As usual, no matter how long I spend making a video, I'll always remember a point I wanted to add right as I'm uploading it and don't have the time to go back and change anything. So let's call this a TH-cam comments EXCLUSIVE BONUS!
I want to see what Retro's been working on, and I want it to be more or less like I was saying in the prediction video. An adventure game with new characters and a story and really engaging gameplay. No returning franchises, not a sidescroller, not a primarily-multiplayer game. Something big and truly new for Nintendo.

Unless Odyssey gets dlc kingdoms, I really hope we don't have to wait for another console for another 3d Mario game. If the Switch is so great and successful then it should be able to last long enough to get another 3d Mario.

As crazy as it sounds, I want a Tomodachi Life sequel. In my opinion, it’s a very underrated 3ds game
I couldn’t agree more! I loved that game, and whenever I ask for a sequel everyone says “miitopia” or “miitomo” (which was terrible) but I really don’t think those count. I think it’s possible because of its success in Japan, but they’ll just have to do something about same-sex marriages which everyone hated them for.

KitCloud1 Dude, I agree wholeheartedly. DK64 doesn't get nearly the love it deserves. It's possible, though, that Rare (now Microsoft) owns the newcomers from that game, like Lanky and Chunky, which would steal some of the nostalgia points if Nintendo tried reintroducing much of that game's concepts. I'm tired of such a great game only living on in memes of its theme song. :-( Go DK Switch!
My #1 thing I want for the Switch is a Mario 64 DLC for Super Mario Odyssey. SERIOUSLY, can you imagine going to the Mushroom Kingdom and entering peach's castle to find Bob-Omb Battlefield and Jolly Roger Bay, along with all the other levels!? I mean, they already have lots of assets, like some sound effects such as collecting a star and entering a painting, and the models like the trees, log posts, coins, toads, and many enemies, not to mention the textures they could reuse or slightly alter. It would be fairly cheap to produce and they could charge something like $20 for it. Mario Odyssey would truly become my favorite game of all time if Nintendo pulled this off.
Or they could just remake Mario 64 on the Odyssey engine and make it better somehow.... I mean I'd pay full-price for that tbh. The last Mario 64 remake we got was on the DS... 14 years ago.

I'm one of those who had a GameBoy, DS and 3DS but never had a Nintendo home console until Switch, so I would highly appreciate a collection of the first 3 Pikmins on the Switch, like they did with Bayo1&2. This way I could enjoy those classics and jump on that Pikmin 4 hype train!

If Nintendo keeps taking risks and actually listening to fans... MAYBE WE WILL GET A PAPER MARIO LIKE THE FIRST TWO! (or maybe even first three). I really like Super Paper Mario but I feel that most fans would definitely prefer to have the game be like the first two.

I also hope the Switch lasts long enough for another Zelda game, 2D or 3D. I would like to be able to own a system with more than 1 Zelda game and a few ports lol (Like the GameCube with Wind Waker and Twilight Princess)

Mordin Solis Uhm... GameCube may not have sold well but it has some of the best games in the history of video games. GameCube games are among the top tier when it comes it that conversation and bringing those to switch in some way is a no brainer.
The gamecube failed to sell because it was completely outclassed feature-wise by PS2, not because it had games that didn't appeal to anyone. The gamecube's library is probably one of the best libraries on a nintendo home system since games first started going 3D.
If they released a Metroid Prime with amazing graphics and it got amazing reviews in this day and age, it would sell like friggin hotcakes. Remember, when the gamecube was around, the internet wasn't nearly as used, and popularity or quality of games was not as easily propagated. These days if a big developer's game knocks it out of the park, everyone will know. We saw it with Nier Automata: a series that had 0 popularity outside of cult following prior to Automata's release. These days, amazing games are easily recognized by the public.
Lads4Life But the Gamecube is also one of the most controversial Nintendo console, if you think about it there are a lot of games which people inititially loved and then started to hate on (Mario Sunshine, Sonic Adventure DX, Sonic Adventure 2, Sonic Heroes ecc...). Idk how much of a good idea is to bring these games back. (I’m really sorry if I made any mistakes but I don’t live in an english country and english wasn’t my first language)

Even though I don't believe it will come out this year, the one game I truly want this year is Smash on the Switch.
I go out and meet up with friends all the time and almost every time we're out, we always wish we could just play smash on the Switch.

