I had no idea Mick Gordon composed this!! Just finished the game and thought the soundtrack was incredible, Mick Gordon is truly a legend
There are quite a few cues that give away that this is composed by Mick Gordon because they share sounds and styles similar to his DOOM 2016 soundtrack.
The use of high a high pitched tone at the beginning of “The Phantoms” is similar to Doom 2016 “Main Menu” where this high pitched tone is also used several times to accentuate beats or create unease: th-cam.com/video/Q-vsx84hsbs/w-d-xo.html, also in Doom 2016 “Give Him What He Wants”: th-cam.com/video/Q-vsx84hsbs/w-d-xo.html etc.
The low filtered bass In “The Experiment” is strikingly similar to the halftone step bassline and sound in DOOM 2016 “You Will Be Worse”: th-cam.com/video/Q-vsx84hsbs/w-d-xo.html and “The Beginning”: th-cam.com/video/Q-vsx84hsbs/w-d-xo.html
The Doom soundtrack also uses these very high pitched sounds again that I mentioned above.
Gordon also uses a lot of distorted samples to support the rhythm in both soundtracks. For example in “The Experiment”. Also, the “gliding” melodic lines (portamento) are used in both soundtracks. Like in “The Experiment” here: th-cam.com/video/_CE2LqXgHk8/w-d-xo.html, while Doom 2016 more often uses gliding basslines.
Or listen to Prey’s “The Phantoms” (th-cam.com/video/kO3XxfxPnko/w-d-xo.html). It would fit perfectly to Doom 2016.
If you listen to both soundtracks you can find a lot of tonal and melodic similarities.
In a few parts the Prey 2017 soundtrack makes me think of a much more more melodic and less distorted version of Doom 2016. Both soundtracks are really great!

I'm just about to say it again.
Prey is a stellar game.
Long time had to pass for me to feel such a connection to the plot and to characters. The last time was in 2017, when I first played the whole Deus Ex: Mankind Divided.
Prey engaged me deeply in the lore. The visuals, the environmental story-telling, the music... it all just sums up to a fantastic gaming experience. It's this kind of game that you just wish you forgot everything about, just to start the first, blind playthrough again.

I'm someone who barely plays any games, just a handful over and over. FPS things aren't really me, nor are shoot em ups. But this is a glorious immersive game to pay attention to.

Saaaaame. I want to replay RDR2 the same way. I really need to try Prey again after I finish Cyberpunk 2077. You guys are the best.. giving me inspiration to try it again as I lost interest in it.
typhon voices made such an impact the first times i heard it, so melodic and pleasant but psychological and creepy
Prey is the modern day System Shock with its own unique style. A rare masterpiece of 0451 games. Happy that Mick put his hand on that gem and made it better.

@Darth Skarr I agree. The ambiance is unlike anything I’ve ever seen, the place truly feels like people used to live there. Thoughts on moon crash? I like that hey put effort into the map but I the damn corruption meter keeps me from ogling at anything for too long :(
My favorite thing in game is when the Alex theme started playing. it was emotionally comforting after having worked hard or been in a scary area...

This game is legendary, arguably one of the best Immersive Sims ever made. I wish it didnt take me 4 years to play it (i played it last year).
Nah, it is flat out the best immersive sim ever made and the soundtrack is for sure the best of every immersive sim too.
I was hyped for it since I found out but never had a chance to buy it since last year.
Found it for like 5 pounds and instantly bought it.
Man going into it blind was soooo good and I platinumed It in like a month.

I think the enemy design is a lot to blame for it. When I first saw gameplay videos and demos I thought the enemies looked uninspired and boring. Everything looked like a copy of something I'd seen before, just a black foggy mess.
Other than that, the game is a masterpiece amalgamation of Half-Life, Deus Ex, Dishonored, Bioshock etc. They took bits and pieces of everything and made it really work well... as well as having a really good story, good performances, great music.......... and unfortunately the enemy design made combat look boring, so people never gave it a chance. Would love to see a Prey 2, but that's pretty unlikely.
@@CollectorDuck One of the bigger problems was that there was already another "Prey" game which people though would finaly get its sequel, but were left disapointed when it wasn't.
Loved the game though. The best gaming expierience I had in recent years

