I'm living proof of this. My husband and I were unbelievers, he had an affair, then abandoned me and our 3 children. He went to the furthest place on Earth away from us. Gave his heart to Jesus, and within weeks was on a plane home! Hallelujah! We reconciled, had another child, then I too encountered the Lord and gave my heart to Him. All is forgiven, all is well. The Lord is a healer! What you say is profound and true. The word doesn't lie. He is merciful and kind and his will supports lifelong marriage!

People ask me all the time why I won't even consider dating anyone. I tell them the Bible says it isn't ok to remarry while your spouse is still living, and mine is. Yes it gets lonely, no it's not easy, but I want with everything in me to honor God as much as possible. If His word says to do something, I want to do it. If His word says not to do something, I don't want to do it. If He is pleased for me to remain single for the rest of my days, so be it. He is God and I am not.

The Elder is %100 correct. My and Husband and I divorced. And we have reconciled.
Before he asked me to come back, I knew i wasn't going to be able to remarry. Also meaning i couldn't fornicate either.
It's hard being single and young, and I did go back into the world after my divorce. But finally, God spoke to me in a way that shook me to my core.
So i closed my legs, repented and focused on God and prayed that he would keep me.
And then my Husband, called me after a 1 1/2yr of being separated and divorced.
At first i didn't want to come back, but the Holy Spirit directed me to the scriptures again. So I prayed and fast, and now were back together.
    Praise God!!! Thank you Jesus!!!

I’m a police officer studying for ministry - Your reconciliation is a blessing TO YOU!! I am for putting the obvious in the vows - “you cheat, or abandon your marriage in heart, word, or deed by disaffection, abuse emotionally or worse lay your hands on me - yes I vow to divorce you” - I have seen horrendous cases of abuse which eventually even lead to homicide - we cannot guilt the victims into staying with these monsters or call these victims to a “gift of singleness” they clearly did not have, else they would not have married. It is a sin to condemn the guiltless (offended/ victim spouse) to enforce the law. Matthew 12:3 - 7 covers enforcing rules without mercy.
Do not condemn victims with a life sentence as they wait for the wicked to finish up their explorations of debauchery & POSSIBLY return.
Victims of abuse have also been abandoned by their spouse - and are no longer under bondage. Do not condemn the guiltless!!
Read “A Cry For Justice: How the Evil of Domestic Violence Hides in Your Church” by police officer, turned pastor Jeff Crippen.

Greg Champaign , I Totally Agree with You. I went through a horrible divorce. He left me( a Christian) for another woman. I moved on, with my children. I started a new church, and the Pastor came to my home, and told me, that I would Never be free to remarry. As a result, I quit going there. I even walked away from God. Much Later, I ended up, marrying a non- believer.
I asked that Pastor, “ Look at my two year old son, and tell me why, he doesn’t deserve to have a father in his life?”
This Teaching that the church is giving is Totally Incorrect. The Bible says clearly, that if a non believer departs, let he or she depart. The Christian has been called to Peace.
Currently, because of all of these rules, I have quit church. I am even in doubt that there is a God. It’s sad, but it’s true.
You sound like a very educated man, and I greatly appreciate your comment. Blessings to you, your Loved Ones and Your Ministry!😊♥️
Perhaps, my life would have been Very Better if there had been Pastors like you, in my past. If there really is a God, I hope that He Blesses you to the Fullest!!!😊♥️
Most people that call themselves Pastors, haven’t ever been exposed to abuse. Not the way, that you and I have witnessed it. For me, it was first hand, and he also abused my two sons, horribly! My story was a Nightmare. In my opinion, There is No Excuse For Abuse! Abusers need to be locked up. It’s so sad, because I see it everywhere these days.

These guys hit the nail right on the head. I am a guy who's wife left after 26 years of marriage. I have been watching her being turned over to sin, run through a few guys, estranged from her kids and now grand child. I would love to latch onto the wide road churches view of remarriage. I can't. Do the study, be honest with yourself and how you treat scripture. This is one of our modern day blind spots. Maybe a product of a man centered gospel? IDK, but the totality of scripture is pretty clear. It is amazing how many great bible teachers seem to fall into the modern idea that, though marriage is "representative of Christ and the Church" you can toss her aside now that she doesn't meet your conditions, is this how they see "Christ and the church"? I mean she flakes out and has an affair, well, divorce her and you are free to remarry, because your feeling were hurt and an English reading and western understanding of two scriptures trump all the others...? No, I wish I didn't believe what these guys were saying was true, but it is. I guess when Christ leaves his bride, I'll leave mine. Until then I'm going to honestly seek Him who can give the grace to stand and wait, and can give the miracle of new birth to the woman He gave me. He makes all thing new. Perhaps He won't, but let Your will be done Lord. I do honestly believe this life is a flash in the pan. One day we will be in a place where there is no sin, no tears and I pray that I can face Him and thank Him for the grace He gave me, because I won't be able to do it without that grace. All that said to those who want to surround yourselves with teachers that say what your itching ears want to hear, and they are out there, many are very sound teachers, they are wrong on this one, and our culture is not modeled a true view of Christ and the Church. I will say this also, neither divorce or remarriage are unforgivable sins, but if your in this terrible place right now, please listen to the Lord, and not the teacher that makes you feel good, or justified. It's hard, but He never said it wouldn't be and if you're a believer, and the fact that you are a believer, is proof He is the God of miracles, thank Him and don't let this cup pass, we are being conformed into the image of Him who suffered at the hands of sinners, even death.

