      Slaps forehead!.. Look, brother, I'm from Houston, and watched Olajuwon's entire career.. He's my favorite player, ever, and even I know his talent pales in comparison to Wilt.. You guys just really have no clue about the guy, and it's kinda laughable..
      Wilt was a world class high jumper, and once jumped 6'10".. And that was the old school way, not the Fosbury flop.. He also ran a sub 2 minute 800 yard dash, which is very very good, especially for a man his size.. If you watch old film on the guy, he was ALWAYS the fastest player on the court, and he bench pressed 500 lbs, AT AGE 60!..
      Wilt and Andre the Giant once took turns picking up Arnold Schwarzenegger and dangling him with one arm.. lol.. And this was when Arnold was winning everything in the body building world.. In fact, Arnold refused to work out with Wilt, cause it embarrassed him (I once saw Arnold tell the story of how Wilt would do sets of 150 lbs curls, which were 100 lbs more than Arnold did, lol)..
      Trust me, the most talented player/athlete WHO EVER LIVED, is Wilt Chamberlain.. Period..

      Well, lol.. Let's see.. Wilt lead the league in rebounding 11 times, FG % 9 times, and scoring 7 times.. Olajuwon lead the league in rebounding once..
      What does that tell you?.. lol..

    • @jacobjones5269
      @jacobjones5269 10 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      *****
      LOLOL.. You're insane.. Wilt would average pretty much what he averaged against Russell, against Olajuwon... Which was 28 point per game, and 28 rebounds per game..
      You talk about versatility, lol, Wilt was a world class in the heptathalon.. He was a world class volleyball player, after he finished basketball..
      Like I said, Olajuwon was great, but not the greatest..

      rockets destroyed the bulls during the regular season 3-1 with jordan, 3-1 without jordan. and new york was too good. jordan's dad was murdered, he had a gambling investigation and he played back to back championship seasons with no off season because of the dream team. he was mentally and physically not prepared to carry his team in 94. even when he came back in 95, they lost to orlando, whom the rockets swept.

      alajuwon ran like a deer and had ridiculous energy levels for a guy 7 foot tall. a lot of those stats that jordan is mentioning, like blocks, and steals, and rebounds, are hustle and energy stats, and no center in the league could keep up with alajuwon when he was in his prime. while he could keep up with all of them. he was unique. like a bigger bill russell with a deadly turnaround jumper.

      gerizzyYMcrew if Shaq has one up over Hakeem is that he has more overall luck when it comes to team mate to play with. And having the likes of Kobe,LeBron,Wade,Rice,Bosh somewhat eased you to loiter more in the paint area with other area well covered. Hakeem, I can only think the season where Barkley and Drexler joined was the only time he have something closest to star studded,other than that he has to almost single handedly carry the team

    Jordan, a class-act. He has honored me with his patronage at a night-club I tended-bar at, a few times actually. He was "smart" with his money, not a big-spender/tipper, but he was ALWAYS polite & kind. He didn't have an "air" about him (get it?) like he was better than everyone at the club, even though he was, and I always admired him for that.

    • @mtbrider6119
      @mtbrider6119 10 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      To me it's truly amazing that a center was a leader in steals. Hakeem wasn't stepping into passing lanes like you would expect a guard to get most of his steals, he was simply taking the ball away from players that drove to the basket. A true "steal" :). He caused opponents to change so many shots, and of course all time blocked shots record, and on so many of his blocks he would block the ball to a teammate or block it and get the ball himself, resulting in fast breaks. Then he was also slapping the ball out of opponents hands, or stripping it from them and just taking it away. And then there was the rebounding titles and near titles for so many seasons. Arguably the best defensive player ever at any position.

    Hakeem dominated Centers during the 80-90's...If he were playing in today's NBA, he wouldve won more MVP's and titles considering that there are no real elite level centers today. If he were playing during the 60's-70's he wouldve caused the same problems for big men in those times... The common theme is that Hakeem's game truly was transcendent and would be one of the best regardless of time. This in my opinion is why he truly is the best center ever.

    • @ellandecampbell6279
      @ellandecampbell6279 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      But the same can be said for Wilt Chamberlain & Kareem Abdul-Jabbar also. Wilt was probably the most physically dominant player ever, with plenty of size even by today's standards (7'1", 275-300 pounds). With today's big men being what they are, he'd certainly dominate today. Kareem was 7'2', with the greatest weapon the sport has ever seen (the sky hook); No era would be able to stop him

      gerizzyYMcrew: You know how you stop it? Foul him (because we all know how disgraceful Shaq was at the free throw line). It's obvious that you're just a prisoner of the (more recent) moment. & before you tell me that I'm a prisoner of the 70's & 80's, I'm only 24

    • @ellandecampbell6279
      @ellandecampbell6279 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

MJ is 3rd in total steals despite retiring three times, Stockton is 1st, & Alvin Robertson is the all time leader in career steals per game as well as the only player to accumulate 300+ steals in a season. All four came from the 1984 draft, along w/ Barkley who was no slouch at steals either.

