Thank you for taking the time. What changed my perspective on the pickups is that I am all about high gain and not letting the listener appreciate all the sounds of the band is collaborative order. My outlook has improved. Thanks again.
this might be the best all time demo vid. I listen to him speak and how he struggles with trying to explain stuff to common folk just a testament oh how deep his mind is into his world of music. So humble to take the time. how he applies tonalities and themes and creates aural scapes like each song is a journey. What a treasure. saw 3 different times in hollywood with the dixie dregs . and actually the whole band amazing
Man man man...this guy is the real deal. He almost feels the pain for not being able to speak as fast as his thoughts...and guys tell me if you had the same feeling: he simplifies everything he says to make things clear to us humans... Oh and apart from that, he might just be one of the best guitar players around, real playing, no whammy tricks... way to go Steve!!!!!!
For me, the most impressive thing is that the interviewer keeps his mouth closed like he's not at all shocked by the amazingly complex technical approach Steve shows us in this video. Such a huge lesson for all of us, and I know if I was there, I wouldn't be able to hold myself. Steve is always gentle, humble and plays very complex techniques, that simply appears sooo natural. Like he says: practice everyday.
This has to be the most complex, most highly-detailed explanation for the different pickups, their placements, and switch/knob settings ever. Few, if any, will ever master the intricacies of the sounds of this guitar like Steve Morse.
What sets Morse apart, is the fact that he is a master of every musical style - jazz, rock, country, blues, classical, etc. No other player comes to mind who is as versatile.
For as many years as I've listened to Steve I never actually knew how the controls and switching all worked until I watched this video. Super versatile. Thanks for profiling the instrument!
he truly is.....if someone questions his musicality ... go to the Dixie Dregs ..more than even his playing ability , is his writing . It is a very high level ... in ways like the Assad brothers.
I first heard of Steve in 1985 when I was a teenager.I fell in love with his music. On my way to work I would listen to Golden Quest on my Walkman. I would play it for my then best friend and he said tis song makes me think. Great times.
I really glad explained the constant fiddling with the knobs. Brian May does it a dozen times in his second Save Me solo at Montreal and I had no idea why.
Totalmente de acuerdo con tu comentario amiga. Creo que la industria y gente en general no le dan el crédito que merece. Para mi es uno de los más grandes guitarristas y hombres humildes que he visto. Saludos and happy new year!
Steve is most complete guitarist of whole world...he plays electric, classic, folk, 12...all at maximum level and speed! But, for me, most impressive quality is that his lines and soloists are always BEAUTYFUL!
For me Steve Morse is like a continuation of Steve Howes work from Yes. He carried the torch on technical versatility. I love the dixie dregs song "The Bash". It shows that he was capable of so much!
Wow!... What an extremely versatile axe. Tone vs. volume.. YES! Am I the only one who is guessing Steve is a really humble, nice guy? With his status in the music world, he could easily be a dick, but I'm not catching that.
Such a decent guy. From listening to him, you'd think he was an arrogant prima donna, but much to my surprise, he's just like the rest of us - only better :)
Left handed players who play right handed,Gary Moore R .I.P. /Mark Knopflor among other big names....somthing to be said for using the dextrous hand on the buisness end..the fretboard......
I think he is very nice musician and great guy but those delay sounds makes him sound cheap. It's not classy mistic sound as Gilmour. It's like a space porn tricks. Not good.
What is funny is that MITCH GALLAGHER (whom I had the honor to play with) is a BETTER guitar player than Steve Morse (and a lot more educated about music theory). Keep on rocking Mitch.
"Better" guitar player? What makes for a "better" guitar player? The fact that YOU were allowed to trade some licks with him once upon a time? I think NOT. How often have you jammed with Steve Morse in order to come up with such a decisive classification? Best of all, what makes you think YOU have what itv takes to RANK these players? My friend, Morse is legendary, writes amazing music and is still a humble hard-working musician... you might want to work on the "humble" bit before you unleash such pompous statements.
I have to agree with these other 2 guys. How in the WORLD would you know who know more about theory. Morse studied at University of Miami with the likes of Narada Michael Walen, Pat Methany, and Jaco Pastorius just to name a few. THINK and do research before you make comments please.
Adam Lewis Morse also won 5 times in a row 'best overall' by Guitar Player Mag readers thus he was inducted to Gallery of the Greats. That was even before his Purple days.
Silliest comment I've ever seen on TH-cam, which is really saying something. I like Mitch, and appreciate what he does, but I seriously doubt he'd appreciate your comment either. Steve Morse is the favorite guitar player of MANY people, myself included, and has proven his ability beyond any doubt for many years. He's one of the nicest guys in music, who always has time for fans and doesn't turn into a diva when things go wrong. Steve and Mitch deserve better than your comment.
What a crappy cheap looking guitar. Who in their right mind would buy it? He could make any guitar sound great. How much are they asking for this piece of dung??
This guy teaches us how to remain humble while being great at what you do. So simple yet so genius. God bless you Steve
@MJP. Well said & agree.
Most under appreciated and underrated guy out there. Period. He’s a MONSTER.
Guitarists know he's a monster player. He's also a monster composer. But Eddie Van Halen took all the fame and glory, back in those days.
Steve speaks so much sense about how to sit in a mix! Something so many guitar players have never even thought about. What a legend!
So great and so humble