This is a incorrect judgmental evaluation of other Christians, The very word of God allows divorce.... yes he Hates it, but he does allow it.
Therefore do not accuse your brothers of searching for teachers to suit heir itching ears. The church is the bride of Christ, the church is made up of individuals with free will and every Christian has a choice to turn away from God and follow their fleshly desires.
Christ will never leave us but he will allow that Christian to leave him, because he allows us free will and in the same way us humans if our spouse cheats and is unrepentant and wants to leave and marry someone else... what can you do? other than pray, but once they have married the new person.... are you saying you should still hold on and wait for them so you can be reconciled with them? ...... even after they have already married someone new?
You are free to divorce, if you so desire. It is not a sin to divorce an adulterous spouse. God would prefer reconciliation, so do your best to reconcile and if that fails then you are free to Divorce and/or Remarry.

      Help me with this one.
Wife (church going) left husband and moved in with her boyfriend. Wife divorced husband after 10 years of marriage and five kids. The ex-wife is now married to the boyfriend going on five years and they have one child. Ex-wife now flirts with the first husband and has asked for the first husband to have sex with her and to take her back. She wants to leave the second husband because he will not go to church with her. The first husband says that the ex-wife is in the Bible like he never knew her to be. But, he said that he would never honor her request.

@@sylviaruth5008 The wife has maybe realised her mistake in leaving the first husband and kids. The grass is only greener for a little while. She should not be asking for sex and flirting with the first husband. She sounds like the immoral woman in Proverbs 5, 6, 7. The first husband should seek God in this situation. God’s plan is usually always to restore but this wife needs to 💯 per cent repent. She does not sound like a repentant woman based on what you say but I have no way on knowing that and therefore should not judge. The husband should read ALL scriptures about marriage, divorce, remarriage for truth and guidance. The husband could also look up Rejoice Marriage Ministries. They talk about situations exactly like this one where the prodigal has left for another, remarried and had a child with that person. There is a wealth of information, devotional, videos and podcasts. God takes the marriage covenant seriously and so should we. God bless. X

@Douglas You hit the nail on the head right there. A true Christian would not commit unrepentant adultery, but there are many who are not really saved and not willing to save the marriage. If one is not willing, there is nothing the other can do. That is my situation. My ex wanted to be with someone else and I believe not really saved. They are married, but since the ex is still living, I do not feel that releases me to remarry - again the picture of Christ's fidelity to the church. Just because ex was not faithful to the marriage doesn't mean I shouldn't be.

      @tevergrace180 5 ปีที่แล้ว +44

@ymarrero23 wow- you should really take a domestic abuse class or learn about the cycle of abuse. Knowing someone for a 1year + can reveal signs that someone is an abuser but probably not because a lot of times it is the commitment and security of forever that lets an abusers guard down and they feel comfortable/secure now to abuse bc they know that their spouse is never going to leave them. It is quite apparent that you have not been married or are married by the very comment- marriage brings out a whole level of comfortability that dating can ever and you really get to know a person AFTER marriage then ever before. Marriage is SUPPOSED to be forever and Lord I wish that were the attitude of the man I married in deed (not just his word that he gave me but in action) but even God divorced Israel. obviously it is not His PERFECT will, but there are consequences to sin and NO ONE should feel pressured to stay in a marriage if they are beaten, cheated on, or abandoned. We aren't talking about 1 or both spouses carelessly marrying /divorcing. Good for you for recognizing signs and not marrying someone who likely would of hurt/abused you but that's not everyone's story and if you seriously aren't giving any grace to a spouse who was abandoned, beaten, cheated on (whether or not there were signs) WHEN God does, then I don't think you understand the Father's heart and His Word or His love for you. I may have an abusive husband who threw me out on the streets but not encountering God's love in that a real way especially to the point where you feel comfortable condemning others...I feel sorry for you and I hope to God you don't ever have to eat your own words.

The only reason some keep looking for guidance elsewhere is because they don't like what God wrote in the bible so they look for ways to make themselves feel better about sinful choices. The night I ask her to leave she went in the bed room, hit her knees and cried out to the Lord to change her, to direct her to help her be what HE wanted her to be as a wife.... after a few month me seeing the change HE was making in her I began to seek HIM as I should have before this messe we re in happened, he began to speak to me and change me into what he desired for me as a husband this resulting in full reconciliation and remarriage. I can tell you with HIS help and our work 30 plus yrs later it's never been better, submit and I mean submit to HIM, each other and do it HIS way, its absolutely possible to make it !

Wife (church going) left husband and moved in with her boyfriend. Wife divorced husband after 10 years of marriage and five kids. The ex-wife is now married to the boyfriend going on five years and they have one child. Ex-wife now flirts with the first husband (remained single) and has asked for the first husband to have sex with her and to take her back. She wants to leave the second husband because he will not go to church with her she say. The first husband says that the ex-wife is in the Bible like he never knew her to be. But, he said that he would never honor her request because she is married again and he would be committing adultery.
What is going on with the ex-wife? And, what are the rules?

Well my Husband and I have been married for 45yrs next week, I was 10 yrs married when I came to faith, as I was praying and totally ready to leave my verbally abusive husband, The Holy Spirit spoke to me and said I hate divorce, because I loved God I obeyed Him and stayed. He’s been with me through every trial every valley, every storm, every fire, and believe me there have been some. He’s promised never to leave us or forsake us, I know He never will. He will never see the righteous forsaken. Hallelujah.

