Cool episode to add to the series, Jose! My memory of the HOF induction? "JPJ wins the night. Robert: get that guitar out of your hand....what a joke. Neil Young get off the stage. Jimmy: not looking particularly healthy or comfortable." Robert is a brilliant singer, and his contribution to Led Zeppelin is unarguable. But Robert is also an emotional diva, a name dropper, and prone to emotional takes that border on petty and vindictive. JPJ is a consummate pro, classy at all times. TY Jose. Ernie

Thanks to TH-cam I've recently watched the R&R Hall of Fame footage of Zep. First thing that came into mind was what in the blue blazes is Plant doing with a guitar with Jimmy and Neil there? It was one of the cringest moments I've ever seen. I just thought it's like that kid that just learns to bend saying "Look what I can do" and Jimmy looking like "Awww Nice one Percy," while Neil is going ape shit which I personally LOVED! It's surreal.
Lastly, JPJ. Have to say I've developed mad respect for the guy. JPJ is one of the top bassist there is. When Plant is being a horse's butt accepting the award, JPJ is just class with one of the best barbs EVER!

And now it's a trip back to 1995! I started off the year by graduating from Marine Corps boot camp in San Diego, having bought the Page & Plant No Quarter album at the PX on the recruit depot a few days before on Visitor's Sunday. I listened to it on the flight back to Texas, and it spent pretty much that whole year as a permanent fixture in my Walkman. I didn't get to see the HOF induction, as I was in a bit of a black hole from any live goings-on at that time due to being in the military, but heard about everything that transpired a while after. And I, of course, bought the Encomium album shortly after it came out. STP's version of Dancing Days was of course a great track, and I was particular to the Helmet and David Yow cover of Custard Pie (I was a big fan of both Helmet and The Jesus Lizard at that time). The US release of that album did NOT have Mana's cover of Fool in the Rain, which is an absolute shame as it's an excellent rendition of the song. It was only years after the fact that I was able to hear it. Overall, I thought it was a good tribute to Led Zeppelin, but none of the covers supplanted my love for the originals. The Nativity in Black tribute album to Black Sabbath still remains my favorite tribute album of all time (the first one, not the second). Anyways, loved this episode, and can't wait for the next!

After watching the entire series starting with the ITTOD, I’ve almost forgotten about the Led Zeppelin doc that apparently no one wants to distribute or maybe was privately caboshed by the band.
It’s just too bad that egos got in the way of a reunion. 1995 to 2000 would have been the right time to do it. A part of me feels like Zeppelin owed the United States a final tour because the US made the band.
They say that time, and enough money, can heal wounds. But I’m this case it does not. Dan Rather got the closest to getting Plant to divulge the real reason why the band never reunited, but still couldn’t break through Plants wall.

Man, that documentary is really collecting dust as they say, hope it BECOMES something you know? I wanna see it. I agree with you 1995-2000 was the right time, they had the physical ability for it. Imagine a full circle tour with Jason 1999-2000 with a final show at Oakland Coliseum, we can deam. Money can't heal wounds i agree. Rather was rather polite in his attempt. Plant could open up if maybe Alison Krauss conducted the interview! Thank you very much for watching! I don't have enough of a working knowledge to comment on the friction within Zep, but my initial observations are the JPJ is the greater man during such proceedings as the hall induction. Sure, money is always a factor but it wasn't THE factor for JPJ's exclusion. Robert has never sought to reform Led Zeppelin, which is essentially what Page/Plant would become if it were to include JPJ. Further proof that JPJ was excluded to appease Robert is that when Page & JPJ with Jason did reform in 2008 he flatly declined to be involved. Consequently, that lineup quietly dissolved after holding a few unsuccessful rounds of private auditions for a singer.

People has tendency to put meaning to everything. As a musician, JPJ is superb in my opinion. But he should not have done what he did. Why would he feel left out when Robert invited Jimmy for that MTV project? The project was offered to Robert. Jimmy needs more help than JPJ at that time. Robert said at one of their interviews "Johnsy don't need us because he still has his wife." Robert stopped doing drugs when he lost his son. But Jimmy didn't.

I believe that the other remaining members of led Zeppelin treated John P Jones as " just shut up and play bass or do what ever is expected of you " attitude. I think Page and Plant had very little respect for JPJ as a person . They could have called him and said something when they formed and did "No quarter".

