According to my dealer it was axed. They will beta on the eletric only version and keep the 63amg. So if you want a G diesel order fast because they will stop producing it soon.

Two notes:
1st back in '79 it was meant to be an army vehicle of the Iran army, not the German one. It was the the Shah of Iran that order it.
2nd there was no 3.5 litre diesel in the previous model. 350d was 3.0 V3. There was 3.4 (3449 cc) in the early 90's but that is not what you have talking about :)
Other then that - fully agree - probably much better daily then G63, which is more like a toy for super rich.

They call that Diesel engine the 400 d so if it’s in a Gle coupe it’s says 400 d on the back ! And yes it’s a fair amount cheaper then a g63
But it's over a million I think not so sure. If you choose between the G400d and the G63 which one would you take?

@@mukundimakatu2942G400d. The only thing you're sacrificing is a V8 but a V8 on such a big and expensive car is a waste.
A diesel engine suits this car more.
Money no object, would you get the 63 or the diesel?
Call me mad but I'll take the diesel - it is just much better daily vehicle
Lately I love the G400d or G500, they are better off-roaders than the G63, so it's a G400d for me, plus g400 is rare unlike the 63, so you will be unique when u drive the G400 or 500
Diesel for me, more practical to live with on a daily basis. I value my license, the G63 is pointless bling in my opinion. A car that wants to pull that much would not be relaxing when trying to stick within speed limits. They make it because they can. Six cylinder diesels always sound great and there will be far less physical strain on the mechanical bits in the long term with this diesel.

Yeah so the badges on the back of cars don't really apply to the engines litre anymore. It says 400d but it's actually a 2.9 diesel. The 400d is just an indication as to its place in the line-up. This is the Stronger Than Time Edition which make sit somewhat special as it features some optional items as standard.

@@justincars5755 Its as daft as the new BMW 330e. Its a 2 litre four cylinder engine, and ive driven a few and im not impressed. Im not really a fan of BMW, its the image and average reliability but if I could chose one, if I was forced to have one by some generous fool I would get one with X Drive, not sure which though.

Price
Sound system is OK, not the best. Subwoofer is not overhead, it’s in the rear luggage compartment.
Most G wagon owners don't drive it off road because of the price
I want and need this diesel power engine G Class in Southern California. Not the over dress G63.

With forthcoming legislation favouring green motor vehicles, and negative bias on the use of diesel fuels going forward, is the 400d already approaching prohibition?
I am Pro-G Class! Not happy with the electric prototype currently promoted.

The infotainment system is not a touchscreen system because of safety and usability when you go around in the terrain and in traffic because you can't "see" with you fingers on a touch screen compared to buttons.

The colour is: Olive green
To judge this car it needs much more than just a day or two. I drove these cars for a decade and they have a number of unpractical issues. The space on the back seat is far to small for people above 16 years old, unless they have no legs. Also the back door with the spare wheel mounted is far to heavy to open and close. Also the wind noise while driving faster is really disturbing. To cruise around in Jozi this car attracts the wrong people. I would not drive around town in a G wagon. Greetings from 🇩🇪. 😊😊
