“ben day” was an old term for screen tones or “zip-a-tone” dot patterns that are now most popular in manga. essentially it is a fast background filler that gives different shade values, depending on the density of the dots.
I knew about Wally Wood's panels when I was in college what, 15 years ago now?! Wow. It was in a Storyboarding for Filmmaking class that I took and used some of it in my older comics I did back in the day. It's an excellent reference and I'm glad someone referenced it again. 😁
Yoo hahah I was just talking about this in one of my videos in the 100 days of making comics challenge! Super helpful and I think this will be my go-to panels if I'm ever stuck 😂
Is the image with the two Indians at the end from Turok? If so, I think I have that same comic. I even copied it in my own sketchbook. :) I always get stumped on conversation pages and need to remember Wally Wood's 22 panels. Good stuff! Keep up teh good work.
Have you ever have used any of these? Can you think of any other types of panels that always work?

“Punk rock skateboarder vegetable guy” is a phrase that sums up why I love comics. Keep doin it! Great tips, great work
Ha ha Thanks Buddy!
This helps SO much. I have a problem with my comic seeming boring, and I think I know why now. Thank you!
Your welcome!

Thank you so much for this. I never knew about this. I think it will decrease my workload by a huge amount.
Yeah I hadn't heard about it until a couple of years ago myself and it's definitely helpful! Glad to share this resource 😎👍
Great video! I use a lot of those, nice to know who pioneered them. Researching Wally Wood now.