Amazing OST, amazing game. Prey (2017) is such a hidden gem, it's a perfect blend of FPS and RPG and the Immersive Sim (imho 🤷♀️), I loved it and still love it (just finished a preythrough the day before writing this gushy comment..spoiled myself on the ending yet it still blew me away). Am preying for a sequel to this masterpiece. Or perhaps it's so special it doesn't need a sequel...but I'm still preying for one some day. Best of luck to Arkane! 🙂
(Also it's badass intro theme reminds me of the beautiful main solo/melody (idk musical terms) that can be heard in the song 'Wings for Marie (Part 1)' by Tool. Kind of. 🤔)

If there's ever a sequel to Prey (2017), I hope it explains wtf happened to Dr. Morgan Yu. And what (really) happened on the Talos 1 Space Station and the Lunar Pytheas Facility. (Haven't played the Mooncrash DLC yet, but I think I roughly got the gist of what occured. Probably. I should just buy it and play it -_-)
And that it's more, well.."real." But I'll always love Prey (2017) to death.

Blasting Semi Sacred Geometry in the Yellow Tulip Bar while fending off the Nightmare is one of my all time favourite gaming moments. Nothing beats sliding under a table and feeding a typhon shotgun shells!
An absolute masterpiece, you can really tell a lot of love and effort went into the details in this game. Really rewards you for being clever too
Got home, doing that sit in the car thing before going inside, turned into having that random music listening session. And what a way to spend it.
Once you hear "the experiment" playing in the menu you know its gon be a lit game
I wish Arcane made the sequel...such a pity that main developers have moved from this studio to another to make the Wierd West game. Though it also has some pretty good music tracks. As for Prey - this is a game that i will never forget. I spent so many hours observing that beautifully crafted space station. Completed the game with only alien or only human mods. And even without them. With each time i opened so many ways to overcome the obstacles. I am in love with characters, Alex Yu is by far my favorite one with his sister. That desolate feeling you get while moving through countless of well crafted locations. Even now i miss this game so much. Of course this is not a flawless game but i don't care. Every year from now on the chance of releasing the game like this is smaller and smaller. Thumbs up for Mick Gordon because i can still take the part of this game into my daily routine.
It sucks when sleeper hits, Prey in question, doesn't get another shot.
This is killing me - At the end of The Experiment, I keep waiting for the drop from The Only Thing They Fear is You, and instead I'm treated with Everything is Going to be Okay.

The escalating intensity of January and December is brilliant. One is the excitement urging you to go forward and save the world, the other is the discordant fear telling you to save yourself.
One is telling you to blow up the space station and destroys the other drone.
When January told me he uses my own voice for me to like him more and be at ease i killed him, nobody in their right mind would say something like that xdddddddddd
@@Krondon-SSR yeah, when I tried to meet with December and saw January just up and ice him/her I just thought "woah there, that's pretty evil yo." And that was after *spoilers* - I had beaten the game following Alex's advice to use the Nullwave device (I figured that destroying the station meant losing the research and since there almost certainly is more Typhon out there, it would be incredibly short sighted to just up and give it all up for a temporary respite at best) and when January wouldn't even allow the alternative plan to take a shot and tried to incapacitate Alex I thought "okay, Alex hasn't exactly been helpful to me but he's not really loed to me either, January is just hardline going for his own argument and taking no other answers. He even says "Alex would use family as an argument to persuade me" and then later said "destroying me is the same as destroying yourself" which put me right up on the edge of thinking that despite all the guidance he's given me, this machine mind is not going to do anything but do what it thinks it needs to do, no matter the cost, to destroy the station. He has no other directive other than to destroy Talos-1 and it doesn't matter how or why, he just needs to.
I have a question for you though, I found January, December and the core for October, but I heard in Mooncrash he made 5 versions of himself, so does anyone know of a November/September/February/May?

@@widget3672 It's probably a prop/nostalgia object for an old 60s(?) computer console ( I can't recall the name of it *sigh* ) that the devs put in the game -- because Prey (2017)'s Timeline divulges from ours in the 50s, and it's very much a 1960s Retro-Futuristic one. Talos 1 most definitely has that kind of ascetic-feel...
Other than that, I think the answer is a TranStar company secret (for the higher-ups, maybe), lol xD
Fun fact: a Reployer has glowing red (ominous) LED lights on it. If you pick it up, those lights turn off for some reason.