5:30 Looking at this now, after the Let's Go reveal, this almost seems mildly prophetic, what with the first image showing both Pikachu and Eevee.
I LOVE arlos idea for animal crossing multiplayer! Walking up to your shops and seeing all your friends hanging out would be amazing! Of course i would also like to still be able to go straight to my friends town but i think nintendo should build on this idea somehow.

KyroSkee I honestly wouldn’t mind a Zelda maker game. You can make dungeons in the styles of the first game, LTTP, Minish Cap, and A Link Between Worlds. A shrine maker would be interesting, but how would that work with the 3D environments? Honestly I would take either one if they got them to work right. That would be so cool!

As cool as it would be, they'll never do it. Like, look at Wario Land, it was never a popular series, and I don't think Wario Ware did much better. At best, Waluigi is just a meme, and having him star in his own game is just not feasible

Yes! Finally I'm not the only one who wants another Donkey Kong game.
Analog triggers are crucial for competitive SSBM. And with Super Mario Sunshine while it's not impossible to play without it, the ability to spray water while walking is super helpful for multiple missions including EVERY shadow Mario mission. Both of which are arguably among the top 10 games Nintendo fans want to see on the Virtual Console early.

0:57 *Pikmin 4* - Nope. Didn't get officially revealed or released. However, it would finally be officially announced at Nintendo Direct September 2022 and was released for Nintendo Switch in July 2023. The game would also be a soft reboot of the franchise.
2:25 *Super Mario Maker 2* - Nope. Didn't happen. However, it would get revealed at Nintendo Direct February 2019 and was released in June 2019.
3:06 *Luigi's Mansion 3* - Half Right! It didn't release in 2018, but it got announced at Nintendo Direct September 2018! The game would also be a proper sequel to Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon but return to a "open-world" mansion format from one and be released for Nintendo Switch on Halloween 2019. Ironically, the game's big new feature was 2 player local co-op.
4:39 *Metroid Prime 4 Gameplay Reveal* - Nope. I didn't happen, and as of 14th of April 2024, it has yet to happen due to the game getting rebooted by Retro Studios in January 2019.
5:30 *New Pokémon Switch Information* - Right...? It did happen, kinda. We didn't get a new trailer for it, but we did get a 2019 release and confirmation that it would be traditional new generation games (Gen 8). The games would instead be revealed as "Pokémon Sword & Shield" during a Pokémon Direct on Pokémon Day 2019 and was released for Nintendo Switch during November 2019. However, we did get a reimagening of Pokémon Yellow to Nintendo Switch called "Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! & Let's Go Eevee", which was announced in May 2018 and released for Nintendo Switch November 2018 ()the new information about Pokémon Switch did happen at the Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! & Let's Go, Eevee! reveal as well).

The game would be revealed as "Animal Crossing: New Horizons", was announced with a 2019 release but got delayed to March 2019, where it finally released for Nintendo Switch. The game's theme was deserted islands and not farming, but it did include more famring elements though. The game featured proper 2 player local multiplayer and 8 player local wireless and online multiplayer, with Dream Islands getting released some months after launch with a free update, but it unfortunately didn't include a online hub or anything like that though.
8:12 *Hopes Nintendo Switch Online is smooth and easy to use + Hopes everyones dream wishes happens* - Nope and nope. Let's say both didn't happen. Nintendo Switch Online was launched in September 2018 and was basically the same as free but now behind a paywall and did include a app with special features and voice chat in it.

