An unusual selection for a Bad Company song, usually people gravitate to Bad Company, Can't Get Enough or Shooting Star. Always nice to see someone picking a song off of the beaten trail a little.
Dang Troy, I would love to see a video of how you actually learn a song. Your stylings are awesome, and your playing is so spot on. As someone learning the bass, I would just love to learn how you learned. How did Troy learn the basics, and how does Troy learn now. Would be absolutely awesome! These videos showing your line after playing with the song are amazing. Thank you so much for putting these out there!
Someone just suggested a song by Sly and the Family Stone that I listened to and liked. It's a bit repetitive, but it's a cool bassline. It's called "If You Want Me to Stay". I just bought it on iTunes, but decided not to listen to it or start learning it so I could use it to make a video like you suggested (the seed was planted when I read your comment the other day, but just found the time to respond to it now). Essentially, I learn songs the same way now as I did when I started - one note at a time. But each song takes its own path. Some I learn straight through, from the first note to the last. Some, I'll learn roughly and then go back to fill in the details. Others are a combination of both of these methods. It could fail miserably, but I may give it a try. I'm not sure when I'll get to it, but when I do post it, make sure to remind me that it was your idea. Take care.
I have loved this song for many reasons. That Voice was made for this Song. Different channels and heights of the music written with words that truly send a message from the Story that is sung! Glad you and your Bride, Miss Lynn were able to go see a couple shows too! A belated Happy Candle Day! I'm a big fan of collecting candles on my Cake. Some people weird out over advancing age. I do not as another candle on my cake means I'm STILL here to Love my family and friends and THEY are able to love me too. The Debbie Downers and Bobby Boo Hoos of The World who complain about getting old would complain about paying taxes even if they won a huge lottery! Keep Strutting Troy! Cheers From Ohio
Totally agree... and thanks! Actually, Lynn didn't request it. I just know she likes it. I believe the only song she'd ever suggested was "Jane"... there may have been another one or two, but I can't think of them.
Bad Company! Such a great band with truly gifted musicians. Paul Rogers voice is definitely one of the greatest in rock. Great job as usual on the bass - difficult and tasteful work by Burrell. Thank You for the great video - something for me to attempt to learn. 👍

I appreciate you. We have similar playing styles. I have USA Spectors, Warwicks, and Lakland's. Playing in bands for 40 years. You have helped me with my cover bands many times. Thanks again!
Just beautiful Troy. You covered this on my birthday so it is special. Have listened to this dozens of times and have managed some of the simpler riffs. It is mesmerising. Without luck have I looked for bass tabs. Love it.
I really like this number Troy. The sound is strong and profound. I'm still excited about the phito. You bring so much happiness to all of Troy and that's a lot. You are a blseeing to us. Thanks! Marvine :-)
Thank you brother. Bad Company, my favourite group since their inaugural release which I was waiting for, having been a fan of Free as an 8 year old kid!
@@patrickgarrett9866 As a teen playing drums in the 70's and early 80's, two bands that I loved were Bad Co. and Molly Hatchet. Bruce Crump was my drum idol. Turns out, Simon Kirke was Bruce Crump's drum idol. Bruce's mom told me he cried when he met Simon Kirke. The circle of life.
One of my favorite Bad Company songs. Brings back great memories of playing pool in bars with friends. I have selected this in the jukebox more than once. I wish I had picked up the bass back then. Looks hard to play. You did it nicely. Thanks
I love this song, except for the long repetition at the end. Another verse would have done it. One of the best albums ever, imo. RIP, Boz. Nice playing. Thanks for sharing. 👍🏼
Another fantastic performance Troy! I really like the sound you’ve got going on this track. Could you possibly share the set up from bass to pedal? Are those round or flat wounds?
Thanks Alfredo. I wrote about the modifications I had done to the bass in the space beneath the video. All of my EQ comes from one SansAmp pedal or another. This was a Para-Driver Ver. 2. Always round wounds and my strings of preference are D'Addario EXL 220's.
I'll bet you Boz never played it the same way twice either! A great player, I was surprised to learn that he didn't even played the bass until Robert Fripp taught him how after Boz joined King Crimson. I was even more surprised to learn Boz was a great singer and led his own band, The Boz People before he hit the big time. Boz also replaced Roger Daltry as singer in The Who for 1 day after Moonie and Roger had one of their punch ups. 2 days later, and after the dust had settled, The Who reinstated their singer. I've never heard Mr. Burell sing, but he must have been good
I'd bet that you are right! I had read that about Boz and King Crimson a long time ago as well, but had never heard of the other things you mentioned. Very interesting! Thanks for sharing!
For real? No, Lynn doesn't play an instrument, but she's an avid music lover. I always thought it was an unusual wish... to play drums for Bad Co. That's worse than being the bass player!
Please accept my apologies for writing you here, please let me know where there's a better place to write you directly. Since you are my NEW favorite musician as well as probably my favorite bass player of all time, I was just wondering if you were familiar with the two songs "Something got me Started" and "Stars" by Simply Red (the bass player is a kat named Shaun Ward from London)?
No apology necessary, this is what I signed up for. New comments are the best way to make contact. "Replies", not so much, as I am not notified about replies. I'm not familiar with either of those songs, but I will try to check them out. Thanks for the suggestions.
@@TJH3113 Okay cool my brother! Please understand I was not suggesting these songs to try to make you my "personal jukebox" or anything. I just hold those two songs very DEAR to my soul and I refuse to ever suggest them to ANY of the cover band projects that I've ever been involved with due to the fear that the bass player would BUTCHER them and that would truly hurt me because for me these two songs are all about the bass line. But with YOU, I trust them in your hands WHOLEHEARTEDLY and COMPLETELY. Please get back to me with your thoughts on my suggestions even if you don't like them. I respect your playing which means I will gladly respect your personal opinion, thanks brother!

Mighty tastey. Boz was a genius. Phrasing is almost never the same, accents change and you couldn't ask for a better accompanist.

Wow, kismet. This song popped up in my memory about a week ago and I've had it on constant repeat since. One of Bad Company's best! Nice work, Troy!

The Spector Legend (the sunburst one) and the Mahogany Guild are two of my favorites to play, as much for as how they sound, as for how they play.

Troy, was this harder than YYZ? Given you have done a cover of YYZ that is.
I'd say that YYZ is much harder to physically play, but, in terms of learning the actual notes and committing them to memory, YYZ was a bit easier.
Does he mean, don't forsake me for the reason "I love you", or the other interpretation? 🤨
Good question. I take it as, "I love you, so please don't forsake me."
