I am a protestant and say this there is nothing to beat the majesty of a formal procession to start matins or mass. It sets the tone of the service. And a well played. Church organ, surpasses the racket from drums and guitars.
Absolutely, I'm a Presbyterian director of music and our church in order to stay alive is actually allowing all that racket, no more proper hymns throughout the service....and no formal prayers for the world or members for fear of being sued for HIPA regs for mentioning a persons particular ailment in public. Always wished I was of Catholic linage or at least Episcopalian . On Christmas Eve, I lead our Church service then I go to the bigger city near me and watch a Catholic and Episcopalian one, just for the majesty, which a just God deserves, not dressing in the same attire we'd go out on a date in and for service music , using the same kind of melodies we'd woo a new boy or girlfriend with the synthesizers and drums and tech screens. This pageantry above was simply sublime to put it mildly. Fantastic version of SINE NOMINE...one of the grandest of hymns. Beautiful singing and cathedral.
This is magnificent. My dad was a Lutheran pastor. These are the services I grew up with. This hymn was played at my mom's funeral. To God be the glory, now and forever
@@SaintMarksChurchPhiladelphiaYou've taught them to sing? What did you do, send them all to a parish church in the UK for a year!? In all seriousness though, this is such a major difference 'across the pond'. At least until recently, students were taught to sing, and usually sing parts, in UK primary schools. Whether 'public' or state. The same is obviously not true in the states. It does sound like the congregation is singing - so whatever you've done to encourage it, keep going! IIRC I first heard about this church around 2004 when I met someone at the Wanamaker Organ Day. He might have been the erstwhile organist. In any case he told me of a very high church Episcopalian church in Philly with a large AS pipe organ. Had to be this one ;-). Glad I can finally visit, virtually at least.
One of my classmates lost her sister at the age 26 years and ever since I called up a Mortuary to relay to the Family that I'm Praying for them they're non Catholic! Eternal Rest Grant upon Bryanna Marie Kernaghan and May Thy Perpetual Light Shine Upon her!! May She Rest in Peace!!
I'd love to visit this church. The music selections are spot on and the organist is heavenly. It just seems like 'The Church'. A visit there is definitely on my bucket list.
@@gregorymiller2977 The Episcopal Church has some of the greatest hymns. The organist in this church does them justice with clear crisp renditions. Music in the middle ages often helped spread The Word of God as many were illiterate. Together with the many symbols placed throughout the service, it helped tell the story of Christianity. I think we should try it again today as many have become “illiterate” to The Word of God.
Great Hymn! Great organist and well sung by congregation. It is possible to change the video mixer setting so it switches between cameras normally instead of dissolving to black between each camera change. God bless!
i am Catholic, but i would love to go to that Church once in awhile so i could experience some peace, and not have to barf from the stupid songs we sing at Mass nowadays.
It sounds as though your people on the worship team are also using those “7-11” type of of church music. Mine and my husband and I are members of a Baptist church that are using those redundant “7-11” songs. Thanks to Hillsong Church from Australia! That is supposedly which is same “model” church influencing many churches around the globe by implementing those “7-11” songs in possibly all churches irregardless of denominational preferences.
The service was designed for an illiterate population of the middle ages. It was very important that the Gospel was told using all 5 senses like an angelic play. Some Churches have diminished the message by eliminating parts of the delivery. I personally like all the bells and whistles and as an alter boy the sounds of the Eucharist gave me goosebumps.
One of my favorite hymns, so long as the organ has an outrageous 16' reed. A rattling posaune will do. An extra 32' reed is also nice. Either way, three of the verses should be reed heavy, and the pedal has to march steadily throughout. Oh my, how I do miss playing. If anyone out there knows the organist, please give her a high five from an old, retired organist.
It's not virtually empty. There were about 100 people there. But this is a Wednesday evening service. How many churches do you know that are full on Wednesday evenings? (Or even Sundays, for that matter.)
@@SaintMarksChurchPhiladelphia We do not have services on Wednesday evening, but Sundays are packed, requiring multiple times and venues. In our area the Catholic diocese is reducing the number of parishes from 130 to 35. I am not RC but am saddened by the decline. I love the grand cathedrals but get sad at seeing great churches virtually empty. A few years ago I was in St Stephan’s in Vienna, and only 50 worshippers were there for Sunday mass.

St. Mark's is an Episcopal church. It's a "high church" following Anglo-Catholic tradition, which is all of the processions, incense, and sung prayers etc.
THE PIPE ORAN IN THIS CHURCH IS MAGNIFICENT.
Wonderful...Be Blessed & Well...Pax et Bonum! I belong to St Ann's Episcopal Church in Woodstock IL.
The organist is phenomenal....registration is spot on. Tempo great. Be great to sing in this church.

This is indeed a Protestant church: an Anglo-Catholic Episcopalian parish
Music and liturgy most beautifully rendered - well done!
I AGREE , IN THE NAME OF JESUS CHRIST
Absolutely brilliant organist !
One of my favorite hymns growing up. The reverence and sacredness of preparing the alter for worship is so amazing and beautiful to witness 🙏
i love this hymn. i remember the descant i learned in college
Yes we are surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses
it's the incense
Dad and I loved this song....what a way to start the day!!!
High church at its finest. All the smells and bells that go with it too.
Rest in peace, ma'am!

yep. he is a professional

It's predominantly the congregation you hear singing, not the choir!

I am Catholic. On Easter we sang Christ the Lord is Risen Today to 2 guitars and a piano. Not the same as an organ.
I am a Protestant and wholly agree with you. Strumming guitarists are an absolute menace. God bless you and yours.
Thank you Jesus Christ Our Savior and Shepherd
Wonderful singing & organ. My favourite hymn.
Love the procession, reminds me of my boys.
Wonderful rendition of a glorious hymn! 🙏🙏🙏

Thank you recording this in stereo and great sound quality. What a great sounding choir and organist playing. Praise to our Lord Almighty.
Beautifull.

Very few people in the pews. This is a nice organ solo.
Yah you are right because a woman is serving at the alter.
In the Episcopal Church woman are allowed.
Spendid, but need more congregation.

Just curious… does OneLicense podcast/streaming package allow individual hymns to be posted to TH-cam. Looking for my own church.
As a general rule yes though not all publishers permit. However, this hymn is in the public domain so there are no copyright issues.