Ok, I am jealous. I love this dude’s playing so much!
Fosco Bacciaglia he’s a beast. Us mere mortals have no business in his presence lol
He's my favorite player, but artistically using a Whammy bar is not a trick. It's just a tool if you decide to use it.
''to us humans''... he is human too... Talented yeah, but also human. Not a god.
His pinky action - so amazing. Learned a lot watching this. Many thanks for uploading.

Release another Steve Morse Band album PLEASE!
This is one of those guitars that you can truly say that it was made for this specific person, to his personal needs.
Very interesting! Humble and intelligent guitarist ... :)

Dru Chumley
Guthrie is and does.
Check this out !

Steve Howe
Guthrie Govan might be up for consideration. But yes, Steve is amazing
@@Casey3-P-O
Agreed. Guthrie is terrifying as well.
@@druchumley4571 he really is scary-good
For as many years as I've listened to Steve I never actually knew how the controls and switching all worked until I watched this video. Super versatile. Thanks for profiling the instrument!
Steve Morse is such an awesome guy. I need one of these guitars!
He's one of the greatest modern guitarist, ever...Good Luck Steve, We Love-U..👍 (Pri-Jakarta-Indo)
He's such a humble person that his is the only signature guitar that I'd be proud to own - and the guitar is so pretty and versatile!
the guy is a musical genius
One of my faves.. Used to listen to him all the time and try to learn his stuff..
he truly is.....if someone questions his musicality ... go to the Dixie Dregs ..more than even his playing ability , is his writing . It is a very high level ... in ways like the Assad brothers.
I thought he was gonna say: "My whole aim is to give our sound man a reason to keep living"
That would have been such an epic quote. I'm using that one at some point.
Cuz if you take me out of the mix, ikillu...
With all that switching and all of those options he is almost like is own soundguy
What a great man, what a sharp mind!
I just gotta have one of these in this colour!!
Love hearing the old Dregs tunes.
Very versatile guitar, too many knobs for me though! He's pretty quick with the tone/volue knobs.
I first heard of Steve in 1985 when I was a teenager.I fell in love with his music. On my way to work I would listen to Golden Quest on my Walkman.

Great times.

