    I noticed a few potential issues with the desktop 5-axis machine in the video. It has an obvious lack of rigidity, which means it can only handle soft materials like plastics and wood, and the work area seems quite small. The use of proprietary encoders and what looks like a less-than-optimal controller raises concerns for supporting 5-axis movements and robust simultaneous roughing cycles. As someone who works with 5-axis machines, these aspects make me apprehensive. I appreciate the effort to make 5-axis technology more accessible, but there are significant areas for improvement. I hope I'm proven wrong and that it performs better than it appears.

      Honestly for the size i'd say this is definitely better than everything that has existed up untill now. Keep in mind its the size of a 3D printer. I doubt this will have a spindle over 1kw, its more a small prototype machine than a production machine.

    • @tijnstarr
      @tijnstarr 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      That's definitely not true what you're saying - it's not going to be a machine that you can use competitively to mill steel fast enough. However, the way it is built it will be very stable and have enough inertia to mill aluminum and various steel alloys, of course not at the speeds of a professional industrial machine but for a watchmaker or a design office or a small private workshop this machine is an absolute dream. Take a look at the Pocket CNC machine. In the end, this machine here is a blatant further development and with the Pocket cnc you can also achieve amazing results in steel.

    I keep hoping something like this becomes available at a price point that makes sense for hobbyists and home-based users. That's the obvious market for a mill like this. I suppose in limited circumstances (watchmaking? or precision instruments?), one could be used for light manufacturing, but let's be honest, with/ a 100x100x100 build envelope and what looks to be a limitation to aluminum, plastic, wax, and brass, its use in a "real" manufacturing environment is limited. Maybe protototyping, but at that point a sub-$300 SLA printer can produce prototypes in no time at all w/ out the need to learn cam/machining. In the hobby/home market, you've got to be sub $10k and ideally in the $5k realm. This looks very nicely designed, if not slightly overly complicated for its size/use, so I'm curious to see the price point. I could use a mill like this for what I'm doing (brass, nickel silver, aluminum), but I'd need to see an insanely attractive price point to give up my current sub-$5k 5-axis mill (Taig), as all I'd really be gaining is an ATC and some automation.

    • @testi2025
      @testi2025 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I import and sell similar machines (not going to say the brand out of respect) and there is a genuine market for these in biotech, electronics and prototyping. And schools love these since they can teach 5-axis machining without buying a 200k machine that every on is then afraid to touch. We had one customer who needed to machine a spiral groove to a 2mm hole using a 0,5mm ball end mill, would be difficult with a standard 5-axis machine since you need about 50000rpm.

    • @AlitaGunm99
      @AlitaGunm99 8 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@testi2025 You can get a Haas CM-1 with 5 axis, 36 tools, probing, high-speed-machining codes, and a 5HP, 50,000RPM spindle for under $150K. You can move it with a pallet jack, and run it on single phase 220 volt. I have two in my garage, one 5 axis, one 3 axis. I use them for Titanium medical device parts. This machine is so much more limited; slow toolchanges, few tools, smaller work envelope, limited rigidity, it's really aiming at the high-end hobby market. It needs to be priced appropriately for that. Edit: Looks like they're aiming for around $10k; I think that's an appropriate price for what this is.

Siemens? How big of a workpiece does it support? How big and heavy tools can it support? What would the precision be on something like this 0.2mm or 0.005mm? This got me a bit excited 😅.

    Forget about all the guys from 1980s asking for flood coolant... is there provision for MQL? Since this is horizontal, chip collection in the bottom (via suction) along with MQL will be more than sufficient. Also, is this rigid enough to cut titanium (give realistic expectations of speed, of course)? Lastly, I assume it requires proprietary cutters? Seems like you will need identical shaft diameters for the ATC. Is your company's primary revenue source "consumables"? Thanks!!
