      @Donnie Darshan - I understand your frustrations that's why at the very beginning I start by saying that this isn't an easy process and that it needs to be attempted on a system other than the one you plan on using at the end of things. Since there's always a possibility you'll run into errors. This is a general outline for people to follow for Dual Booting, not triple booting or any other combination so idk why you would assume it would just work the way shown for triple boot. Of course, there's going to be times where people run into issues, but with a fresh install of windows and parrot this will work fine for people. Of course, you can get hardware errors, but who's going to be able to work around all those scenarios. I don't know how you can say it's "the hard way". That makes no sense to me. Wouldn't manually partitioning something that you don't understand be harder than a graphical selection and something that you can clearly see for beginners? I'm sorry but I'm not following that thought process. Thanks for the feedback either way. I'll look into possibly showing manually partitioning in the future.

    Thank you so much for this video. As a new user to the Linux community, I realized there a few steps I made incorrectly but decided that after 1 failed attempt, I would watch the video and refer to the online manuals. Since I have a Thinkpad P1 Gen 2, I had no idea there were so many known issues with the NVIDIA graphics card. I loaded at startup without the NVIDIA and it all works perfectly. Do you have a video comparing the features/.differences between Parrot and Kali? Curious to understand your take (or whomever you find is not too biased of a comparison review). I am def a subscriber now!

    • @SavvyNik
      @SavvyNik  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Sandy, no problem! Welcome to Linux and glad to have you as a subscriber!! I don't have a video per se comparing the two side by side, but I do have review videos for both where I explore their unique environments.
      Kali - th-cam.com/video/zQ6jC2lHNGg/w-d-xo.html
      Parrot - th-cam.com/video/zEsJk61JZpo/w-d-xo.html
      When it comes to the foundation (base) level between the two distributions.. they are practically the same. They are both based off Debian and offer many (if not all) the same security tools. If something is missing you can always install it post. The main difference is how the desktop environments are arranged/laid out. All of the same packages, tools, and updates will be available in both since they are based on the Debian (testing) branch. When it boils down to it the reason to pick one over another is really based on which layout you like personally. That's why I suggest watching the videos above. See what you would be more comfortable using and pick one.
      In my personal opinion/experience I like Parrot OS better. I simply like the environment more, although, I do use some of the guides/docs from Kali from time to time in order to understand some of the available tools. Hopefully this helps you out, again, thanks for joining the community!

      @H4xx0rz Jackey - Thanks for the kind remark!
      It can be on whatever disk you would like. Just make sure it has unallocated space and you don't overwrite anything that may exist on the disk already. Stick to the unallocated space portions. If the disk has absolutely nothing on it you can choose to erase and install only parrot on it. Then through bios you can toggle between which disk you want to launch. Hey my friend
    I have two questions, when you do the installation, in a system without windows, the partitions phase asks you to define 3 spaces, swap, root and home,In the video it is not seen that you do that?; the other question is how do you start Linux Parrot, without disabling Secure Boot, at least not seen in the video.
    Thanks in advance

    • @SavvyNik
      @SavvyNik  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @Grover Núñez del Pino.
      - Great questions. First off you don't necessarily need swap if you have plenty of physical memory that's why I didn't create another partition with swap. You can of course create it if you want. I thought I mentioned that in the vid. You need to disable secure boot otherwise the system will try and boot Windows instead. Not sure of a way around that.

    Hey SavvyNik! First time watching one of your videos. I've installed parrot as a dual boot a few years ago (4.18 I believe) and I didn't have any issues. But this time I have encountered something weird. I have tried flashing with both rufus and balena, and I have tried both live mode and the mode for Nvidia gpus (The laptop I am attempting to install this on has an Nvidia card in it). Anyways, I get all the way through the install process, except it doesn't tell me to remove the boot drive, the pc restarts to the grub menu, I choose parrot and then after a while of sitting on the terminal login page ( the one that flashes right before you actually login) my pc shuts down and the next time I turn it on i get an error that says device not found. Any ideas? Please let me know if you need any additional info to help me out with this issue.

    • @SavvyNik
      @SavvyNik  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Justin Eckert - Welcome to the channel and thanks for posting! Sounds like the drivers for the Nvidia graphics weren't installed properly if I had to guess. I assume you did end up shutting down the computer and removing the install media anything so you can actually boot into the newly installed system? If so I think you might have to follow this guide for installing Nvidia graphics drivers: docs.parrotlinux.org/info/gpu-drivers/ also you will more than likely have to set nouveau.modeset=0 inside of the grub configuration. This will at least tell you if it's graphics related and should let you boot into the system with a failsafe for the graphics. Here's another link: askubuntu.com/questions/747314/is-nomodeset-still-required let me know where you get with it.

      If you have an Nvidia Graphics card you'll need proprietary drivers in order to render graphics properly. You can use nomodeset to initially help render the graphics for the driver install process. Some distros install these drivers for you if you go through a special install process. If you don't have Nvidia Graphics then more than likely drivers are preinstalled.

      That's because you have a MBR based bios and not EFI. This install shows EFI. I assume you have Windows on this system so what does the partition layout look for that side of things? Does /dev/sda belong to Windows or that's being created by Linux?

      The layout of partitions:
      1) Windows 10 - 500 MiB(NTFS)
      2)sda2 - 169.5 GiB (NTFS)
      3)sda3 - 100 GiB (NTFS)

    (C:) allow to shrink just 12 GB. I don't know why cuz i've a total free 308 GB in (C:).
    Then could I shrink (D:) cuz there i've 500 GB free to shrink?

      Sure, but it'd be a completely different drive without windows I would assume? So dual booting wouldn't necessarily working.

      Typically 4GB+ memory or 32GB+ storage (although you won't have much room to install things). I personally like to do 64GB+ w/ storage.

      Try booting into BIOs and see if you can set the first bootable drive too be the UEFI portion of the Windows Disk Space.

      I did that and I reboot into windows.Then it says automatic repair and later on I end up getting into the blue settings again.The Only thing I can do is go into Live Parrot .If I choose others I just end up in the blue settings.It can't be that all of my storage is destroyed becuz I followed all ur instructions and it says ParrotOs in the Free Space Disk just as u show in the video.

      A possibility. You may have selected the wrong partition and screwed up your Windows partition during the install according to what your saying you selected the proper one so hopefully it's not that. That's something that can happen if your not careful and why in the video there's multiple times you're told to backup your data before trying something like this. With that being said you can use Parrot live disk to view what is currently partitioned on your disk. Use gparted or the native disk utility to view what the disk scheme currently looks like. Maybe this will give you some insight and you can always remove the failed parrot install partition. Have you tried running the disk check from Windows? If you failed during the boot loader setup maybe there's something wrong with the efi partition and can be fixed.

      sda5 unknown
