      Usually, that is how it stands unless some indication to the contrary arises. No reason to arbitrarily assume it is fake with no indication at all.

    • @MayonR
      @MayonR 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      *****[[Actually, a logical person would be skeptical of things they see before assuming it's true.]] A logical person doesn't have to be skeptical but unbiased towards the likely possibility.
      [[It doesn't make much sense to assume that something is true due to the lack of evidence against it.]] That is how you deal with evidence. For example a claim stands unless there is a contrary claim. You consider which one of them is more consistent to the given scenario. One does not arbitrarily impose a bias against the possibility for the express chance that it might be true. You impose bias when an indication to the contrary or an inconsistency to the likelihood arises. To impose doubt or bias in an arbitrary manner gives rise to a number of logical fallacies.

    • @MayonR
      @MayonR 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      *****[[With your logic, a claim that there is a God will always be assumed true because it's something that can't be disproven.]] It is false that you can't prove a negative. You can disprove the claim that there are no lions in Africa. We can prove that there are no Muslims in the U.S. Senate. So you are wrong that my logic would say you cannot disprove God because as I have demonstrated, it is possible to disprove a negative statement.
      Concerning doubt or bias in evidence * Aristotiles Dictum indicates the same with literary critiques. ". The benefit of the doubt is to be given to the document itself, not assigned by the critic to himself." This means that you cannot disavow a claim by simple bias but that the claim stands until an inconsistency or contradiction can be demonstrated. I can provide further elaboration on this by scholars such as Greenleaf who expand on this principle when dealing with evidence.

    • @MayonR
      @MayonR 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      *****
      Actually you are doing the ignoring and calling fluff what you don't like. I was dealing with the same issue and further elaborated and demonstrated my claim. At no point did you refute my claim nor given a logical fallacy by name against any one of my claims. I have addressed the issue at hand. You are the one who brought up fluff then claimed it is my logic and also claimed what I would claim.
      I directly addressed and even now clarify that it isn't reasonable to arbitrarily be skeptical. You are complicating things because of the possibility that your bias is wrong. Your bias is based on your own perceptions as opposed to direct evidence. This doesn't change even if you restate it again and claim it is false. Deal with the issue at hand.

    • @MayonR
      @MayonR 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Brian Mi
      Actually I was not disputing liability. I am disputing that arbitrary bias is not a reasonable unless there is indication to the contrary. Since I didn't make a claim about worse drivers, I would say you are committing a straw man fallacy. You then proceeded to beat up the very straw man argument that you erected.

    I see in these comments, people jumping to conclusions, as did the cab driver. This is what happens when you don't research what you are seeing.
    #1 The vehicles are not "Driverless". They have a human behind the wheel during this testing phase. The driver can take over, and override the set vehicle commands at any time. This means that one possibility is that the "tester" said "screw that" and made the human decision to run the light.
    #2 While it is illegal to run a red light, if you are traveling at a certain speed, and the light turns while you are approaching the intersection, it is actually more dangerous to stop than it is to run the red light. Remember, the crossing lanes lights do not turn immediately when your light goes red. It takes a couple of seconds to allow someone in this situation the ability to pass through without putting others in danger. If an officer see's this, they usually take care of it on a case by case basis and will give a citation, a warning, or ignore it, again, case by case, and up to the officers discretion.
    #3 You can't really fault the cab drivers and cab companies to look for, exaggerate, and even ignore commonly known and followed laws to find flaws in their competition. They, are of course in competition. They've been fighting Uber, Lyft, and other services like them for a while now. They won't be updating their cabs any time soon, and will of course feel the need to continue the fight against a competitor who they feel is stealing money from them.
    #4 While there can be flaws in any programming system, you still need to take other things into account, such as what would human reaction be in the exact same situation. The easiest way to see if there was a malfunction in the vehicles operating system, or if it was overridden, is to look into the logs of the vehicle for this exact time. If there is a true and thorough test happening, then all this should be in the logs. Remember, even though Emergency Vehicles are not automated, they keep logs. At least most modern Police Vehicles do. They have a little "black box" almost like airplanes, that will record speed, if and when the brakes, turn signals, sirens, etc. are being used. This information comes in handy if an officer is ever involved in an accident while in their vehicle.
    I'm assuming Uber would be using something similar in their vehicles to log this testing, so as of now, I am looking at this with skepticism, and considering this an unconfirmed claim.

    • @joelknowl2677
      @joelknowl2677 7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      The cars have sensors that make them stop when self-driving and something obstructs the road. Even if there's no map data at all. It can see in 3 dimensions using multiple sensors and cameras, which is how it knows to stop before hitting cars in front of it too. It looks at the sides and straight too, so this car would know to stop before a contact occurred, barring special circumstances.
      ...except if the human driver took control. Which may be the reason this car ran the light in the first place. The human driver may have decided to take control and safely (though illegally) chose to run the red light, since it was a pedestrian intersection only, and nobody was close enough on the crosswalk to be at risk (by the driver's estimation). The self-driving cars are usually *very* good at recognizing stoplights, so it would be odd if this actually was ignored while the system was in control.

It uses basic sensor technology and satellite mapping, yet if driver is asleep or anything goes wrong it's not the techs fault, it's never is since there is literally a warning saying "tech is still in prototype phase, don't rely on it %100, you still need to be aware as the driver"

      The better way to credit the cab industry is not by discrediting Uber. It's by competing on merit. Give your riders clean, comfortable, well-maintained cars. Drivers that are friendly, well-dressed and have good hygiene. Methods of hailing a ride, and paying for the ride that are quick and easy. Means for getting help should any problem arise, and the willingness to solve those problems. Is this too much to ask?

    • @gonzoz1
      @gonzoz1 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Uber haven't got any "methods for getting help" Uber droid unless you count email As for the other slurs standard Uber droid speak.

    Uber doesn't have a permit to use completely driverless cars. There was a human driving this car that ran the light and this car isn't even part of their pilot where the driver let's the car take over. This is nothing but a smear job by some bitter cab company. This is probably the first light the cabbie stopped at all day.

      Uber is telling me this isn't a driverless vehicle, dude. It's a mapping vehicle that has a driver. The time-stamp on the video says November 28. Driverless vehicles weren't even on the road yet.