    Hakeem Olajuwon is the Greatest Center Of All Time. For Michael Jordan to pick Olajuwon on his dream team at Center, not Shaq, not Kareem, not Wilt, not Bill Russell. None of those guys, he chose Hakeem Olajuwon. Nothing else need to be said.

      ensayofr Only because Tim has Championship experience, however, Malone did face Jordan in the finals so at the same time I cut em some slack. I just like Tim much more as a player, my personal preference.
      Jabbar and Olajuwon could be a coin toss, but Jabbar is 1st in the scoring list (sky hooks deadly) and the Championships. But again, Olajuwon's the fastest center with moves like a guard. The best defenders (Dave Robinson to name one) couldn't even stop him.

    Really liked Mike's pick on his starting 5. Pippen is expected. Magic is probably an easy pick as well for Jordan at the PG spot. I think it's no coincidence Hakeem won 2 championships during Jordan's first retirement, and Jordan noticed Hakeem's greatness. Worthy may be a surprised pick to a lot of people, but talk to older bball heads, they tell you how underrated is James Worthy. Jordan being a freshman in that UNC 1982 NCAA championship team led by Worthy definitely knows what 'Big Game' James is capable of.

    1 Magic 2 MJ 3 Scottie 4 Worthy 5 Olajuwon played against:
    1 LBJ 2 Kobe 3 Larry Bird 4 Karl Malone 5 Kareem
    It would be a great series. (Lebron typically handles the PG position with any team he plays with even though he's listed at SF because of his height and weight and he usually plays the SF on his defensive assignment.) Hard to pick a team against Magic, Jordan and Hakeem though.

      In his prime, Olajuwon got the better of every big man of the era, and there were a LOT of great big men in the 80's and 90's. If he's not the greatest center, he's top 3. People forget that he played power forward for his first few years in the league as well, next to Ralph Sampson. He was the best PF in the league.

    • @nbagoats4819
      @nbagoats4819 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @hartsickdisciple
      @hartsickdisciple 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      NBAGOATS Of course no player ever bests their matchup EVERY game. The point is that Hakeem won most of the matchups, and was widely-regarded as the best big man in the league from the late 80's through the mid 90's. Even Shaq says that Dream was the greatest center.

    • @nbagoats4819
      @nbagoats4819 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      hartsickdisciple Shaq never called Hakeem the greatest center. And no Hakeem didn't win most matchups. Kevin MacHale for one, dominated Hakeem when they squared off. So did Kareem and Shaq. Shaq btw calls Wilt the greatest center of all time.

    • @hartsickdisciple
      @hartsickdisciple 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      NBAGOATS That's incorrect. Shaq picked Hakeem as the greatest center. He said this while playing for the Cavs. He has called Wilt the "father of dominant basketball." The video is on youtube. The Shaq quote about Hakeem has been used in a few different youtube videos. At least one instance is in a Hakeem highlight mix.
      Where are you getting the idea McHale dominated Hakeem? In the 86 Finals, Ralph Sampson and Peterson guarded McHale most of the time. That was also only Hakeem's 2nd year in the league, while McHale was in his prime. Here are the stats for the 2 guys in question during that series:
      olajuwon: 24.7 ppg 11.8 rpg 1.8 apg 3.3 bpg
      mchale: 25.8 ppg 8.5 rpg 1.7 apg 2.5 bpg
      Olajuwon was at least as good, if not better overall, and this was in his 2nd year in the league. Once again- They weren't even matched-up most of the time.
      Kareem? Did you forget the '86 Western Conference finals, where 2nd-year Hakeem destroyed the whole Lakers frontcourt? His average from that series:
      31 ppg, 11 rpg, 4 blocks per game.

    A shame Jordan's Bulls never met Hakeem's Rockets in the finals. It would have been a fitting match up considering both of the Rocket's titles have a fan generated asterisk with Jordan being out of the league in 94, and not at full speed in 95. A 1997 finals of the Bulls vs Rockets would have been great, since the Rockets had Clyde Drexler and Charles Barkley, both of whom had lost to Jordan's Bulls in the early 90's.

    • @morecowbell235
      @morecowbell235 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A lot of people don't realize, Hakeem never played with an all star except for maybe his first year or two with Sampson before Sampson was hurt. Jordan had HOF pippen and rodman on those bulls teams for a number of years.
      Also, I don't think the 1997 finals would have been good at all. Hakeem, Barkley and Clyde were all near retirement or injured.
      I think the 1994 Rockets would have had the best chance to beat a Jordan led bulls team if Jordan was playing that year. However as said before, the only all star on that Rockets team was Hakeem. No one else made it

    • @NobodyTouchesJordan
      @NobodyTouchesJordan 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      In 1994 Hakeem became the only player to ever win the championship without either
      - a Hall of Fame teammate or coach
      - a player who made the all-star team that year
      Thorpe made it in 1992, but went 2-10 in the 12 games Hakeem missed which caused the Rockets to miss the playoffs
      and Hakeem led the 1994 Rockets in 5/5 categories for the entire 4-round playoffs, the only time that ever happened on a championship team.
      Jordan was the closest after Hakeem in doing that, he led the 1997 Bulls in 5/5 categories for the last 3 rounds of the playoffs, tying Rodman in rebounds for the last 3 rounds with 133 each.
      but he fell barely short in rebounds (10 rebs - 0.53 rpg) and blocks (1 block - 0.05 bpg) for the 4-round playoffs because of the 3-game series against the Bullets.

    • @Stonecoldalston
