I can appreciate the change-up. I do believe I prefer, for a specific reason, when the tasting is of the same pour for all. The thing that moves my spirit is the sharing component of the experience. I do tastings with even my grandchildren with all the different milks, Zero-Proof syrups, berries, or fruits. It's truly about smelling, swirling, tasting and expressing opinions on the same thing at the same time. Love you guys!
i picked up a bottle of the new riff single malt, opened with a group of friends and everyone was floored by it, we all loved it. a few in the group don’t prefer scotch much either, but thought it was honey, biscuity goodness. that’s what’s great about the whiskey journey - to each their own, and thankfully there’s plenty of it to own! great video, always appreciate the simplicity and honesty you guys bring to the whiskey review youtube world. keep it up!
I also have a bottle of the New Riff single malt. I agree the profile feels kind of like it leans more into an Irish whiskey than a scotch. It is very complex and is a nice sip to contemplate over.
Coming at this late because my wife and I recently picked up the New Riff Single Malt at the distillery. (Great tour/tasting, btw!) She really likes it but I do not. Maybe not coincidentally, she is a big coffee drinker and I am not. Still trying to figure out what if anything to do with the NRSM so that we can share an enjoyable drink with it.
Love Barrell Foundation, even my wife calls it her favorite now and she's always been a Buffalo Trace Fan. That's the only one I've tried of your mixup. 🙂
I'm not a big drinker..I live vicariously thru you guys. Very entertaining, even for us non-drinkers...your doing great...but what I meant to say was that I really enjoy the father son bonding and banter back and forth and laughing together...I really hope you guys keep it up.
That Found North Peregrine is one of my favorite pours ever. It's very flavorful, complex, and doesn't drink as hot as other 63% whiskies. I have been looking for the Barrell Foundation but haven't seen it yet. I really enjoy some of their other stuff and having more of a daily drinker from them would be nice.
I have a bottle of the New Riff Single Malt. I had the same initial reaction you both did. I've had my bottle open for over a month and revisited it today. It's MUCH better. My bottle is about a1/4 of the way down and I feel it opened up.
I tried the Driftless Glen Single Barrel last week for the first time, and had it right after a EHT small batch, so definitely put at a disadvantage. that being said i really liked it, it was really savory after the cherry sweet of the EHT, the Driftless had almost a jerky sweetness to it that I loved. Of course there will be variation barrel to barrel but i will defiantly be buying more from Driftless in the future. Great video!
Great series. I enjoy the quick reviews. I am starting to try American single malts so I appreciate the input on New Riff. I am not the biggest bitter coffee fan so I will hold off on trying it. Thanks
It's awesome that the barrell foundation and the Clyde mays 9 uear is in this blind because I just bought both today and haven't had a chance to try them . I also picked up barrell vantage today as well and I love that one
Nicely done with the new format. I doubt we will ever experience a New Riff that is as mind blowing as your pick of barrel 19124! I have been sampling quite a few others and they’re not even close. I realize the single malt is completely different but b/c of how amazing your pick is/was it has become the standard by which I judge anything from New Riff.
Great episode. The cask strength Driftless Glen rye picked up at the distillery is one of my favorite pours - have not tried the bourbon but will give it a shot especially if I can find cask strength.
Really liked this format. Hope to see more of it. But Trent! Your's was the first review I've seen of the Found North Peregrine that was anything other than glowing!
Great video format, nice way to get the word out on 6 new bottles. I like the first impressions, and you don't have to be drinking the same thing. Nicely done, cheers!
I love how you’re both willing to give your unadulterated opinion on what you’re nosing and tasting! It’s your palate and tasting and that’s awesome 👏🏻 👍😎 No apologies necessary ❤️
Trenton, Corsair puts chocolate malt in some of their ryes. Delicious! Now that would be a fun distillery to try. They have a lot of fun stuff. Corsair from Nashville. FYI Love me some Driftless Glen. Especially the Ryes.
Not a single malt fan, but am really shocked that New Riff fell flat for both of you. Anything I have had from them is unique and so good. And that packaging 😍 thanks guys
These stories you guys tell are the reason why most of us come here. The whiskey talk is great but we can hear anyone go on about it. You're genuinely likeable people.