One of the greatest modern guitar players ever. Talk about a man who lives his craft. That axe od his is epic. A toolbox of sounds
Very amazing tone control. It sounds like an inductor instead of a capacitor. Or a capacitor combined with an inductor, I don't know?
beautiful guitar.
Saludos and happy new year!
this is a killer guitar I have waited for something like this forever. I guitar that covers everything SWEET.
Steve is most complete guitarist of whole world...he plays electric, classic, folk, 12...all at maximum level and speed! But, for me, most impressive quality is that his lines and soloists are always BEAUTYFUL!
If Steve could phrase his speech with the same colors he phrases his music he could be the greatest poet.
That Ice Cake riff is so cool but its very difficult to play unless you have big hands where you can use your thumb over the fretboard.
Who can demonstrate the Music Man Steve Morse signature electric guitar, if not Steve Morse himself? Just no one in our galaxy :)
How have I never heard of this guitar? Seems really cool. That tone control sounds almost like a little wah pedal!
His Swells are second to none :o
Agreed, they're just swell
He's so good
I dream about such guitar, beautiful blue color, very versatile spectrum of sounds and not heavy.
Is the right hand of Steve already healthy?
For me Steve Morse is like a continuation of Steve Howes work from Yes. He carried the torch on technical versatility. I love the dixie dregs song "The Bash". It shows that he was capable of so much!
The King
Good point regarding the cutaway. It is a good point made. Big up for the video. Sharing is caring. From Sweden with love. -M
That's beautiful at 6:45 ~ :-)
"Here and Now and Then", one of my favorites.
What Steve is playing at the beginning?
does anyone know what piece he plays from 6:55 on?
love his playing!
Here Now and Then
Thanks for the reply! In the meantime, i have discovered the record that has this song. Absolutely love it!
What style is he playing at 2:10?
What value is his tone pot,for achieving that big sound range?I suppose 0,5 of something
What is the title of the track he plays at 4:31?
How this sound of organs/cgord is made? Withou special boxes? Only tuning fastly the volume or tone? Who knows?
tc hall of fame reverb and tc delays with volume pedals.
The best!
Muito bom 😃 mesmo Thank you
That’s a sweet guitar
But can he play Smoke On The Water?
He does in his Rig Rundown video.
and stairway to heaven
What can't he play?
I kinda think so. ;)
But can he play the some nation army thing
Ele é extremamente elaborado
nice sounding axe
The Music Man Amplifier is the best Amp Ever. The Ernie Ball Bass Guitar is Legendary.
2:55 ... smart move; give the soundguy a message in an interview.
that honky sound is SICK!
The switching and the volume/tone controls, THEN the playing.... it’s a lot to think about and he pulls it off as if it’s an appendage of himself.
Most guitar players would need 6 different guitars to achieve the sounds that Steve gets out of his signature guitar.
I think the interviewer is stunned
Need some room for more pickups!!!
Miguel Ramos 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Every guitarist should watch this video...lol
Is there a saying about 'more talent in a pinky than your entire body'? There should be and it should just be called Steve MorseD.
Wonderful guitar player, great composer, but his distorted tone in DP is too mushy and too wooly to my ears. I love his cleans tones with delay.
Left handed players who play right handed,Gary Moore R .I.P. /Mark Knopflor among other big names....somthing to be said for using the dextrous hand on the buisness end..the fretboard......
I want that guitar...and Brian Mayes....and BB kings...then that's it I don't want ANY Morse. Lol
Sweet water muziek
So, now I know where Petrucci got his soloing tone.
Looks like a nice fellow, but please, just give him one pickup and one knob :)
First comment yeah
This guy is like a maxed out Joe biden on dope 😂😂😂
I think he is very nice musician and great guy but those delay sounds makes him sound cheap. It's not classy mistic sound as Gilmour. It's like a space porn tricks. Not good.

MisterGuitarItalia all said and done, I agree 100%, CASE CLOSED

Morse was decent when he'd played with Kansas. Rubbish in Deep Purple.

Hearing Morse is like watching an Olympic athlete if guitar were an Olympic sport
Notice the EVH influence. The Strat with the humbucking pick-ups. There are guitar players and then there’s EVH.
