Yes, I realize additives are usually just a temporary fix, but after seeing this same procedure fix a 2011 Silverado 2500 transmission which went out completely, and is still going to this day two years later, I figured it would be better to get more life out of the transmission before replacing it.

2013 Ford Explorer Limited with approx 112K. A few weeks ago I began experiencing a shudder when traveling between 30-50mph. Initially thought it was a bad coil pack so I replaced all coil packs and plugs. Still having the shudder. I watched this video, followed it exactly and used the exact same lubricants. HOLY COW!! Almost immediately the shudder disappeared, I felt it very lightly for a few more days but it is 1 week now and my Explorer is shifting perfect and smoothly once again. Thank you for making this video and explaining the repair perfectly. Daniel great job, extremely helpful and solved my problem too!

My 2015 was shuttering between 10 & 40 mph. Studied issue on TH-cam. This video convinced me to try the fluid change. Conflicting videos recommended 1-3 fluid changes to cycle all out. I decided to split the difference. On the 2nd fill up, I included the motorcraft friction modifier additive. Thru the first couple hundred miles, it has never rode or shifted better than now. Shutter is gone. Thank you!!!

@quintoncobb6381 I did exactly what he said in the video and here it is three months later, and the issue never came back. The transmission literally drained 4 quarts. I added the Lucas additive for transmissions and topped off the transmission fluid. Drove it on the highway and the shutter was gone that quick.

I never usually leave comments but I have to give you you’re credit my guy! I experienced the same thing in my 2016 Explorer so I took it to the dealership and they diagnosis it as an issue with my torque converter and say to replace the entire transmission. Tell me it’s gonna cost $9,000 to fix 😭. I said HELL NAHH! Found your video and did exactly as you said and the issue seems to have gone right away. I’m not the best under the hood either but this has definitely boosted my confidence lol. Cost me like $120 for everything from auto zone and a Saturday afternoon. A lot better than $9,000. I might start changing my own oil now too 😂 Thanks man fr. 💯

I just got a letter from Ford a few days ago. Though they didn't issue a Recall, they extended the warranty on some Fords for the Transmission Control Module. My car is 10 years old (a 2013) My dealership changed mine today & it fixed my problems, all at no cost to me. It was shuddering, hesitating, etc. The warranty on these vehicles is effective through 6/30/25. If you're still having problems, I suggest calling your local dealership about it. The warranty (pretty much a Recall) number is 14M02.

Daniel, thank you! I had that exact same problem about shuttering in 3rd and 5th gear under acceleration. In the Ford dealer they told me that I only could change the transmission to get the problem fixed. Bastards! I just changed the transmission fluid and added first the lucas additive stop slip version you said in this video, and my car started to run perfect after 30 minutes driving. I fixed the problem with 75 dollars instead of thousands that could have cost to change the transmission. My 2014 Ford Explorer was shuttering since it had 52000km on the clock and I did the fluids change when I saw this video, with 68000km. I hope more people with the same problem watch this video, becuase I can guarantee, this solution works! And really I don´t know why because I am a software programmer and don´t have any mechanical background, but it really works. Thanks again Daniel

Hey there I have a 2016 Ford Explorer. When my SUV Is in drive or reverse, it has the vibrating issue. But when it’s in neutral or park it’s literally makes no noise. Was this something similar you were having.

@@theblackknight9783 Not for me. I experienced a "Stutter" which felt like a dirty fuel filter when in drive, at low gears. I kept on thinking it was the fuel system. And mechanics felt the same, wanting to change coils and a million other things. The video convinced me to spend rather $175 (transmission oil change at Valvoline) instead of $1750 thinking they can fix it. That being said, it does completely sound like your transmission might be the issue ... I say it because as soon as you engage the transmission (forward or reverse), the shutter is there. In park there is nothing ... this was similar for me ... no stutter in park. Hope this makes sense, at least a little. Good luck.

Mine was full of road grime and really hard to find. For others that can't see well, go to the "Ford" logo and look to the right. It is low and behind the air intake and radiator hose. Also it is a cap not a dipstick. :)

Just a warning to all, if you remove the air box, make sure and put it back together before starting it up! Im defs not a wrencher by any means and while this video was super helpful, I started it up with the air box off for ease of access to the cap/dipstick….yikes!! Threw all kinds of codes, shifted into gear REALLY HARD, and made it VERY angry!
Replaced the box, cleared the codes, and ALL GOOD.
ALMOST INSTANTLY better! Since I bought this used, it’s running better than it EVER has!!

It did that because when you took the air box off, you probably unplugged the mass airflow sensor and it will do exactly as you described. I bought a 2015 Taurus that did that, so I got it pretty cheap. Found the plug wasn't fully seated and when I pushed it fully in, it was perfectly normal acting

I had this exact same problem, my explorer is a 2014 with 77k miles. I took it to the dealer thinking it was the throttle body which was supposed to be covered under the warranty. They told me they weren’t going to replace it under the warranty and that it’s $150 for the tech to put his computer on it to see if he could figure out what was wrong with it. It doesn’t have any codes so they told me that they can’t promise anything. I said “NO WAY” to that and kept searching for answers. I’m glad I found this video. I did exactly as the video shows and then took it out for a drive it shuttered very little for the first five miles but it’s been perfect after that. it’s now a week later and still going strong. In fact, all the specialized workshops were not able to identify the problem even after the computer examination process. Unfortunately, one of the workshops asked to change the gearbox!!! I was inspired by your experience that the oil must be checked and found it smells bad, and that it must be changed, and this is what happened, but without the treated substance, only LV oil. Finally the problem disappeared completely!! One last note, the oil was found to be missing and smelly, but not burnt.