As i was meditating on this matter, a couple of weeks ago the Holy Spirit said to me: 'what they do not understand is the binding.....God binds two people together, a man and woman thus becoming one body. He does not and will never bind 2 men to one woman or vice versa.' So, those who remarry, even if officiated in church, God only sees the first wife or husband..if they are still alive and no certificate of divorcement will make them disappear. This bond is not negotiable and its final and no man can tear apart that bond except through death as God instituted it. We hv been admonished not to comform to the world but be transformed from it. Let us stop listening to the gospel of devils thats so rampant in this world and return to our first love, our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ of Nazareth! Amen.

The reason why people are split on this issue is because they cannot receive what God has said. It’s pretty straight forward, yet everyone tries to find loopholes through His Word. People want to feel good about their divorce, their reasons, feel good about 2nd and or 3rd or other non marriage relationships. Nobody wants to feel convicted or shame in how they are living their life, nor do they want to do the work to try to make things right with their former or current spouses before God.

I asked artificial intelligence for an unbiased interpretation of Matthew 19:9 at face value: Here was the result: "In Matthew 19:9, Jesus provides an exception to the prohibition of divorce and remarriage, stating that sexual immorality (often interpreted as adultery) is a valid reason for divorce. The verse states, "And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery." This exception clause indicates that if a spouse engages in sexual immorality, the innocent party is allowed to divorce and potentially remarry without committing adultery. It is important to note that interpretations of this passage may vary among different Christian denominations." I am tempted to gloss over it to avoid controversy as most of the couples in my class are people in their 50s and 60s who are divorced and remarried. My wife and I are also baby-boomers but we are "first spouses" and have been married for 42 years. Over the years we have become "freaks" among many evangelical groups as more of our friends have become divorced. We are reluctant to publicly celebrate our anniversary because when fellow Christians ask us how long we have been married, they soon discover that we are still in our first marriage. "Oh, how nice" they say politely. I ask that Christians pray for me that I am able to teach this section of Matthew without creating unnecessary discord. Regardless of the outcome, I believe that all Christian leaders will have to answer for this problem at the Judgement Seat of Christ.

Sometimes you have to divorce to protect your child from someone who could hurt them. What is more unforgivable; staying with an abusive and unpredictable man to “hope” he reconciles one day, and while doing so place the child in danger? Or divorce, gain custody, protect your child, and give the child a chance to be raised by a loving stepfather who cares?
When your husband abuses you, he has chosen to abandon you. When he places you in danger, he has chosen a love for himself over a love for his family. If he chooses to drown his sorrows in drugs and alcohol, he is dead; maybe not physically, but spiritually and emotionally.
Think about what you’re saying before you condemn women who leave to give themselves and their children a safer life.

Dennis, You are not allowed to remarry. Many think that because of the “fornication” clause in Matthew you can remarry because of adultery:
"And I say to you, whoever divorces his wife, except for fornication (or uncleaness porneia), and marries another woman commits adultery (moikeia)."-Matthew 19:9
Notice that the Greek word for fornication is “porneia” and the Greek word for adultery is “moikea.” Also, please note that this “except for fornication” clause is not found in Mark 10:1-11 or Luke 16:18. This is because Matthew was writing to Jews. The Jews had a betrothal period before marriage. This was somewhat like our engagement period today.
For example, since Mary was pregnant, Joseph could have ‘put away’ his fiancée because of fornication. Notice that the Bible refers to Mary as Joseph’s wife before they were married:
Luke 2:5 To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife,
Matt. 1:20 … Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife…
The Jewish betrothal was begun with a proposal and a commitment made in the presence of witnesses. It was beyond the private promise made in modern engagements of today, and was considered legally binding.
Therefore to break an espousal in Jewish society required a legal separation - a writing of divorcement equivalent to that required of married couples.
THERE IS NO DIVORCEMENT CLAUSE FOR GENTILES BECAUSE GENTILES DO NOT HAVE BETROTHAL LAWS LIKE JEWS.
If you remarry while your spouse is still alive, you are continuously committing adultry, you can't put a band-aid of grace and continue in that sinful marriage, just as you can't continue in a homosexual marriage, because though God is aware that people do divorce and remarry others, He still does not even recognize the second marriage as valid, he instead says that the remarried are STILL committing adultry against their original spouse:
"So then if, WHILE HER HUSBAND LIVETH, she be MARRIED TO ANOTHER MAN, SHE SHALL BE CALLED AN ADULTRESS: but if her husband be dead, she is free from that law; so that she is no adulteress, though she be married to another man."-Romans 7:3
WHAT MAN HAS JOINED LET NO MAN PUT ASUNDER (SEPARATE). TWO SHALL BE ONE FLESH (Matthew 19:6).

That is why when the disciples heard the hard truth about marriage, they said that it would be better to not even marry at all (Matthew 19:9-10).
If you are remarried, you must divorce. If you are divorced only, you must stay single or wait for reconciliation with your original spouse. The only time you can remarry is if your original spouse dies.