First time I've completed Prey was in 2020. My older brother advised me it and I'm glad I've found it.
Literlly a 3 days later I decided to play it again, cause my friend in discord complained how this game is bad, buggy, trash and yet he didn't stoo playing it. Today I completed Prey again, and oh my god, how I love this game. I love everything Arcane does, and Prey is no exeption. Gameplay, visual, atmosphere, lore, MUSIC, this game is perfect in any way. I was Literlly playing for 9 hours straight tomorrow. I can't even make me go and make something to eat!
I love this game to death, as much as I love Dying Light and Dishonored series.
My current headcannon is that any game Mick Gordon's writes music for isnt really a game rather its a studios contribution to make an interactive music video for a Mick Gordon album.
Typhon voices is one of my favorite songs of this game. It’s creepy but still sounds good.
I would point out some favorite tracks, but honestly all of them are my favorite.
Especially No Gravity, I can and have listened to it for hours. Sometimes I'll start up Prey just so I can stare into space while it plays.
December and January are probably the closest thing to a Morgan's theme
I held of playing this game because I was told it was a bit disappointing. But I recently picked it up cheap on a whim. Damn it's awesome. It's pretty much the System shock 2 sequel I always wanted, tense, violent, open to multiple approaches and with a kick ass soundtrack. Genuinely a bit gutted I waited so long to play it.
Some people won't even play it because it's not the original Prey (2005 or so). They're both their own game, and this is definitely worth experiencing, as well as Mooncrash (which I heard has nothing to do with Deathloop, and is far superior.)
This game really deserves a prequel/sequel. Mooncrash showed there are plenty of cool and unique places to go with it. A deep space RPG would be pretty cool. Like a last-resort mission.

"December and January" Immedeately makes me think of one or two of the pieces of music in Dwarf Fortress.

the soundtrack is the work of Mick Gordon, the absolute madman that made the DOOM (2016) OST. Arkane made a very good game with prey, they are truly the masters of the FPS/RPG mix genre.

Absolute loved it, It's like the Best Of All Arkane Games, with the Feeling of Bioshock, Visuals of Dishonored and I think Location of System Shock (never played it yet, but think so from what I hear about it)

Typhoon voices is amazing: it makes me feel truly lonely; and realize the only way to survive is to fully mobilize your capabilities and stay alert
So, "Alex's Theme" is like a melancholic song for me but I can't stop imagining a "what if" scenario with it.
So basically, Morgan leads a group of survivors to the Arboretum which already has Coral floating around (aprox 16:42). Amongst them, there's this couple who met and kindled their relation in that section, and as the song reaches 17:25 they're like watching with sadness in their faces as their favorite place is wrecked and with the Coral surrounding it. The place they fell in love with each other, destroyed.
Idek how that came into place, but it just did. Kinda adds like a bit of extra ""lore or depth"" (considering this doen't even happen in-game)

I just beat the game and loved it to death and can't wait to play more. I thought the soundtrack throughout the whole experience was phenomenal and now I find out it's composed by Mick Gordon and it makes complete sense.
I started playing recently and went in completely blind only knowing it was something like prop hunt. Honestly my favorite game i ever played.

In this game i liked using the typhon power's while also using weapons i take down nightmares easily that way.

There was a part in the game where i turned on the speakers and played music (Semi Sacred Geometry )by accident... and it brought all the monsters on the floor i was on...to come in and attack. THANK GOD I HAD PREPARED A SHOOTING MACHINE ON THE FLOOR LOL (I just forgot what they were called...since it was a few months ago when i played lol )
I like this version more than what we hear in-game.
the end of December and January reminds me a lot of The Illusive Man's music from Mass Effect 2.
Such great music - up went the audio and my heart beat! I'm only 9 hrs into the game currently. if you liked matrix, half life and system shock - it's a great game!

You wake up in a room after either killing or taking Alex’s hand and basically if you took his hand you would kill the Typhon while saving people but if you killed them then you would just kill everybody, and for the ending(s) you could either activate the Nullwave device or after killing everyone and everything, you go to a planet which humans built and the last thing that happens is them saying “oh god” and then ending.......I guess