It didn't happen and got replaced by Nintendo Switch Online - a service that included some old games and was included for "free" with the online multiplayer paywall. It would lanuch with only NES games, with SNES Online in September 2019, Nintendo 64 Online and Sega Mega Drive Online in October2019 (though behind the higher price tier "Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack", which also launched then) and Game Boy Online & Game Boy Advance Online (the last one was exclusive for Expansion Pass) in February 2023. As of writing this comment, the Virtual Console has yet to return and is extremely unlikely to do so.
9:07 *Nintendo GameCube Virtual Console* - Nope. It didn't happen and, as of writing this comment, has yet to happen, but could happen in the future. However, Nintendo has ported over and remastered several GameCube titles for Nintendo Switch, such as Metroid Prime, Pikmin 1 & 2 and Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door (though that last one hasn't released yet). As with the trigger shoulder buttons, they have yet to be a issue for the GameCube games on Nintendo Switch.

Third-party support was strong this year with games like Fortnite and Diablo III getting ported (the last one as "Diablo III: Eternal Collection". As of collabds, we did get Star Fox content in the Ubisoft game Starlink: Battle For Atlas, which was released in October 2018. We didn't get a brand new Nintendo game by a third-party developer, but it has happen in the future with Ninendo Switch with games like Cadence of Hyrule: Crypt of the NecroDancer feat. The Legend of Zelda by Brace Yourself Games in June 2019 and Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp, a remake of the original Advance Wars & Advance Wars 2: Black Hole Rising, by WayForward in April 2023 after several years of delays.
12:56 *Pull the plug on the Nintendo 3DS support* - Nope. It got fewer games this year than in 2017, but we still got more games like WarioWare Gold & a remaster of the original Luigi's Mansion. Nintnedo would pull the plug in March 2019 though after extremely poor sales with Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr's Journey, a remaster of Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story released in Januar 2019. The last Nintendo game for the system was Kirby's Extra Epic Yarn, a port of Kirby's Epic Yarn, released in Match 2019 and the last major third-party game was Persona Q2: New Cimena Labyrinth by Atlus (Sega) in June 2019 overseas (November 2018 in Japan).

The first half of the year was full of ports while the second half was Nintendo Switch Online and a few more games (one of which being Super Smash Bros. Ultimate). Outisde of Smash, it was a very weak year for Nintendo Switch, but it's understandable that 2018 would be more of a "break yeart" after such a strong year like 2017. It's only natural!
COMMENT EXCLUSIVE BONUS: *Retro Studios Project is a new IP and it's a huge adventure game* - Nope. We didn't get to see it and whatever it was has it been cancelled. Yes, it's, as of writing this comment, unknown what the project even was. It could have been a huge adventure game, but it could also have been something completely different.
15:24 *The Super Mario Odyssey Holiday DLC Prediciton Correction* - In my opinon, this was nice to include, but I personally don't think it's that big of a deal since Nintendo usually calls the holiday by a different, more neutral name anyway (though a Easter theme would make more sense than a Thanksgiving one). Also, outside of free content updates with Luigi's Balloon World and smaller stuff like costumes and Camera filters, we sadly didn't get paid DLC or any big new singleplayer content for Super Mario Odyssey at all.
As for myself, I personally wanted Smash and Super Mario Maker, and I finally got Smash with Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. I'm actually surprised you didn't mention it here with just how HUGE of a fan demand it was for it at that time.

My main hopes for Nintendo 2018 is, well, revivals. DLC as a concept adds a lot of longevity to games if done right. Mario and Zelda are already out on the Switch. We know Pokemon and Metroid are coming but as Arlo said, unlikely for 2018 for various reasons. I think its time Nintendo stopped beating around the bush and just plain bring back stuff that's been left at the wayside. Things like F-Zero, Golden Sun, Advance Wars, more traditional Mario Party, and the like. Bring back older stuff that while maybe not given the HUGE scope/size of a Zelda or Mario, is enough to give fans excitement and can be more easily stacked over time than the 'one big hit a year and that's it' the WiiU had and the first year of the Switch avoided.
There's just one problem with what you said, a lot of games that are pretty left out for nintendo aren't Nintendo properties. For example Golden Sun and Advance Wars aren't from Nintendo.
A possible solution is to 'revive' these franchises under a different brand - many Switch owners won'tve heard of, say, Advance Wars anyway (and those who have will recognise this ""new"" IP is actually AW).
We've already had that indie AW clone on Switch, and everyone noticed it was a clone and it attracted a ton of attention because of it - Nintendo could do that to themselves.

