Coronation Park is a squatter camp with a majority white population in Krugersdorp, South Africa.
Although impoverished blacks in the region far outnumber their white counterparts, this camp is one of a growing number of townships populated mostly by Afrikaners - white South Africans.
In the 19 years since the fall of apartheid, more and more whites are coming face to face with poverty and social meltdown.
A controversial "affirmative action" policy sees blacks take precedence over whites on the job market, giving some people little choice but to move into tents and caravans in camps such as Coronation Park.
Residents are frustrated at what they see as 'reverse apartheid.'
"I'm sorry, it's racist. I'm not racist, but the blacks come first and then whites," said one retired resident of the camp. "And even highly qualified whites don't get a position in South Africa."
Another man agreed, blaming affirmative action for their situation.
"Apartheid was a problem. But, this is the only country in the world where the majority has got 'affirmative action'," he said. "America's got affirmative action, everywhere's got affirmation action, but this is the only country where the majority's got 'affirmative action'."
Post-apartheid governments have struggled to achieve redistribution of wealth and economic growth, leading to an increase in poverty among the country's white population.

I am struggling right now as a South African despite being above adequate.
The white people who is suffering in South Africa isn't those who were in power but those who was still a minor in apartheid, with no say in the matter. It is like carrying the sins of those before you. They say our system today makes everybody equal but why do the government in power deny these white camps basic funding like they provide for black camps; child care, ground and electricity? all denied?
Both black and white are struggling in South Africa because funding goes for unnecessary projects like free wi-fi for jo-burg and spending millions to improve a few schools that's equal to schools in Europe and America, while hundreds of schools don't even have running water, teachers or textbooks.
It is easy to say, 'yeah they got what they deserve' but what do you know sitting there in front of a screen in your comfy chair? I don't see why Africans can say 'go back to where you came from' because nobody chooses where they should be born. It is like trying to send every single person on earth back to where his or her ancestor originated, humanly impossible...

There are hundreds of thousand black communities in the country who are currently living in far worse economic conditions. In absolute poverty and inhabitable settlements. It is a widely accepted norm for black communities to be living in unfavourable economic conditions and the contrary becomes a very sensative matter to our white counterparts.

+thucydides Neo there's more to the situation with whites in South Africa than simple poverty. The poverty is a result of an apartheid mentality. Since the end of the apartheid the government has been taken away many homes and businesses from white Africans to make way for black Africans, employers are choosing to employ blacks over whites and their is a big anti white mentality amongst the population. If you know anything about the history of South African apartheid you should notice a lot of similarities between then and what I just described. It may not be as widespread and extreme as it was in the past but it's a turning point and could be the beginning of a reverse apartheid.

Colonization kept economic growth from occurring in many African, Central American, and South American countries. How can you ignore the stifling of growth, and make a statement like that? Most of the TRILLIONS of dollars in natural resources, that are found in Africa, are not controlled by African countries. Leave them alone, and you'll see a similar situation arise like in the middle east, where they've prospered and grown economically as a region.

In a normal society there are rich and poor people of all races. Everyone is mad because poverty in South Africa is no longer solely an African thing (even though the majority of Africans still live in worse conditions than these). I hope that these people will receive the help that they need, many SAcans survive on social welfare but some refuse to apply due to pride.
