detective in Beverly Hills 😂
yeah that's true... but even more coincidental is the robber became Axel's friend in that movie that got whacked!
And the surfer became a death row inmate in Louisiana and was executed and then later helped the DEA catch the most notorious drug trafficker in Mexico
Weird, he ends up investigating this robbers death
HELL YEAH!

Only the chosen ones got it😂
Better than what the kids are saying nowadays.

Hamilton would go on to change his name to Det. Rosewood and have a great law enforcement career in Beverly Hills
And the robber became Axel Foley's best friend
And Spicolli would end up in prison where he would bash an inmates face in with a pillow case full of soda cans.
Awesome to you both