This was one of the main reasons i worked on the 1990s series, to bring some justice to Jones' side of the story you know? The decade was a great lost opportunity for a proper reunion or collaboration i believe. Thanks for watching!

Thank you (no pun intended haha) for another great episode. My thoughts after this one were that I dont think Page and Plant wanted JPJ on any of the unledded stuff including the tours, the reason I thought, was obvious in the Hall of fame induction jam. It was VERY Zeppelin, and I think Page and particularly Plant wanted to get away from the "Zeppelin" association they would have had with JPJ and even worse, Jason with them. I feel they wanted a new fresh approach to their musical journey. If you add JPJ and Jason to Page and Plant, you get 90% Led Zeppelin.
Of course I would have loved to have seen what they could have done had they gone that way, but clearly its not what they wanted, but clear it was what JPJ and Jason may have expected when you read between the lines. As always they did what they wanted and not what the fans wanted, BUT did give them enough to keep us all interested.
The exclusion of JPJ and JB must have been a bitter pill to swallow especially for JPJ, but then maybe the plan to do something like the London 02 show was always going to be in the pipeline.....we'll never know, but it really is very interesting looking at all this and trying to put the pieces of the puzzle together.....

    • @JCM-LedZeppelin-Stories
      @JCM-LedZeppelin-Stories  ปีที่แล้ว +1

Hey Kev! Pun is alright hehe. I understand what you mean the main problem with the "fresh sound" thing is when you look at how the Unledded tour morphed into Zeppelin and as much as they had the best intentions, it was inevitable. I hope my next episode on the tour explains it. Trust me, i've tried to understand this and yeah i get No Bonham NO Zepp...still the dismissal of JPJ to date is strange. Ahmet Ertegun probably left a will signed by Plant of HAVING to perform when he died lol. It was really a miracle that 2007 gig right?

I understand. The next episodes will make sense to my analysis. Remember i am a musician too with a great attention to the human side of things. If i just present the events like they've been covered a hundred times it misses some of the creative side. The main problem with the 1990s is the DRAMA that happened. Real Journalism requires you getting immersed in the good and bad. We can't revisit history with nice colors only. Covering a decade of events is tough. I take my time to present the facts and opinions unlike Professor of Rock who i can tell has a team who "polishes" the stuff so it's nice and tidy :) i hated his video on All My Love and decided to do my own take thus the channel was born hehe. I've gotten backash for defending JPJ which...kinda proves the point. Maybe one day bass players/ multiinstrumentalists will be seen with the importance they deserve. Singers are like Presidents...smiling and causing drama lol.

I guess I didn't see that induction. I was busy making my own music in '95. All acoustic. So Robert was a dick through part of that phase? Guess the ego took over. Right on, Uncle Neil and Joe Perry. Right on, Robert, strapping the axe. I'll check it out on YT. Great set list, btw.
Oh, and I was a Jordan fan, too. Wasn't into any sports by the 90's but my buddy said I had to watch him. Well, that started an NBA obsession. Kobe Bryant took up the torch, imo, so I tracked him the whole way through.

neil young was killing it. yeah, page and plant needed jones on the bass. i feel sad for jason not getting to play that last song. i was 14 when "encomium" came out. i liked the cuts by stp, duran duran, tori amos w/ plant, and sheryl crow (despite my disdain for her) but i couldn't get into the rest of it and oh my god. the version of "misty mountain hop" by 4 non blondes is probably one of the worst things i had ever heard in my entire life. linda perry is better off as a songwriter. at that time, i was listening to zeppelin, the beatles, the stones, pink floyd, and a lot of classic rock but i was also balancing it with the music of the times in NIN, nirvana, foo fighters, pearl jam, and the red hot chili peppers. now my music taste is more insane than ever except for today's music which just absolutely sucks.

Plant called JPJ their "secret weapon". And he was.
Problem with Zep is, unlike any other band (the closest would be Van Halen---they had the best frontman and guitarist "of all time")...Zep had the greatest frontman of all time, the greatest guitarist of all time, and the greatest drummer of all time. JPJ is the greatest bassist of all time....not just because of his bass, but that and everything else the man did behind the scenes.

Regarding Robert’s RRHOF speech, one must have some context. At that time, it was encouraged that inductees be a bit “irreverent” and thus many of the speeches of the late 80’s to kid 90’s were a bit flippant. I think is due to the fact that there was a sense that it was a bit ridiculous then to put (then still vital) rock music in a hall of fame.