@@adirafearsjesus7778, Yes, unfortunately they must leave that invalid marriage even though they didn't know, because as Romans 7:3 says, as long as they are married to someone who has divorced a living spouse, they both will be called adulterers. There's a video of remarried and divorced people in chambers of hell, some didn't know their spouse had divorced before, but they still wound up there. This is why we need to seek God in all matters, just like the story of how Abraham's servant asked God to help him find a wife for Isaac in Genesis 24.
Testimony of Pastor Jerry Miles Humphrey, born in 1872.
He was against remarriage (he calls it "divorce-marriage"). He was married at 19 years old to his 17 year-old wife, until his wife grew cold and wanted a divorce. So they did and He remained unmarried for 7 years until many several Orthodox men of God who knew more told him that he was free to remarry because he was innocent. So he remarried. As soon as the marriage ceremony was over, he felt wrong in his spirit. He would fast and pray for answers for months, but it was constant until it became real doubt. So he decided to live separate from his second wife for 18 months to seek God in prayer and fasting about if he made a mistake and if it was a mistake, to know how to get out of it. He was fully ready to obey God at all costs, even to the point of losing his life if he had to. And so he began to have dreams.
On April 13th, 1907, he dreamt of a minister who spoke to him the words from Isaiah 52:11, “Depart ye, depart ye, go ye out from thence, touch no unclean thing; go ye out of the midst of her; be ye clean that bear the vessels of the Lord.”
On September 28th, 1907, he dreamt of a being who said:
"There is someone in this community rejecting God-given light, and if they do not stop, God is going to send them to hell forever. He has sent me to warn them. Now you may do as you please about this matter. I have warned you, so good-bye!"
The 3rd dream was about a large white boat that represented the Bible. He was in a narrow boat/skiff which represented the "except it be for fornication" from Matthew 19:9 (the scripture that people us as grounds/excuse to divorce). His small narrow boat was being beaten up by the crashing waves until he sank into a watery grave.
In the 4th dream, "I saw myself joined arms with my second wife, walking down a wide brimstone road in hell, and as we passed a large vestibule I saw throngs of voluptuous men all dressed in black, and wearing silk hats. They were all keeping time to a band of music, and waving college banners, and singing this chorus:
“In hell at last! In hell at last!
And earth and all her pleasures past.
In hell at last! In hell at last:
For aye and aye the die is cast.”
And in front of these men were about a dozen large black swine (emblems of filth and uncleanness). And they were flopping their ears and cringing to the music. In this, God showed me that I had followed the sensual, unclean, flesh-indulging multitudes of earth, into this divorce-marriage business. At this I awoke with that awful picture burning in my brain, and that hellish music ringing in my ears."
5th sign was this, "One day, as I stood all alone in the parlor of a friend’s house, in an eastern city, (while contemplating taking up this awful cross) it seemed as though a glorified spirit descended, and sang the following chorus to me:
“Heaven is cheap at any cost,
      Do gain its ports or all is lost;
For earthly gain is only dross
And naught’s of value but the cross.”
And with this song there seemed to come volleys of exhortations from Wesley, Fletcher, Pollock and millions of glorified saints saying to me, “Gain heaven’s port at any cost”
At this he now realized he must divorce. People found out about it and tried to convince them out of their convictions to not divorce, but as he put it, "their arguments were too shallow to build on for eternity."
Then he had another dream, it was a preacher reading from a paper and said “You would be all right if it were not for that divorce-marriage.”
The last dream he had was of lightening picking him up and throwing him in a fire and the words spoke "Prepare to meet thy God". When he woke up, his bed was hot.
He was now clear in his direction, he talked to his second wife, and they finally divorced, after two years.
      He says:
"Since we did so, I feel as clear as an angel. And I am fully convinced that divorce-marriages are wrong; no matter if every preacher in the universe says they are not...I am not writing what I think, but what I positively know; and am willing to seal this testimony with my blood. I know whereof I speak. And no matter how conferences or church disciplines may rock the conscience of the people to sleep telling them they can marry while their husbands or wives live; they are wrong, and the souls whom they are deceiving will find it out when eternity is unveiled, if not before. I thank God that He kept conviction and light streaming from heaven on my soul until I walked in it, in spite of all the false comforters, who were crying, Peace: Peace: when there was no peace; but dread, fear and awful uncertainty... if you are now in one, and love your soul, and want to gain heaven, do get out of it: even at the cost of all things, or else you will regret it throughout all eternity."

This life is imperfect, filled with imperfect people who we are commanded to love and forgive in spite of the evil they commit. Nowhere however does Christ require us to restore people who repeatedly violate boundaries like committing infidelity to a trusted relationship with us. God can afford to offer them grace. God is all knowing. We are not. We are weak sinners, so we are only commanded to forgive. We cannot force a wayward spouse back, nor may we want them back depending on the circumstances. Sometimes wisdom dictates placing a boundary, and respecting their choices, but to protect the vulnerable.

So Forgiveness, required, Love, required, letting them back into your life to destroy it again potentially, not required. Reconciliation can be as simple as choosing a peaceful divorce, instead of being contentious about it. Permitting them to remain safe and housed until they are prepared to move elsewhere. Reconciliation is always assumed to be a full restoration, but that's not required, ever anywhere, because it doesn't depend on a single person in the relationship. God allows divorce because of the hard hearted offender, not the "hard hearted victim" of adultery, neglect or abuse. Divorce is also a mercy from God for the "victim" of a hard hearted spouse.
According to Scripture, God hates divorce and still made a way for his children to start over and find peace. In Matthew, Jesus is clarifying Deuteronomy 24:1. The lawyers of his time had perverted the scripture to allow for an "any cause" divorce which Jesus says is not valid. Any person marrying a person divorced for "any cause" would be an adulterer because the divorce was not valid. An often over looked scripture dealing with divorce is Exodus 21:10-11. It deals with divorce for neglect of food, clothing and sex. Abuse is nothing less than a severe form of neglect. God has never required us, as his followers, to allow ourselves to be victimized. Because he loves us, he has alway given us a way out. When one tries one's best and the marriage fails because of a hard hearted spouse, then there is no condemnation for remarriage. According to Deuteronomy 24 both parties, the victim and the adulterous spouse can remarry after divorce. Jesus didn't change that law, he only explained the answer to the question, "Can a man divorce his wife for "any cause"?"
    God's blessing and peace,

Deuteronomy 24:1-4 is very clear as was Jesus in Matthew. Is divorce Gods very best NO but then niether is judging or condeming another person. How many of those who speak of no remarry have resisted sin to the shedding of your blood. Your doctrine denies Jesus blood as suffienct which is a far greater sin .
Just think about this . Not everyone has been given gift of celibacy notice gift part here. You put people in serious jeopardy of fornication etc etc if they haven't been given this gift do you ever consider this or is being pious more important to you.