We have been having this problem with our 2014 Explorer. Mostly on the lower gears while accelerating slowly. Oddly, if you accelerate quickly, it does not seem to happen. We have a close friend with the same vehicle (2015) that seemed to have the same issue, after several repair shops could not fix the issue, I believe it was AAmco that said the transmission needed to be replaced....and almost $5000 later her problem was solved...lol I'm going to try this idea before I spend that kind of money. My Explorer has about 130,000 miles on it. Regardless, transmission replacement should not be necessary at this mileage or age of vehicle....but that's just me.

Great video, Thank you for posting. I had been trying to diagnose the same issue for some time with no success - you had the solution to my problem! I did use a different additive - I used the Lucas Oil Automatic Transmission Conditioner instead of the Stop Slip. Otherwise I followed the exact process. The shuttering issue was completely gone by the time I backed out of the garage.

Just so you know. To properly change the transfluid you need about 13 quarts. The trans doesnt fully drain from the bottom plug. It only drains about half the fluid. The correct procedure is to drain and refill 3 times with around 4 quarts. With driving done in between. For anyone who does this in the future. Put that additive in at the last refill. Cheers.

if you just unscrew the plug the amount in this video is how much comes out, what you are talking about can be done with a trans flush machine, but this is just a transmission service performed in the video not a full flush changing all the fluid, theres no need to change all the fluid unless its super dirty or your just rich and have the money to waste, because I've done this on multiple vehicles and the trans functions like brand new after a few hundred miles of driving on all of them.

    • @CofFDnSnaps

@@calvin4319 its not about being rich. Plus doing the flush service at a shop is way more expensive than just the fluid needed for a service. That full exchange should be done at every 100k miles or so unless you drive in heavy duty conditions like heavy start/stop or towing. Then its sooner, like 70k. It says it in the manual. If you look at the transmission fluid capacities, there is as much as 13qts of oil. Exchanging only a 1/3 of the fluid isnt really enough.

Two weeks after I got it back I started feeling this shudder especially when shifting from 2nd to 3rd. I was convinced I was going to now have to rebuild the entire trans and replace the torque converter to the tune of several more thousands of dollars. The mechanic who did the timing chain job told me to add Instant Shudder Fixx and even gave a tube of it to me for free off his shelf. Added it in the parking lot. Drove it for 15 mins and the shudder completely went away. Permanent fix? I think it depends on what's goin on inside. I have a Volvo with 150,000 miles. transmission fluid never changed thanks to dealer stating its a lifetime fluid and they wont do it. I used a Valvoline recommendation for the fluid and the car banged into all gears when cold. My assumption was it was too thick or the car was done. I replaced the fluid with a Castrol brand specifically for Toyotas that had high miles as most older Volvo's had Toyota ASIN transmissions and the banging was nearly gone! But it did not feel right when cold. So I added Lucas and it helped 50 percent. Car is nearly back to normal. Reason I changed it was becuase I heard a loud wine and I knew damage was occurring. What I gathered was the Valvoline is too thick and dose not flow well like Volvos/Toyotas thinner fluid that flows faster. Since the transmission was neglected signs of wear happened after the change but the Lucas I added combined with the CORRECT viscosity Castrol high mileage transmission fluid helped seal up some of the worn internal seals. From now on I Change my fluid every 50,000miles in all my cars no exceptions

My 2013 Ford Explorer 3.5L V6 started to have problems around 155,000 miles. Then a few months later the shudder was getting scary! It would happen around 3rd and 5th gear. Anyway, after reading every forum about this problem, someone said, add a 2 ounce bottle of Lubegard Instant Shudder Fixx. I was skeptical because after all it feels like a mechanical problem. I'm sure it is a mechanical problem. But, trying to save money and to delay the inevitable TC replacement, I added the 2 ounces of the fixx potion. I drove around a few miles and most of the shudder was gone and then saw much smoother/better shifting. In the end I believe that NOT changing out the transmission fluid every 30K will lead to these problems. The auto mfrs need to stop with the BS about "lifetime fluids". Lubricants breakdown and need periodic replacement to extend the life of the vehicle! My Explorer at 163, 000 miles now. The shudder is mostly non-existent at this time. Let's see how it is in the next few months!

@@peterm474 you could try an adaptive relearn reset for the powertrain. I believe all 2013 to 2019 Taurus's have a 7.5 amp fuse in the engine bay fuse box. Pull that fuse out and leave it out for 15 minutes. Turn the car on and let idle for 20 minutes so the throttle body can relearn base idle. Next let idle for 1 minute with the AC on. Finally take the car for a test drive and get a good mix of city and highway driving.
In the event of transmission shudder it could be a bad torque converter. But in my opinion I'd rule out as much as possible like changing the spark plugs and sometimes the PTU can cause a lot of play in the driveshaft and cause shudder. Lastly could be a bad set of motor mounts causing the powertrain the have more noticeable vibrations, just my opinions.
