I used a .410 when I was a kid never really cared for it. 12 gauge is better. I prefer the larger shot sizes. #4 or #5 birdshot for squirrels. The vast majority of the time I carry a .22 revolver for anything super close but my permit has expired recently and I haven't had a chance to renew.

I've used a shotgun. I prefer a bolt action or single shot .22 shooting .22 shorts. It doesn't scare the squirrels as much.
Later in the season (about 2 weeks from now) the shotgun gets put back in the closet and the .22 rifle comes out.

Are you kidding? 12 gauge is DIRT cheap in comparison to expensive and hard to find .410

Here in PA grew up using shotguns for squirrels and also 22