Dogman_35 Because the teaser said "Now in development". We don't know how far that is. Remember, we got a teaser TRAILER for Breath of the Wild in 2014 and it didn't come out until 2017

+Nintendoman1998 Well on top of it being the Wii U, an annoyingly hard to develop for console, and Nintendo's ONLY game to get that many delays from it's original date... it was also their first shot at open world in a first party game _ever_ and took a longer time to develop than they were expecting. Not a single Switch game has been delayed. Mario Odyssey came _earlier_ than expected. They're living up to their promise of not announcing games so early another BotW situation happens, so far.

It's pretty much definite that Nintendo didn't announce Metroid Prime 4 right after they started developing it. Too many things could go wrong during development, either within development (something they had planned to be a core part turns out to not work, or they discover the game works better without some core Metroid mechanics, or something) or without (core plot elements lining up uncomfortably close to the next 9/11, or shooters taking a market nosedive, or something).
Not to mention that game marketing is carefully calculated and planned in advance; it's theoretically possible to plan a marketing campaign which launches years ahead of launch and slowly builds up hype, but it would be difficult to maintain even without the almost inevitable schedule slip.
I agree, however they may have just been trying to show that they are changing. They might have seen what people were saying about how they had no fan service during wii u days - so they were like LETS GET MAKIN' THAT GAME NOW!!!!
It would be nice for Nintendo to remaster the original Metroid prime games. The series has been dormant for a while and it could help sales of prime 4.

Its clear that unless your the best company ever, like you could say Nintendo, you can hype it years ahead, but sometimes you get no mans sky -an absolute disappointment at first and slowly attempting to get it better.
The counter argument would likely be that, while this tends to be problem for a game's marketing campaign (and not something Nintendo normally does), it makes a lot of sense if the announcement was made for the console's/company's/IP's marketing instead. Likely a large part of the reason Samus Returns was so quickly well-received was because we had the announcement paired with another announcement that felt so obviously like Nintendo finally "got it". And the fact that the announcement makes us think of Nintendo in that way, may mean that the announcement was made less for the game itself and more for the IP and Switch/Nintendo brand overall.
It could still mean that they are well along in development, but considering how the game was announced and potentially why, it may just as well have been announced earlier for other reasons.

Btws, the reason Pikmin development is so slow is the same team that does those games is responsible for 2D Mario. So they weren’t really working on it until Mario Maker 2 was abandoned. And don’t forget all those “New Super Marios” they were making for years.

If you aren't already being matched with Japan, being matched with them now will make your disconnect problem worse. It's ping based matchmaking, so you're being connected to people with better connections to you. You're basically asking them to make it an even bigger problem.

If Nintendo pulled the plug on the 3ds, that would force parents to buy a home console for their kids and create a bit of a hassle. The PS Vita as far as I know is still doing decently well and it has been around for quite some time. The 3ds at this point is already quite powerful, and being able to make smaller games that are just as efficient and fun as the bigger titles on the consoles, and take it anywhere, is a big strength. The switch has a pretty low battery life when it comes to portability, and the 3ds doesn't have any big downsides. They could probably only make it more powerful in the future. To sum it all up, killing the 3ds is not good.

The Vita's only really doing fine in Japan, everywhere else it's basically just an indie machine. I do agree that the Switch isn't an ideal first handheld, being tablet sized makes it less practical for smaller pockets, but I'm not sure what you mean by home consoles being a bit of a hassle for younger gamers.