I think he said it right. That’s one of the mysteries of the Bible because it only pertains to the man. The man is the head of the household. The wife is sweet and submissive. The husband protects and cherishes his wife. But respect goes both ways. Matthew 5 Jesus said all is good in a marriage UNLESS one of them is unfaithful sexually, that’s the “out”.If a man then remarries a woman who is also divorced, it is adultery.
Why is there no example of a woman committing sexual adultery and instructions on what a divorced woman can and cannot do? Mystery of sorts.
You won’t lose your salvation or be doomed to hell because you remarry, you just gotta do it right according to scripture. Jesus said there is only one sin that cannot be forgiven which would eventually land you in the lake of fire. Adultery ain’t it. So people commenting here saying remarriage will cost your soul have not truly listened to what Jesus said. Be wise. Fast and pray.

But the Lord has brought new spouses into the lives of many divorced Christians, some have been happily married for decades, even in ministry. If he confesses the sin, God forgives❤ and he doesn't live in perpetual adultery.

@@pegc9889 Peg...Here is what the Lord has said regarding anyone who has a living spouse, divorces, and marries again while that first spouse is still living:
      1 Corinthians 7:10-11
10 But for those who are married, I have a command that comes not from me, but from the Lord. A wife must not leave her husband. 11 But if she does leave him, let her remain single or else be reconciled to him. And the husband must not leave his wife.
*** GOD DOES PROVIDE A WAY FOR THE ABUSED....ONLY TWO OPTIONS...REMAIN SINGLE OR BE RECONCLED.
      Mark 10:10-12
10 Later, when he was alone with his disciples in the house, they brought up the subject again. 11 He told them, “Whoever divorces his wife and marries someone else commits adultery against her. 12 And if a woman divorces her husband and marries someone else, she commits adultery.”
      Luke 16:18
18 Whosoever putteth away his wife, and marrieth another, committeth adultery: and whosoever marrieth her that is put away from her husband committeth adultery.
      Romans 7:1-3
7 Now, dear brothers and sisters-you who are familiar with the law-don’t you know that the law applies only while a person is living? 2 For example, when a woman marries, the law binds her to her husband as long as he is alive. But if he dies, the laws of marriage no longer apply to her. 3 So while her husband is alive, she would be committing adultery if she married another man. But if her husband dies, she is free from that law and does not commit adultery when she remarries.
      1 Corinthians 7:39
39 The wife is bound by the law as long as her husband liveth; but if her husband be dead, she is at liberty to be married to whom she will; only in the Lord.
***ONLY DEATH ENDS THE MARRIAGE COVENANT...THEN YOU ARE FREE TO MARRY, "BUT ONLY IN THE LORD."
      Third:
WHAT THE LORD SAYS IS THE CONSEQUENCE OF REMARRIAGE
( with still living Covenant spouse)
      1 Corinthians 6:9-10
9 Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: NEITHER FORNICATORS, nor idolaters, NOR ADULTERERS, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, 10 Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, SHALL INHERIT the kingdom of God.
      Proverbs 14:12
12 There is a path before each person that seems right, but it ends in death
Peg, don't be decieved...God is NOT the one who joins together anyone in remarriage adultery. The only way to be granted repentance is to quit the sin that you are asking repentance for. If your child asked you to forgive them for lying would you believe they were really sorry if they continued lying to you? No...that is not from the heart....it is not sincere.

I watched my mom try to save a failed marriage from the time I was 4 years old until they divorced when I was 28. I truly wish they had been able to save their marriage and they did make amends before my dad died at only 55 years old in 2000. She remarried and has been happy. I saw her give until she had nothing left to give. When my dad could not get his issues resolved she could not take it anymore. I know my dad was saved before he died and know my mom is now. It hurts to see two people you love with all your heart divorce...even when you are an adult. Sometimes a divorce is the only option to protect innocent wives and children from an abusive and dangerous man, or a bad mom.

I cringe to think of all of the spouses who are suffering greatly in their marriages who come across this video.
I went with a “save the marriage at all cost” mentality against an unfaithful wife for two years after the first revelation, to say nothing of a high degree of manipulation.
But sticking it out in the hopes of reconciliation from the advice of men like this led me to become suicidal.

God has worked miracles in many second marriages. I was the victim of unrepentant adultery and complete abandonment by a spouse. With no-fault divorce, one party can break the legal binding. Many people are living a very lonely single life today that was not of their own choosing. That was me 27 years ago. Today, I have been happily remarried to a remarkable, never-married Christian woman for the past 25 years. God has indeed blessed and created great good from a broken situation.

