Very nice tutorial. Watched it on mute with captions on, and was still able to follow along. Replaced this model's back cover today. Helpful video. Thanks mate.

Thanks for the video. Would like to add precision for others.
I just did it like you but now I noticed (i did not before in the video) that the pin hole of the tape is up on the screen. Perhaps prying a little bit at the top would give access to it.

Where did you buy the touch screen replacement?

Good video. While I was able to snatch the bottom of one of the pull strips, I had to go in the top for the 2nd one. All my fishing around for that end (that on my model was about an inch in) came up empty. I've found for the average person these screens are so risky to replace like this that it's best for them to go shopping for an entire LCD assembly. Good used ones can be found for only a bit more than a new panel. Even riskier if you have a good screen/digitizer and you're just replacing the back because a hinge broke off. Then a bit too much flexing and.....CRACK!

I can't really tell where he's grabbing the tape from. He reaches in, but it's fast and far enough as to not be able to see it well, if you don't already know what you're doing.
And how much of the screen is held in with clips, as opposed to tape?

My tape broke when I tried pulling it out. Now I can't grab it with anything. What to do?
Also what kind of tape to use to replace it? I wish I could get tape with tabs in case I ever have to do this again.

UNFUCKINGBELIEVABLE! HP installed the adhesive strips on the same computer as yours upside down with the release tabs being on the top! HP SUCKS CANALWATER!!!!! AND the only reason this hp needed service was due to their faulty designed hinges breaking away from the top lid! My remedy was using the flat scraper and my rework station having a temp of 260 deg. C. not F. The scraper being only 6 inches long proved not long enough to reach so after having both sides started with the scraper and keeping the area adequately warm just beyond touchable I'd work the scraper in then I moved onto a butter knife. But, when I was finished and had the screen out I was shocked to see the release tabs at the top of the screen! I had worked on this cautiously for 2 days when if the adhesive strips with the release tabs on the bottom were properly installed it would have been an hour job! SHAME on HP!!!!!

@@thepcphone Thanks! I did get it done finally and everything works as it should and flips over to a tablet as it should. One mod I did was to loosen the torque on the hinges just a small turn-maybe not even a sixth of a turn so that the hinge torque doesn't cause breakage again. HP? Pffft!
