    This is helpful visual information. I'm a 40-year survivor of cancer in the nasopharynx with severe, and still- worsening, swallowing & eating difficulties - thanks to damage from tons of radiation & chemo. With no real help from the medical community, I've started my own research & proactive approach to finding some relief. This video has helped me gain a little better understanding of what's going wrong.

      This was great, I have been researching "how do i know if my shingles are healing?" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you heard people talk about - Paneah Nonpareil Paramountcy - (do a search on google ) ? It is an awesome one of a kind guide for discovering how to get rid of your shingles without the normal expense. Ive heard some super things about it and my neighbour got amazing results with it.

    This is so good. I was diagnosed with Esophageal cancer in Feb 21 after doing a Barium test and and endoscopy. They found Barrets esophagus. My food pipe was so badly damaged, I couldn't swallow hard meats. I hiccupped and coughed when I tried to swallow. Luckily they found it early and I received chemo radiotherapy then surgery and now I am receiving immunotherapy. God willing it won't come back.

    Hello Dr. Campbell Excellent popular presentation of swallowing mechanism.
    I believe Glossopharyngeal forces pushes bolus all the way to the anterior cervical spine and that turns bolus downward and then Autonomous forces are taking over. I believe this is important stage of the swallowing mechanism. If anything interferes with Glossopharyngeal forces then we Dysphagia cowman problem with Anterior Cervical Fusion.
    With all respect. Dr. Zarije Djurovic

    Great video! I don't have much knowledge of medicine, but the material was so clear and interesting that I watched it all (I came here only to check how the food doesn't get into lungs). However, one thing remains unclear - does it work the same way with drinks? There are people who are able to drink really fast. Are they able to turn off the first stage of deglutition and swallow it without pressing their tongue to the hard palate (I was unable to manage to do it myself)? If so, does the epiglottis closes during the process, or the closing reflex is somehow triggered by the tongue movement to the hard palate?

    • @Campbellteaching
      @Campbellteaching  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Zilvinas Steckevicius For sure the epiglottis must close, or the fluid would run into the lungs. While some people may learn to modify the voluntary components of the process, the process for drinks and solids is essentially the same.

      +ikua EREN Im sorry your daughter is so unwell, if she has a tracheotomy, your doctors and nurses will be able to manage her airway very well. They will prevent her from aspirating by doing tracheal suction. I do hope she makes a full recovery.

    Can the food be stuck somewhere between the epiglottis and the esophagus, on the “bridge” between.. so the food bothers you every time you eat, and it makes you breath harder, like when something gets stuck in some kind of valve... is that just paranoia and actually secret that combines there because of panicking... a hypochondriac asking over here 👋🏼

      There can be swallowing difficulties for many reasons of course, this is called dysphagia, for example it is common after a stroke.

      @Campbellteaching  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cough has many causes and you need to see your doctor. However, does you dad have any problems with acid reflux from the stomach? This is an often overlooked cause of the form of cough you describe.
