Although I'm 5 years late to this video (I wasn't even a classical musician yet), I'm still grateful to have found this recording, Bruckner, and this singular symphony! Such a ectasy-triggering and monumental work, I must reference this in my own compositions!
I'll always a remember a mammoth concert I attended several years ago in London. The first half was Chopin first piano concerto, followed by several of his solo piano pieces. The second half was Bruckner 8. The whole concert was around 3 1/2 hours long, with applause. We got our money's worth that night. 🙂
Once attended a Pittsburgh Symphony Concert conducted by William Steinberg. He opened with the Bruckner Te Deum. After the intermission, he finished with the Bruckner 8th. Epic.
Hervorragend!
I'm old, and have heard many, many recordings of this symphony. Of those, this is certainly one of the best performances of it, and I think the most thrilling. The magnificent coda Bruckner wrote is especially well-realized here.
I’m going to look up more performances by this conductor and orchestra, because this is a great performance that fulfills the profound emotions of Bruckner’s symphony. This conductor asks for depth from the musicians, and they respond beautifully. I love the dark richness of this German orchestra’s sound. Thank you for a truly worthwhile concert experience. Special congratulations to the Principal Clarinet, Principal Horn, Concertmaster and Conductor!
This is Very tricky coda to pull off It's not how the symphony should really end It should have more to say Brucnker he could have said it better Instead we have this fanfare It absolutely brilliant It had to be because He dedicated the symphony the Emperor Franz Joseph.
Bewundernswert!
Yes, never heard that before and Ive been listening to Bruckner's symphonies avidly for nearly half-a-century now! Mind you, new editions of the scores seem to be cropping up almost every year now so it is possible it is one of those. Very effective and dramatic, I agree.
Super eindrucksvoll.
Obrigado!
THAT'S KIND OF A HARD QUESTION, RIGHT? Seriously - we're happy we get to perform so many amazing pieces of music every season, especially now with audiences back in the auditorium. But Bruckner 8 is always a favorite!
20:47 , does anyone else in the Scherzo picture sky with passing surreal beings floating on the horizons felt like from those mid-20th century paintings
Those of us who are familiar with this work may question the extent of the timpani crescendo at 1:24:53 but overall this was a performance worthy of its sublime composer.
I've never been a big fan of Honeck. There are times when he's different just to be different. But not with this Bruckner 8th. It's absolutely magnificent. Right up there with Jascha Horenstein.
Bruckner, the one between Beethoven and Brahms, needs a resurrection, as I see it. His odds are not so good these days, even if his name starts with a B. Let us help him to survive, his music is always worth listening to. Please click Let Bruckner survive.
No disrespect intended, but Bruckner is doing quite well in the concert hall and in recordings. His music is being performed and recorded more than ever before. He needs no "resurrection." Best wishes from Vermont ❄️💙❄️
Honek gets it. Bruckner should not be rushed. It is not a race. It is the building of a cathedral. An edifice to the almighty.

The most amazing perfect performance of the Bruckner 8th I’ve ever heard.
Thank you very much! 🥰

Honeck is utterly the best conductor currently working. By far.
Rich and transparent sound from a fine orchestra and the best conductor in the world currently

What a truly stunning coda! Muscular Bruckner with no holds barred ... just as I like him!
Exactly. With the timpanist not holding back as well

An excellent interpretation and performance of the evocative Bruckner masterwork.
Thank you very much!

Honeck's Bruckner brought me to tears so many times
Very understandable 🤗

Wow! I don't know if that timpani part is actually written but it sure sounds very effective at 1:24:56 ! BRAVO
Thanks and congratulations to both orchestra and director for a magnificent performance!!

Wow! That was just about the most perfect interpretation of the Adagio coda that I have ever heard. Left me shaken.
Thank you very much! 🤗
I hope you heard the version of Celibidache and the Münchner Philharmoniker

Honeck should conduct German orchestras more often!
I swear this long pause before the finale the complete silence and then the sweat drop running at 1:04:51 .that suspense is insane
😄
maybe the greatest symphony ever? Beethoven's 9th, Brahms' 3rd, Dvoraks' 7th and 9th, Mahler 6th... what else?

I think 1887 version is better than 1890 version.
I hope maestro Honeck became to be the successor of Georg Tintner.

Kleiberabklatsch...