The trouble we are having is that church congregations do NOT support marriage for life any longer. The general view is that when a judge slams down their gavel, this also ends the covenant. Of course, if one considers this, it could not be further from the truth. Preachers preach marriage for life from the pulpit, but yet they allow adulterers to congregate in their church assembly, even encouraging remarriage in the majority of evangelical contexts. It is clear we are commanded NOT to company with rebellious sinners, who call themselves Christians 1 Cor. 5:11, but yet the church welcomes them into their fellowship, with open arms and some even allow them to company with the singles ministry. Church assemblies often remarry folks who's spouse is still alive. The effect of this disobedience is clearly on display for all to see. The reality is this: THE CHURCH LOOKS JUST LIKE THE WORLD. The church is supposed to be transformed by the renewing of the mind, not conformed to this world. If you track HISTORY on the matter, you will see that when the church allowed the secular courts to break up marriages and families, that clearly this was the beginning of the end of MARRIAGE as we should know it.

@@pastorshandonevangkimlaellis Let me ask you a question. Do you think that God's word applies to all of humanity or only to believers? Will all humans be judged according to Jesus' words or will some be exempt because "they didn't know or believe"?
All first marriages are joined together by God and are thus subject to Jesus' teaching on marriage and divorce whether they know it or not. If you were divorced before you became a believer, conversion does not annul your previous marriage; you remain in a one-flesh union until death.

@@pastorshandonevangkimlaellis Why does the bible consistently describe them as marriages if God doesn't recognize them as marriages then? You are extremely confused and allowing your emotions to cripple your thought process. John the Baptist lost his head for pointing out that Herod was unlawfully married to his brother's wife. Why would that matter to John or anybody else if God doesn't recognize sinner's marriages? I guess John could've saved his own life if he would've just known what you seem to know.
In any case, I've given plenty of scripture to support the view that all believers, regardless of their prior spiritual status, are to remain unmarried after a divorce or seek reconciliation. Repentance, forgiveness and reconciliation are always God's way when it comes to broken relationships and that theme runs throughout the scriptures from Genesis to Revelation.
Old things washed away and all things become new? Are you claiming that marriage covenants are "washed away" once someone becomes a believer? LOL I'm not sure how someone who calls himself a pastor could be so clueless as to think that such a ridiculous claim is supported by the word of God. I suspect that you yourself are in an adulterous remarriage and that's what's driving your desperation here to manufacture excuses for divorce and remarriage. When you stand before God, no amount of ranting or silly excuses will help you. You will be held responsible for disobeying the words of Jesus and teaching others to do so.

I'm sorry but feel quiet upset and disgusted listening to this man and some comments relating to how God doesn't approve of remarriage and how this man thinks that every marriage is reconciliable including "abusive marriages" this is the very reason I stayed with an evil abusive man who nearly killed me and my 5mth old baby because I was to scared to anger God or tear apart what he has put together and also not to feel this condemnation from Christians like that man!
I'm sorry but if you believe that a pysically abusive marriage is reconciliable then you're giving away your sisters in Christ and brothers too (some men get abused too) to be killed because you believe every marriage is from God and reconciliable!!
Some marriages are from hell and the devil himself in disguise of God, sad not everyone had discernment especially when in love, otherwise the abused in marriage wouldn't risk making those vows on wedding days.
Yes, I am a Christian, a daughter of God and He loves me regardless of divorcing this a abusive man to protect my child and I. And yes, the man I married posed as Christian, baptised and immersed in water and yes we used to go to church together and yes I prayed and fasted and trusted God to change the situation for 9yrs!!!
I don't feel guilty anymore for divorcing this man and I trust Jesus completely with whatever plans He has for my life including finding me a lovely "true" God fearing man. And. this happens, I will have my church family support me through it because they have seen my pain and loved and encouraged me through it all.
Stop preaching that it's ok to reconcile abusive couples because it's a reality people get murdered by abusive men/ women and how would that make you feel as a preacher giving someone away n finding out in a year's time or two that their partner killed them?!
Some marriages are reconciliable true but I would be careful reconciling a couple where abuse has been predominant and the abuser acts like they have changed for you to give their partner back to them.
And pls pls stop condemning people who remarry after painful past marriages, that's not the heart of God. Our God is a gracious God and He alone directs a heart. He is a good good father and where there's pain, he restores and wants He's children to be happy even if that means finding them a wonderful true follower of Christ to remarry.
Fyi, I'm a single mum been divorced 7 mths but separated nearly 3 yes and completely leaning into Jesus pressing in for comfort, love and hope for the future. Including him finding me a lovely God fearing man when my healing of the past is complete.

16 “The man who hates and divorces his wife,” says the Lord, the God of Israel, “DOES VIOLENCE TO THE ONE HE SHOULD PROTECT,” SAYS THE LORD ALMIGHTY.

So quick question here. What if you’ve found yourself by no means of your own, divorced and abandoned by a non-believing spouse. Some people that are choosing to stand for reconciliation have been doing so for years. How long should they wait before they realize that maybe reconciliation isn’t going to happen and it’s time to move on with your life. Unless you’re stander you have no idea how difficult it is to stay committed to reconciliation. It is the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life, and if I’m being honest I feel like giving up daily. You just can’t do it forever.

My spouse of more than 11 years was emotionally and verbally abusive, later confessed she didn't love me and was with me out of convenience, and she eventually had an affair, and then wanted me gone and I lost my home and marriage. I tried to reconcile when trying to stay failed. I at least still get to see my kids half of the time so I'm thankful for that. She is on relationship number three now since she left me. I understand I will never be loved again and will be alone from here on out but gets to me every now and again even if it isn't my focus anymore.

