    Everyone else’s hour and a half FTL TH-cam video = entire run
    Mike’s hour and a half FTL video = flagship fight
    Love it :)

      I've come to terms with being slow. Naturally, it took me a long time.

      it really would be. to go the entirety of the run and not find any viable weapons or hacking to add-on would be a feat in itself lol

    Of all the starting weapons to keep, zoltan b has the best. Being able to shield hack and deal high damage and disable 2 weapons is pretty good for a long time if you need it to be, though in this case, its a different playstyle.

    • @mikehopley
      @mikehopley  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Yeah I wanted to see what it's like without hacking. I took them into sector 5 before in a "real" game, but not much experience of it.

    I'm really surprised at the fact that you didn't die Phase 3 with this weapon settup. I had something similar in one run. I had the Slug B run where I had Ion Blast II, Pike Beam and Artemis missile at the end... and I was playing on normal! RNG just sort of screwed me over on stores and I kind of regret selling that Hermes missile when I didn't need to sell it (I could afford cloaking and hacking at that store without selling). This wasn't the first run where the stores insisted on either not selling weapons or selling only missles and fire bombs. With the Hermes I would have the option of turning off the Beam or Ion Blast (probably the Ion Blast), firing 2 missiles into shields, then switch to Ion and Beam. I thought this would be impossible after I brain farted and hacked mind control instead of shields but I survived with 4 hull left. And you managed to beat the flagship on hard with a weaker settup than what I had.

    What track alternates with Last Stand? I don't recognize it from Ben's unofficial album.
    Also, I just noticed the Flagship's projectiles don't actually come from their individual turrets, but rather all of them fire from the middle. I feel so betrayed by Subset Games.

      It's Night Zen from his Fragments album. And good observation!

    This video is proof that good weapons are honestly a bit overrated in FTL, what wins battles far more often is good systems. Of course, you do need *enough* weaponry to break through shielding...but the margin for that is not as demanding as some people think, and actually on the reasonable side given the choices in most games.

    • @mikehopley
      @mikehopley  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yep, you can get a lot done with systems and "good enough" weapons. This example is a bit extreme, but it makes the point IMO that Zoltan B doesn't need to rush an offensive upgrade and can just be safe by getting one shield online ASAP and 2 shields online by sector 3.

    Bro decided after 45 minutes to finally stop messing around and destroy the Flagship's first phase.

    • @mikehopley
      @mikehopley  ปีที่แล้ว

      More like, "Flagship decided after 45 minutes to not dodge anything and let me kill it" (well apart from all the time spent pausing but let's not mention that).

      @@mikehopley Seemed to me like you had it basically at gunpoint several times and called off your ions when they were just about to take the shields down.

    • @mikehopley
      @mikehopley  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@HumanoidDerpling No, I stopped firing because I had missed already, and I knew it was going to cloak and shrug off the ion damage. You need to start with the ions already charged when it comes out of cloak. That's why I didn't even try firing until after its second cloak.

    Nice boss fight! Thanks for the upload.
    Btw, the Flagship is 1 'additional' crew short after stage 1: in phase 2 there are 9 crew instead of 10 (11-1), in phase 3 there are 8 crew instead of 9 (11-2).
    Does Flagship always teleport 1 crew on the 1st teleport cycle?

    • @mikehopley
      @mikehopley  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Good observation, I was wondering the same thing. Rebel Elites sometimes do this in the late game when they have a lot of crew. I'm not sure why. It could just be the crew count, but I think it's probably more involved. In the last few days we've had new information on Discord from Znix, who is looking at all the code and even made a tool to observe the crew AI! gitlab.com/znixian/FTL-test-tool/-/releases/v1.0

    • @outryder7773
      @outryder7773 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mikehopley Thank you for the insight about the tool!
      I have made a lot of observations on the AI crew behaviour in a form of text notes and screenshots: repairs without boarders, mind control cases, priority during boarding. Most of these notes were tested multiple times. However, I didn't have passion to tinker with publishing them - there is a very niche 'demand' for them. Those, who would be potentially 'interested', would, most likely, rely on their own profound experience.
      So, I decided to put some work in organizing Wiki instead, because it covers the widest audience and can be most useful altogether.
      P.S. Mike, I have some wild-speculations-based questions about fires. Since you and TheSwiftTiger looked into the topic earlier, you might have tested or are able to adequately test:
      1) Does 'overoxygenating' (having active O2 level 2 or 3) increase the fires spread (in the room/between rooms)?
      2) Do 2-3 fires in a 4-tile room speed-up another fire spawn in the room?

    • @mikehopley
      @mikehopley  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@outryder7773 (1) Over-oxygenating doesn't matter, except that it can stop fires from burning themselves out by removing the O2. (2) Yes, more adjacent tiles on fire = higher chance to spread to that tile

    • @mikehopley
      @mikehopley  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Oh, I have a theory for why the Flagship lost a crew each phase. I think it's because they were mind-controlled when it blew up.

    • @outryder7773
      @outryder7773 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mikehopley Interesting. I would need to test it, when the occasion comes. Yet I will add this assumption as a snippet to the Wiki task for this case.