Looking forward to picking up a bottle of the Barrell Foundation for hopefully this weekend. I love Barrell's stuff, but glad to see them put out a lower priced bottle. Hoping it is as good a value as the Bardstown Origin series turned out to be.
Great episode idea! Those Driftless Glen 96pf SiB have been very hit and miss for me, but every cask strength, store pick or not, has been excellent. They also have 9 year bourbon and rye now so I can’t wait to find one. Cheers 🥃
I REALLY loved this video. Blinds are always great. I am sure it is hard to pick out bottles you haven't really tried but would be ok with each of you doing the other's favorite bottles of years past. Trenton, pick out your favorite three or four bottles from 2022 and Kurt, do the same. You pick out your 3 or 4 from the same year and you each rank them. You could even be giving each other the same bottle (s). If you chose your top 6 or 8 bottles, it is possible that you each liked a specific bottle from that year. Just a thought 🙂
As a WI resident, I love Driftless Glen, it's my favorite distillery. If you guys are ever in Wi, I highly recommend you take some time and do a tour and tasting. I love all their bourbon and rye offerings.
Barrell Foundation is a hitter! Kurt, don’t sell yourself short on your tasting notes. The Barrell Foundation is 23% Rye….5&6 year Maryland rye in the blend so the fact you were picking up some good rye notes is not surprising. Love the format and, as always, great content!
Yeah I had a similar experience with the new riff single malt. It was good, but there was some kind of tangy berry something or other to it that kept me from loving it. Now the new riff 6 year malted rye is something special.
I prefer the old method where both of you taste the same pour and comment on it. It is nice to get 2 responses to each pour. Being new to bourbon, i find that format very helpful in helping me choose bouborns that I may consider to purchase. Great channel!
Great blind this is a heck of an idea. And a great way to get bottles you wouldn’t necessarily try. Kind of shocked about the Driftless glen the notes he was talking about while drinking seemed like it was not good then bets the Found North crazy. Goes to show that these are all different and things change. Great job and I’m looking for a Barrell probably getting it from seelbach soon. Enjoy!!
This format is decent, but I like when y’all are sampling and analyzing the same thing. It makes for more of a shared experience, and rather than getting one opinion on six different whiskeys, I would prefer to have two opinions on 3-5 whiskeys. Thank you for y’all’s honesty and efforts!
Not surprised by the Barrell taking the win but I am surprised that the New Riff is on the bottom. Ive loved everything Ive had from them but Im glad y'all saved me the purchase price of this bottle because I certainly would have bought one.
I'm right there with you guys on New Riff Single Malt. I was THRILLED when I found a bottle at a shop, even if they had it marked up to $80. Everything I've tried from New Riff has been good but I wasn't in a rush to open the bottle. Was traveling a couple weeks later and ran across a second bottle for $65 and thought I should go ahead and grab a backup given how uncommon these things are in my area. Now that I had a second bottle I decided it was time to open a bottle... I drink American Single Malts, Irish Malts, Scotch, and tons of Japanese whisky so I didn't expect a Rye or Bourbon experience but I also didn't expect what I got. It was bad - like I don't want to finish this ounce bad. I let that first glass sit out for like an hour and the flavors never really improved. It was almost unpalatable for me. Came back to the bottle twice over the next 3 months and it's only marginally improved. Lesson learned - don't just blindly buy a second bottle of something completely new from a brand. New Riff is a rye brand to me and I don't think I'll rush to buy anything that isn't a rye from them in the future without getting a sample.
Kurt you should try to get your hands on Mammoth Northern Single Malt. Mammoth is in Central Lake Michigan. The single malt is made with Michigan grown Conlon barley and Peat that comes from a northern Michigan bog. I am from Michigan, the Midland area, and I think it would be cool to see you try this and see what you think. I am not a Peaty single malt drinker but you may very well like this. They also make bourbon and a few rye whiskies. Maybe Trent would enjoy the Rye.

What a great idea Trenton! The stories on Mom's purse brought make found memories of me in church looking for something to eat, in the 1960's!
I like this series! 6 quick reviews. Keep it up guys, love the content!
