  • The first Best Team for Sinnoh was done with Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum all in mind. Then, with the remastered team, I decided to do Platinum only. I am now aware that this means I have never done a Best Team for only Diamond and Pearl. So today, that is what I'm bringing you. Which creatures from Sinnoh ended up making this long overdue Best Team? Guess you'll just have to watch and find out!

    So Sudowoodo is here because I didn't want to get 1 specific Pokemon on the team for 1 gym leader. Luxray doesn't do all that great on the board. Grass types are only good for a few battles then thats it. Also keep in mind that, this isn't a team of the 6 ABsolute best pokemon. I build these teams with synergy in mind and I felt Sudowoodo was a great filler spot for the last 1. I also like the diversity it has and I wanted to do something new so if you wanna yell at me that's fine lol. Roserade is a great Pokemon I just feel I wanted to take a different approach.

      You should've used gastrodon since gastrodon and infernape cover each others weaknesses. That way if you replace gyarados with gastrodon you'll have two ground types but less weaknesses since it's only weak to one type.

    Okay, this was another good team you put together. Nice work, as always. Glad I joined the premiere. Looking forward to more alternate starter best teams in the future. I'll also check out Mystic Zora soon. Keep up the great work! :)
    Edit (9/8/20): Did a little research, and found that Bronzor will be at Level 15 when you catch it on Route 206, meaning it will probably have Hypnosis already on there, so a Heart Scale for it won't be necessary. Also, you can catch Bonsly on routes 209 and 210 in Pokemon Pearl, along with finding it in the Trophy Garden.
    Edit (9/8/20): One more thing, catch a Bonsly with the ability Rock Head, and you won't have to worry about the recoil from Wood Hammer because Rock Head prevents recoil damage.

Simply because the recoil can be a big issue for in-game usage, but then again maybe Flare Blitz is necessary to deal with Lucian's Bronzong (good thing he has Levitate and not Heatproof). Shadow Claw and Close Combat are great choices which I won't change. I'd honestly go so far as to give him Grass Knot over Stone Edge. We need Gastrodon, Quagsire, and Whiscash coverage, and Sudowoodo is slower than all three.
    Staraptor I won't change at all. I personally prefer Gastrodon over Gyarados due to its much better special attack, but I like this moveset.
    Garchomp I would give Rock Slide or Brick Break over Fire Fang.
    Instead of Bronzong, I would find Mr. Mime way easier to use, with access to Thunderbolt for Gyarados coverage and an amazing special attack. Great for Maylene, Crasher Wake, Fantina's Drifblim and Gengar, all the Golbats and Croagunks of Team Galactic, Cyrus's Honchkrow and Gyarados (may not be able to outspeed his Crobat and Bite though), Flint's Infernape and Drifblim, and Cynthia's Roserade.
    And instead of Sudowoodo, I'd like to use Drapion. I wouldn't level up a Skorupi to get one though, I'd try to get him through the Great Marsh daily Pokémon. If that's possible, I think he's a great choice to fight Fantina as well. With Crunch and X-Scissor, I think he'd do pretty well especially against Candice and Lucian. Against Cynthia, he resists most of Spiritomb's attacks and all of Roserade's. Thunder Fang to deal with Cyrus and maybe even for Gyarados coverage. If I got a Sniper Drapion, then Cross Poison is worth it. Otherwise, Fire Fang for Aaron.

    @AustinBlandford316 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Huh, Sudowoodo and Gyarados are pretty interesting choices. Honestly, I would throw rock slide on Garchomp instead of Fire Fang, but that is also a really good option for it. Overall, I'm pretty impressed with the differences the team has, plus I just love the fact you threw in Sudowoodo.

    Sudowoodo can have the ability Rock Head in Generation 4, which makes it so that recoil moves don't do recoil. This is really good for Sudowoodo, since Mystic decided to give it Wood Hammer. So it gets a good counter for rock, ground, and water types, such as Wake's Quagsire, without taking any recoil damage.

    I always find using Staraptor to be stupid since its main selling point is Close Combat. Infernape can deal more damage with Brick Break than Staraptor with Close Combat. Using Crobat always seemed like the more sound choice since you also get a poison coverage with Poison Fang and later on Cross Poison. Also, Gyarados? I think Floatzel or Gastrodon would be the better choice here. They get Ice Beam, a stronger attack than Ice Fang. Gastrodon's Water/Ground typing also helps because it removes all the overlapping weakness it shares with Garchomp. I love your inclusion of Bronzong, but I think Steelix would be the better option here. It has higher attack and defence, but its special defence is lower. The attack output more than makes up for it though. I know it's another ground type, but I need to mention that there aren't any weakness overlap between the three. Lucario should also be considered since it can be a special attacker with Psychic, Aura Sphere, Flash Cannon, and whatever coverage you need. The steel type negates the psychic and flying weakness it would've shared with Infernape, although it is weak to ground. A rock type does nothing there. The types it beats are already covered by the Pokemon I've covered above. You're better off using a psychic type there like Alakazam or a ghost type like Spiritomb. Honorable mentions go to Gliscor, Scizor, and Gallade. Each of them can easily fill a spot in the team.

    Infernape is a pretty basic way to pronounce Empoleon.

    • @FraserSouris
      @FraserSouris 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Empoleon lacks the firepower and versitaility of Infernape. Plus there are plenty of water types in Sinnoh that can fullfill its niche well (like Gastrodon and Gyrrados) but few that can cover as well Infernape does. Water/Steel is a great defensive typing but the most common offensive types are electric, fighting and ground, stuff that Empoleon is already weak too.