I went through a similar experience with my ex-husband. Please know that in Deuteronomy 24, you will see that divorce and remarriage are allowed, even under the old Law. It was never called adultery and nobody was ever stoned to death for it either. The whole remarriage is adultery thing is made up. Just read everything in the Bible on divorce and your eyes will be opened. Look up the original Greek and Hebrew words that were used.
In Matthew 5:32 KJV, marrying someone who was "put away" (apoluo, which = still married) and not divorced (apostacion) was incorrectly translated to "divorced" in our English Bibles, which changes the meaning entirely. It meant if you marry someone who was still married to someone else would be considered adultery; it's not supposed to mean marrying a divorce person is adultery.
"But I say unto you, That whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, causeth her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced committeth adultery."
In order to be in a marriage, both people have to be in it. If one's left it through whatever means, you can't exactly have a marriage with them anymore. If your unbeliever spouse left you, you are no longer bound to them (others seem to think it means the opposite -- that you are still bound, but it's pretty easy to read).

No. There are some scenarios that go far beyond what this group has experienced. Mine included. There are areas of abuse not touched upon here. This video presupposes a sane man and a sane woman involved in a broken marriage. God told me personally that I had a right to remarry someone else if I wanted to. I spent more than 14 years in abandonment before I was willing to hear that message from God. And that's the minor part of the story.

I look at this way we all make mistakes and God will forgive us. But remarrying when we all know its a sin after we all sin all time is just another sin added on your list. So i see it this way allow God to write your love story and dont try take control of your love life cuz your loney. Allow God fill that void u have and enjoy your singleness. Even if u have wait 30 years for God to send u your man or women than wait. You have be obedient. Im learning from other people i meet by them making mistakes and being human realizing they married the wrong person and them remarrying. They open my eyes and have me wanting stay be being patient and waiting on God to write my love story. Cuz our hearts, eyes, and lust we have will decieve us. We have to be paitent no matter old we are.😊

Well-said! I believe the ones trying to justify remarriage are just scared and do not know what it really means to trust God and to love Him because He first loved us. A covenant marriage reflects the covenant Jesus has with His Bride. That is why there are no reasons for divorce after marriage. We've committed adultery as a Body but does God say "I'm going to divorce you?" He was always making a way for Israel to reconcile herself back to him when she went astray. I am settled in my heart to remain single in this life from here on out and devote my life to Jesus, the only one I can trust to never leave me nor forsake me.

I am guilty of re-marrying after my ex-wife divorced me after our baby died 9 years after our first son died. I was a Christian then (although in hindsight weak) who loved the Lord. I soon met my wife of 22 years and we married after only 5 months. She too was divorced after an abusive marriage, although unlike me, she was not a christian. I didn't go looking for a relationship. It just happened. I sinned against God and have struggled with this fact because I know scripture is God-breathed and true. I have repented sincerely about this, just as I have about other sin in my life. However, the only way I can physically put right what I did wrong is to divorce my 2nd wife who I love so much. This also would be wrong. God has blessed us and I believe forgiven us. Yes, I know there are stronger, better people than me the worst of sinners, but God is my judge not man.

It seems that when they talk about divorce and remarriage they always forget the redemptive power of the cross of Calvary they forget about the lessons of King David Abraham Solomon and so many others who wile either married or not committed Adultery God didn't remove them from their ministry so to speak they were punished consequences but King David had a heart after god the linage of Jesus came through King David and if you are convicted of sin you repent but consequence of remarriage is your married you cant divorce then without destroying your second wife, I dont think God would like that at all, I dont see anywhere in the bible where that's ever happened I could be very wrong . If you ask forgiveness God will forgive I dont think repentance means to divorce a second wife and stay single. What I see here is is two men of God with a different [perspective talking about their theological understanding I'm not saying they are right or wrong I dont believe they are right because there are millions of Christians including leaders in the Church who have divorced and remarried at least once and some many times over.

Brother, you can only be convinced of what God would have you do in order to be right with Him by the Word of God. Since we are all responsible for our own salvation, (Philippines 2:12), it is highly beneficial to read the Word for yourselves. Don't depend on hearing the Truth of remarriage by your pastor...most are not teaching it! I used to depend on sermons to teach me too, so i never knew...until someone LOVED me enough to point out these scriptures to me showing that I was on my way to hell. These scriptures teach that if you divorced and remarried then you will go to hell for adultery unless you repent and LEAVE THE SIN:
***ONLY DEATH ENDS THE MARRIAGE COVENANT...THEN YOU ARE FREE TO MARRY, "BUT ONLY IN THE LORD
      Hosea 4:6
My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me:
      Revelation 2:5
5 Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent, and do the works you did at first. If not, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place, unless you repent.
Ezekiel 18:21-23 - But if the wicked will turn from all his sins that he hath committed, and keep all my statutes, and do that which is lawful and right, he shall surely live, he shall not die.
Proverbs 28:13 - He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.

I have a question for a Christian to answer.
I married a woman who had been married before when I was 26. She is a catholic but we didn’t have a church wedding.
I left her partly due to finding out she had left her husband for me, rather than the story she told at the beginning (that it was over regardless of me coming along). In effect, I left as I couldn’t live with her having cheated to be with me.
Is my choice to divorce her a sin? Can I remarry according to the Christian religion?
It wont stop me remarrying either way as I’m only 29 and feel like my future is still well ahead of me. I’m just genuinely curious how my countries religion perceives the situation.

