It's funny that I have always been a kind of artist who works on the details first. And yes for years I have struggled on anatomy. Only recently have I started working like this too and using less reference when it comes to drawing. I do still use reference when it comes to a complex poses and especially when it still comes to drawing hands. I hate hands. But I have to say I loved this video. Thanks for doing this and your Spiderman came out awesome.
This was such a good video! And couldn’t come at a better time as I’m trying to work on my figure drawings. It’s a long journey and sometimes , the struggle is real! Lol . I appreciate your videos and thanks for sharing this advice 😀
I know it's not easy making a comic, but thanks to you i'm beggining to break those barriers that keep me away from taking the first step and making my very own comics. You give very useful advices n.n! Thank you so much for creating this types of videos, i hope to see more of your content soon!
OMG I tried some basic poses the way you started, with just 'Flat' 60 second gesture drawing, Instant improvement! I've been drawing the whole detailed construction lines like everyone else is teaching with the spheres, cylinders, outline the ribs in the chest, cylinder hands, etc. Using your way, I just slammed out 5 soldiers standing with spears and shields in minutes without feeling intimated or scared of wasting time to see if they're set properly. I filled one in with ribs, and better construction lines and had to come back and leave a comment.
Marsh Makes Comics yeah! I haven’t done anything with TH-cam in a while but I have a couple single issues done and working on another project now so alls been well
Hey dude this is so awesome ! What are you using when you switch over to digital ? Is that a tablet ? And what program are you using ? I’m kind of new to this but I need to get something like that
dude your very right thats what i teach on my drawing group on face book ! its very inportant to start out not only ! drawing gestures and forms but refrence , thats whats in inportant , refrence but from real life people doing things its ok to copie from comic books but dont forget most comic book artist dont draw very well and lets face it ! the real true artist are Andrew Loomise , its realism and perfect umm jack kirby wasnt very good in anotamy but yes i admire him as a cartoonist , if you really want to get good , studie loomis and Alex Ross and Neal Adams they are the true perfection in realism good luck and you are welcome to join my group in face book 🙂

This is a great lesson, Marshall! So many beginning artists are forgetting or wanting to skip these very crucial steps.

Following these steps has really made a difference to your drawings! Great tutorial!
Thanks Teresa! Yeah when I first learned about this it was definitely a game-changer!
Great tips! I always struggle to bring movement into my drawings. I should try to make some gesture sketches before working on my next artwork.
Yeah it definitely helps! before I did the drawings for this video I actually did some other gestures as well 😎
