  • Hey guys, welcome back to my newest video. In this video i will be repairing and going over on how to fix this broken hinge, on this convertible HP Envy laptop. I will cover most bases for this repair, and also how to do it if your hinge breaks. You will need a few tools. This repair is difficult, and i would not recommend it to a beginner tech - however you cant learn to repair if you don't try. Don't be afraid to fail!

I had to sort through a dozen videos before I found this one, which is what I wanted in the first place.

Hp should do it for free. Why in the world did they think it was a good idea to use plastic reinforcement/bracing... It should have been hardened metal housing as part of the panel backing! Have 3 of x360 envy and they all got hinge backing plastic crap broken. I have ordered one of the panel backing and will try repairing one of them.

Your absolutely right, it’s a bad design from the start but it is more practical being that plastic is more lighter than metal, if they implemented just the bottom half of the back cover metal it can work instead of the whole back being made of metal and adding a considerate amount of more weight. I guess they look at it from the consumers POV but don’t really care about the cons etc; not alot of people like you actually become aware of the problem but instead think it’s their fault for breaking so kudos to you for figuring it out.

How did it go? Mine had the same problem. Where did you buy the parts and did you use this video as a guide?

is there an alterative quick fix for this? my screen seems to be popping out when i try to close it furhter and open it further becuase of the hinge. I'm afriad to close it and the screen gets more messed up. Currently, the PC is working fine i just can't fold it down all the way or open it all the way

Try holding the corner of the screen or holding the hinge with your hand firmly every time you open or close it

I don’t think it’s a good idea for a beginner to try… it’s harder than it looks to be honest! You can definitely try it if you’re up for it. Have you got any quotes to fix it?

I normally would charge around $150. Sometimes it can be a lot of work