In the beginning I was praying for reconcilation and for our family back together but now my heart has no feeling for her after all she put me through. wowowow!! having read all these comments...I must say that we all are still playing 'the judge'. this is the reason Jesus came to show us how much our 'intelligence or knowledge' is worthless b4 HIM.
In as much as we claim to 'protect the word of God' or say 'its in the bible' , at the end of the day God has chosen his very own. whether we do this or dont do this. He who is born of God CANNOT SIN.
The woman at the well had married 5 husbands and guess what? as far as God was concerned she was never married. even the one she was currently living with was not counted as her husband. do u think that the husband number one was her real and only legitimate husband?. Jesus tried at all times to make us know that all these LAWS are distraction. He has fulfilled them all.. Grace abounds.
when they asked Him about divorce and the certificate by moses, he said....But I say to you that everyone who divorces his wife, except on the ground of sexual immorality, makes her commit adultery, and whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery. Jesus also responded to let man know that we must see that he has a better plan in salvation and grace which saves us from the bondage of the law...FREEDOM. we are just busy arguing about what is right or wrong or what Jesus said or didnt say and we are rili missing the whole point of jesus saying all these thing.
all these arguments stemmed from the fact that the ppl argued and tried to test jesus to know what he will say.
they asked HIM about fornication and adultery, trying to be smart..heres what jesus told them.. even when u look at a woman lustfully u have already committed adultery. They never saw it that way. they always tot its only when u actually have intercourse. but God is saying.."you think you are wise?" even when u look lustfully.
this is not to say that Jesus had set a new rule that also says looking lustfully is sin.. yes it is sin by His standards but who will stand before him pure giving all his standards..even stndards we never knew existed. NO MAN CAN STAND. therfore Jesus is saying you think u know it all? now u have seen that ur righteousness is filthy.
Stop this arguement and stop trying to "uphold the law' He does not need our help.
when ever you feel compelled to do something and if u dont theres a punishment awaiting you or you feel guilty about something cos you are in the fence about your conscience, it means you have truely not accepted grace and you are still under the law. with the law you are not free. Salvation is freedom.
Having said that, God has the final say and judgment on all and he is god of justice and fairness and grace. you cannot be on the fence about what to do when u are in an abusive relationship. @Nell Renee you have not been abused b4 so it is very wrong for you to say " the bible says NO DIVORCE NO DIVORCE..", you have not be raped by a husband b4, so you have no clue. You think God will not be fair and just in his judgment to his very own creation? and would cast her away bcause she left her husband? the God we serve is kind and graceful.
Evangelist John reed honestly it might sound like oh your being attacked, but theres a higher level of understanding that God gives to pple that others might not understand. most times its hard to explain unless the holy spirit does the work. Its not ur job to explain as they may never get. with time pple begin to see things if God permits. Evg John actually has spoken the right words and it will take silence and inner understanding to get it. its not by " oh the bible says this or that." this is exactly what the pharisees did bcos they felt they knew it all and each time they tested Jesus, Jesus opened up more can or warms to make them see they were just being babes.
see the story of the woman that committed adultery and was to be stonned, see the story of forgiveness 70 times 7, see the story of "if someone slaps you, turn the other cheek'
Gods ways are not mans ways....plz guys relax and stop playing God or playing the interpreter of his word. REST IN HIS FINISHED WORKS men.. JUST REST. he is God and will do what he wills. JUST REST.

Jennifer McClure---If your husband is beating you or if you feel like you can't take the verbal abuse or you feel like you are dying inside, you need to get away. You need to go to a safe place, and not tell him where you are going (probably needs to be a place he doesn't know about). If you don't have a place to go you could call the Salvation Army and they may be able to help or a domestic hotline. It doesn't matter if he likes it or not, I wouldn't probably wouldn't tell him, but leave when he wasn't home. I want you to be safe, and not to get hurt. Pray if G-d wants you to get a divorce or not. Only you can make that decision, (you can get counsel though). I pray right now that G-d would speak to you and give you guidance in what you should do after you leave in Jesus's name!!!!! I pray peace and healing to your soul!!!! Amen and amen.

What would you say about a situation where two believers separated and divorced on biblical grounds but neither remarried but one stayed single and the other was in a relationship with an unbeliever were they lived with eachother, had children and then split up. Can the two believers be reconciled?.

@@jasminejoy5074 Are you pleased with the love you now have? Has God blessed the marriage? People seem to confuse love with Pleasures of the flesh which is what the married couple are allowed to do with each other only. Jesus fulfilled the law! Law is not as important as love! " Marry and become one and populate the earth." Kinda hard for singles and unmarried to do as God commanded... Love is the answer!

Hi..I just so happen to see this. I just wanted to say I understand what the Bible says about divorced. I never wanted to get divorced. I tried to hold on to my marriage, because I took the vows seriously. However, I was going through emotional, verbal and mental abused. Until, I found myself walking on pins and needles etc. He was okay with that. Couples go through stuff. Until, I cried out to God. He didn’t want any help. I file for divorced four years ago. He remarried quickly. I stood single not dating. I love Jesus and will continue to do His work..With all that said I forgave him. Wish him well. I did have hope he would change and we could’ve started fresh. My thoughts weren’t God’s thoughts. Amen

One thing come to my mind from reading most of these comments!. Do not underestimate God's power of forgiveness and unending love and Mercy. We are but humans. He is Sovereign! He can make something beautiful our of ugliness. He knows we are human and will make mistakes hence he provided His Mercy. I dont think God will cast you to hell because out of your human nature you couldnt keep an earthly marriage, maybe because of adultery or physical or mental abuse. If we genuinely seek him he is faithful true to wrap us in his arms. Genuine repentance with a pure heart wins God's Heart!. Let's all never stop asking God for His mercy. They are new every morning!