    • @FraserSouris
      @FraserSouris 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Nick Cruz Mystic made a video for Empleon and Platinum specifically. His picks were Staraptor or Crobat as your flier, Roserade to deal with Water types, Galade for offence, Houndoom to cover Ghost and Psychic types as well as being a good fire type Pokemon, and Mamoswine

    • @FraserSouris
      @FraserSouris 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Nick Cruz For Roserade, are you using special type attacks and investing its EVs accordingly? Because Roserade's SP Attack is great at 125 and its SP Def and Speed are good too. There's a reason that in D/P competive it was in OU. Its only real weakness is that it's physcially frail.
      Here's the quote from Smogon on it:
      >"Roserade is, hands down, one of the best Toxic Spikes users in OU. It can easily dispense Toxic Spikes in the lead position thanks to Sleep Powder, which allows it to neuter opposing leads, and it decent Speed stat. While Roserade is usually seen as a Toxic Spikes user, it can also be employed as an exceptional offensive Pokemon. It has access to two powerful STAB moves in Leaf Storm and Sludge Bomb, can allow it to successfully run either a Life Orb or a Choice Scarf set. On top of this, it is also an excellent Spikes user and can use a SubSeeding strategy to stall out the opposing team.
      However, Roserade is very physically frail, so most powerful physical attacks will KO it. Priority moves, such as Extreme Speed and Bullet Punch, will often spell doom for Roserade as well. Additionally, its Grass / Poison STAB combination is resisted by many common Pokemon, such as Heatran, Scizor, and Jirachi, and so it must rely on a Hidden Power type to cover all of these threats."<
      For good grounded poison types, your best options are Toxicroak, Skuntank, Roserade, Tentacruel and Drapion. I'd recommend Roserade due to how useful grass can be in Sinnoh. But if you don't want that, Drapion and Toxicroak would be my second picks.
      Weavile is a good pick. It's a great glass canon and can even one shot Garchomp if used well.
      For Garchomp, I'd say that's a dumb reason to bench it. His stats and coverage are some of the best in the franchise. In competive, Garchomp can even hold his own against legendaries. He is an absolute monster. The only reason I don't use him is he makes the games too easy.
      For Gliscor, there are many good options for moves. Earthquake, Swords Dance, X-Scissor, Aerial Ace is one good set. If you want more coverage, you can swap out Swords Dance and X-Scissor for Ice Fang, Thunder Fang, Fire Fang, Knock Off, Poison Jab etc. If you want healing, give him Roost. Just remember to give Gliscor physical moves since its special attack is terrible.
      Rotom is decent outside of his regular and flying type versions. Take your pick of any of the remaining forms. Luxray suffers a little from being an electric type who relies on physcial attack. Be sure to give him Thunder Fang as his main STAB move. But both should be solid in Platinum.
      For Houndoom, Mystic recommends Flamethrower, Dark Pulse, Thunder Fang and Iron Tail. Houndoom is specially oriented so you can swap out Thunder Fang and Iron Tail for Solar Beam and Shadow Ball. You can also run moves like Howl to boost up attack and then use a physcial move in your last slot.

    • @FraserSouris
      @FraserSouris 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Nick Cruz Right, Forgot about the Safari Zone. That should make things a lot harder.
      Yes. Sinnoh's full of pretty good gound types. I personally used Gastrodon since I took Infernape.
      Rotom may match well against Electric, Ground and Fighting types but is too weak normally. You're better off using Gliscor if you want a single Poke to cover Empoleon's weaknesses. Gliscor even has electric coverage with Thunder Fang.
      I wouldn't recommend Thunderbolt or Discharge for Luxray since its Special Attack is way worse than its attack. If you can get Thunder Fang on it, it would be much better. Galade would fit the niche better as you said.
      While I personally have not used Tangrowth, it does seem to be a decently bulky grass type with a decent moveset. Seems like he'd be a solid pick.

    Another comment: while your choices of moves for Bronzong are definitely good and play to its strengths, I have suggestions for additional type coverage that it can learn: Shadow Ball (you currently lack a Ghost move) and Charge Beam (same for Electric, plus the potential power boost).
    Also, since I already commented on Sudowoodo being basically exclusive to Pearl, if you don’t want to wait for Weavile, then Roserade is a great option, as you said. With the move set you gave before, I presume (Petal Dance, Sludge Bomb, Shadow Ball, and Stun Spore (although Grass Whistle and Toxic are also options)).

    Surely. It would make more sense to give the infernape thunderpunch instead of stone edge. You can get thunderpunch if you go to the move relearner west of pastoria city with 6 blue shards. Stone edge allows infernape to counter flying types, but thunderpunch would allow him to cover flying and water types.

    Poor flygon, always forgotten in the shadow of garchomp, he can have the same move set as garchomp except that flygon actually learns fire punch which is better than fire fang

    My pearl team consists of Infernape, Staraptor, Luxray, Cherrim, Quagsire and Palkia/Misdreavus. And I’m satisfied with it.

    I also don't like two Steel-type attacks on a Steel Pokemon so I replaced Flash Cannon with Payback which also takes advantage of Bronzong's slow speed by doubling in power because everything will attack it first and it's really good against Lucian because it hits with 120 base power against most of his psychics. Also replaced Hypnosis with Confuse Ray as confusion works better with this set.

    I’m currently on my 3rd run through! My current team is Infernape, Luxray, Staraptor, Abomasnow, Garchomp and Palkia. I struggle against the elite four because I’m under level on a few key Pokémon, but should be okay when I take on Cynthia