Always a pleasure to see two of the foremost “personalities of spirits“ digging into Products of common interest in mutual enjoyment. Keep it up guys!
I can appreciate the change-up. I do believe I prefer, for a specific reason, when the tasting is of the same pour for all. The thing that moves my spirit is the sharing component of the experience. Great format change up, let’s do it again!
i picked up a bottle of the new riff single malt, opened with a group of friends and everyone was floored by it, we all loved it. a few in the group don’t prefer scotch much either, but thought it was honey, biscuity goodness.

Just picked one up last week and it's amazing for $50. Very excited I was able to find and get one.
Can confirm. I am getting bottle #2 this weekend.
loved this guys!!!
I'm not a big drinker..I live vicariously thru you guys. Very entertaining, even for us non-drinkers...your doing great...but what I meant to say was that I really enjoy the father son bonding and banter back and forth and laughing together...I really hope you guys keep it up.
LOVE this idea!
Obligatory Trent roast for putting DIRFTLESS Glen
I have a bottle of the New Riff Single Malt. I had the same initial reaction you both did. I've had my bottle open for over a month and revisited it today. It's MUCH better. My bottle is about a1/4 of the way down and I feel it opened up.
Wild Turkey 101 is AWESOME!
Love this type of content! Give us more. A nice twist on just a normal blind
Great series. I enjoy the quick reviews. I am starting to try American single malts so I appreciate the input on New Riff. I am not the biggest bitter coffee fan so I will hold off on trying it. Thanks
The driftless glen rye is really good too!
It's awesome that the barrell foundation and the Clyde mays 9 uear is in this blind because I just bought both today and haven't had a chance to try them . I also picked up barrell vantage today as well and I love that one
Love your guy's videos! I've been a subscriber for years!
Nicely done with the new format. I doubt we will ever experience a New Riff that is as mind blowing as your pick of barrel 19124! I have been sampling quite a few others and they’re not even close. Great episode. The cask strength Driftless Glen rye picked up at the distillery is one of my favorite pours - have not tried the bourbon but will give it a shot especially if I can find cask strength.
I’ve never had a bad bottle from Barrell. I started with Seagrass and Armada but recently had Batch 34 and their Amburana finish. All are very good
I enjoyed this format. I like that you add new things up now and then. Cheers.
I really liked this format. Hope to see new bourbons I haven’t tried.
Trent’s face after he smelled the glass at 12:45 is priceless 😂
Really liked this format. Hope to see more of it. But Trent! Your's was the first review I've seen of the Found North Peregrine that was anything other than glowing!
I loved this format. You guys didn’t influence each others decisions at all and covered a broader range.
Great video format, nice way to get the word out on 6 new bottles. I like the first impressions, and you don't have to be drinking the same thing. Nicely done, cheers!
Really like this format! More videos like this please!
I love how you’re both willing to give your unadulterated opinion on what you’re nosing and tasting! It’s your palate and tasting and that’s awesome 👏🏻 👍😎 No apologies necessary ❤️
You guys are nuts, that New Riff is great.
It's not good.... At all...
This is a great way to dig through new releases or random bottles.
Suggestion:
Have ‘Mom’ select the three unknowns for each…
A TOTAL blind
@@paleggett1897 a fan mail in blind could be cool too.
Hi there!
What a great idea: review of 6 different bottles in a short and accessible format.
I'm waiting for the next episode!
These stories you guys tell are the reason why most of us come here. The whiskey talk is great but we can hear anyone go on about it.
You're genuinely likeable people.
Driftless for THE WIN!! 🎉🎉🎉 Go Bucky!!!!!!
I’m glad you guys had a chance to try the Driftless Glen single barrel I dropped off at Kent‘s party. Give it another shot after it opens up.
I loved that New Riff Single Malt, went through the whole bottle in 2 weeks, probably faster than most any bottle I've sipped my way through.
Great video as usual! Like the idea for this video!
Looking forward to picking up a bottle of the Barrell Foundation for hopefully this weekend. I love Barrell's stuff, but glad to see them put out a lower priced bottle. Hoping it is as good a value as the Bardstown Origin series turned out to be.
