You can't really say one single method is better than all the other learning & practice methods, but if we were to pick just one way to continue improving your Korean, we would pick "writing in your journal in Korean every day."
    Only diaries?
Of course this can be done not only in a journal but also on social media or in video format (e.g. on TH-cam). The basic idea is that as long as you keep doing this regularly (ideally every day), you will quickly and naturally find words and grammar points that you do not know yet, and since journal entries are about your day-to-day life, you will become more curious to know these things than when you study with sample phrases in a book.
    How do you start?
Just start by simply writing down whatever you can think of in Korean. Single-word entries are fine too. Gradually you will feel the want and need to form longer and more complete sentences as you spend more time thinking about things you want to say in Korean. It's quite simple.
What if I don't know a certain word or a grammar point?
You can easily look up words in online dictionaries (we recommend endic.naver.com ) and also look up grammar points and sentence patterns in our curriculum page ( talktomeinkorean.com/curriculum ).
Give it a try and you will love finding what you don't know and also the experience of being able to write things you couldn't before!

I practice my Korean every day and before each of my lessons, I write about my day. It’s super helpful and although my entries started out super short and simple, as you learn, you can slowly apply more grammar and sentence structures. Additionally, when writing about your day, you can learn words that relate to your life and interests. It’s super helpful, and if you do it long enough, you can look back and see how you progress ☺️

  • @ribonette_

This is actually a very good advice, and it's somtheing I did several years ago (without even knowing lmao). My mother tongue is spanish, but started learning english since I was 5. I was fluent in a conversational level, but writing I was a bit slower. So, when I was a teenager (as any teen girl) I started a diary, and decided to do it in english (at that time it was cuz I didn't want someone to find it and read my secrets lol). But it actually helped me to write faster (since english words can be written differently from how you pronounce it) and to learn more vocabulary.
What I wanna say is, this suggestion actually brought me back memories, and since I'm slowly learning Korean (mostly from online sites, thnx quarantine) it will help a lot. Thanks for the help!

To be honest I'm not really good at expressing myself and writing in journals so what I do is to keep some kind of lyrics journal(?) where I write the lyrics of a song I like and then look up the words I don't know, that way when you hear the song again you'll remember the meaning of that word and also you start to see a lot of common words in those songs... it really helps you to know more vocabulary and you also start to notice some grammar patterns and as the video says you get curious about how to use them... I used to do this while learning English so I decided to start doing it with Korean 😊

i try to write journal entries in korean whenever i'm able to. it's actually a really helpful concept because you retain the vocabulary you use better, it's really good grammar practice if you use it in conjunction with a structured lesson plan and it covers a wide range of subject matter. its also been really helpful because as i've learned more grammar i've been able to go back to previous journal entries and point out my grammatical errors (if i put a present tense verb where a past tense one should be, etc.). being honest, the journal entries are what i think have been the most important step i took in improving my understanding of korean, especially korean grammar.

Hey Hyunwoo! Great video and I liked this video format a lot because it actually feels like you are really talking to us. My Korean teacher wants us to keep a daily journal as well and it really does work! I can only recommend. Anyway thanks for your great tips! I am definitely looking forward to the upcoming videos. Little side note: When I was in Korea this summer I went to this exact place to play basketball with my friends and this video made me recall these beautiful memories! And I also saw you at a shopping mall nearby but I was too shy to say hi because you were talking to someone. 😊 Greetings from Germany

There are plenty of native Korean speakers who are trying to improve their English who would be happy to speak Korean with you in exchange for you speaking English with them.
You can find a Korean pen pal to video chat with on various online forums. Or if you would prefer to speak in person, you could find someone in your area by going to Korean churches or supermarkets or some kind of Korean community center in your area.
Nomatter how slowly you speak or how awkward it feels in the beginning, just chat a bit every day and you will improve faster than you realize.
Just 15 minutes of Korean and 15 minutes of English, more or less. You can start with only 5 minutes of each language and add on time as you improve. Keep journaling, too.
Between writing a little bit daily and speaking a little bit daily, you will really start to improve.

    Tips to learn:
    1. Learn the alphabet.
    2. Learn the phonetics (how to pronounce/speak/intonation).
    3. Stock vocabulary. Watch kpop lyric vids. Watch kdramas. Listen to kpop. Follow korean accts in ig or twt. Decode.
    4. Learn Korean syntax (grammar/sentence structure).
    5. Learn Korean semantics (meaning).
    6. While doing all of the above, gradually learn the pragmatics (when, where, how, to whom, with whom to use the words/phrases) of Korean language.
    7. Never be afraid of mistakes.