Enjoyed this. I tried hard to get that found north and was just too late! Hopefully I'll get to try it some day!
Love the format. Though I do miss the cocktail shows.
Maybe a cocktail Monday, since most of us need a cocktail after a normal Monday
All for the new format. I enjoyed the video and look forward to the next one. 👍
Love the new format! That Barrel Foundation is an insane value. Drinks way above its price point.
Great Idea and truly enjoying. I get 6 reviews of stuff I probably have never seen before thanks
Great episode idea! Those Driftless Glen 96pf SiB have been very hit and miss for me, but every cask strength, store pick or not, has been excellent. They also have 9 year bourbon and rye now so I can’t wait to find one. Cheers 🥃
I do like the format. Glad that you commented more following the reveals
Really liked the format. Would like to see more in the future.
Really enjoyed this format. Thanks guys!
I have an unopened bottle of Peregrine. Saving it for something special. Seen a lot of people/reviews say it's one of the best pours they've ever had.
You guys did really well - the Barrel does have some rye in it like 20+ % if I remember right
Barrell has really killed it with the Foundation. I love the stuff
Like the format… always fun to see double blinds and this was a good mix up.
Love Trentpon's comment about the burnt Balcones, thought I was the only one picking it up.
Absolutely love the NRSM. About to open my 2nd bottle
Yes this was a great format, I also wonder what it would be like if you both had the same lineup but in different order
Great vid as always! Cheers from Minnesota 🥃
Yes, I really like where you have two people get blinded, but I also like it when you both are blinded with the same whiskeys. Fun video.
For Driftless Glen, you need to get their ryes. There was a short barrel hazmat rye I regretfully missed.
I REALLY loved this video. Blinds are always great. Definitely make this a regular series!
Let’s get a American single malts for beginners video. Some solid budget buys. I’m looking to get into American single malts also
Yeah, I've been on the fence and not tried any, I'm not a fan of scotch. Been thinkin Westward, Stranahan's or Yellowstone
Westward Cask Strength is stupendous! Bought a bottle 2 weeks ago and it’s gone! Got my second bottle today! Blew my mind how tasty it is
@@fishhead680 Eventually I'll afford one to try.
Fellow Hoosier with the first comment! Excited for this video
Would definitely like to see this on a regular. Love the Barrel foundation.
Yeah I had a similar experience with the new riff single malt. It was good, but there was some kind of tangy berry something or other to it that kept me from loving it. Now the new riff 6 year malted rye is something special.
I loved the story about Kurts grandad!
Great format. Would love to see a panoramic shot of the basement and studio. Thanks
Nice format!
Yes to this format, nice work
Love the new format and the tasting notes. Tire fire, asphalt, cardboard, just like on the back of the bottles! 😅
I prefer the old method where both of you taste the same pour and comment on it. It is nice to get 2 responses to each pour. Being new to bourbon, i find that format very helpful in helping me choose bouborns that I may consider to purchase. Great channel!

I kind of like this format. Keep it going!
"Driftless Glen" kinda reminds me of a guy I used to play softball with...🤔
Barrell Foundation will be the next bottle I buy. All the reviews I've seen say its an amazing $50 bottle.
This format is decent, but I like when y’all are sampling and analyzing the same thing. It makes for more of a shared experience, and rather than getting one opinion on six different whiskeys, I would prefer to have two opinions on 3-5 whiskeys. Thank you for y’all’s honesty and efforts!

Will you guys be doing a video on the Wild Turkey Generations? I’d love to see a review video on that.
Hi Kurt and Trent, we watch your show from the Netherlands. We like it soooo much!!!
I enjoyed the format, let’s see another video like this one.
Great format, would like to see more of it.
I think the New Riff Single Malt is great! Don’t get the bitter tasting note at all. Get a lot of chocolate on the nose and palate. To each their own.
I just got the Barrell Foundation delivered Monday, haven't tried it yet, but sounds like I made a good decision.
I like the concept. Maybe do it once every month or so.
Love the concept guys. Keep up the good work! And what the heck is Dirftless Glen??
Kurt you should try to get your hands on Mammoth Northern Single Malt. Mammoth is in Central Lake Michigan.
