In ancient Netherese times Larloch was once a magically gifted plumber far before he became an accomplished wizard and Lich. He developed Larloch's Minor Drain to remove clogs of biological matter without disturbing the pipes. The magic had the side benefit of giving him extra energy to work longer! When his floating city crashed, he fell into a cavern Myconid colony. Entering the mushroom kingdom and after dodging many Bulette Bills, he and his brother ended up acquiring the legendary fire flower. Even a party of high optimized level 20s should not be able to take out Larloch. Ed Greenwood has stated multiple times that he's always supposed to be more powerful than the adventures... He also stated in Annotated Elminster, that Larloch is probably a level 47 mage. And this was back in 1372... now, he's probably higher level. Only one more powerful according to Ed Greenwood is the Srinshee, who is level 54 mage!
Szass Tam talked with King Lorlach after the other Red Wizards, without authorization attacked Lorlach. Szass traded some items from Lorlachs old floating city for a couple of old Nethril artifacts one of them being the orb and the other a throne or chair ... Lorlach is immensely more powerful than Szass, so it begs the question who is Szass working for ... a bardic lore (3.5e) check of 20 or higher reveals that Szass is easily in control of all the other Zulkirs of Thay (various wizard specialist ) ...... This could be whoever the DM wishes I went with one of the few other liches (demi lich) on the same level , Ythazz Buvaar (the first Zulkir and founder of Thay ) , of course if you are running 5e Acererak might be easier and point of order , . Orbedal was a floating city of High Nethril, according to ancient scribes the floating city of peace and light. Larloch didn't go back to his original city after it crashed because it flipped upside down and Arthindol the Terraseer is like 34,000 years old by the time 3e came out (Arthindol is the guy who told Karsus in -345 "Mystryl was about to face her greatest challenge..." ) A great video BTW
Personally I make it somewhat easy for PC's to travel from "Forgotten Realms" to "Oerth" , so very interesting things happened , such as Eliminster , Mordenkainen, Melf and The Srinshee having a sit down , Acererak in possesion the "eye of vecna" , the Scarlet brotherhood and Wizards of Thay working together. Of course it does cause a slight shake up in how gods function and a few other few oddities (such as a high king of dwarves in each world, but only one axe of dwarvish lords )
You mention blue fire items in the video. I'm not really familiar with all that and it's kinda confusing. Could you do a video explaining spellfire, silverfire, and blue fire?
Blue fire is the blue magical flames of the spellplague. When the spellplague hit blue flames devoured parts of Faerun. But yes a video on magic and flames is a great idea :)
silverfire is magical energy Mystra gave to her chosen , this energy helps them heal (i believe it is part of her own divine energy, but i could be wrong). each the chosen learns how to use this energy to do various things, and when it manifests, it looks like fire, but has silver colors.. hence the name bluefire is the result of the weave and the shadow weave colliding, it happened when Mystra was assassinated. not even Ao could stop this fire since its origins were from a place outside of the part of existence where he has authority.
Thank you so much. Love the content. Can anyone here recommend Ebron far Realms or Dungeons and Dragons books in general that focus on necromancers or liches? Thank you !

@@EvelynNdenial I was going by the FR wiki and in it Tam told Larloch that the ones who came before him were inept, which could imply that Tam was the last one to fight him (perhaps standing back and observing or something) or that they went in by themselves over several years, which I do like the idea of- that it was some sort of challenge that various Red Wizards undertook and Tam succeeded where they failed by, instead of fighting Larloch and likely dying, realising that he could be bargained with. Which I also find appropriate for the type of bastard Tam is.
forgottenrealms.fandom.com/wiki/Rhaugilath Raw gil ath --- was a lich and ruler of Orbedal trapped in the ruins when Orbedal fell. Then use the Seat to comple the ritual of twin burnings to permanently enslave Eltab. The ritual was interrupted and Eltab freed. The Orb was eventually destroyed with Mystras murder by Cyric.
Not sure Vecna is part of the Forgotten Realms, but no I don't think he was the first just the oldest still around. That didn't ascend to God hood like Vecna. 😄
@@Jorphdan I know its been awhile since you posted this video but do you think larloch made communication with acererak or vecna? the likelyhood is rare i'd guess (I know that vecna is greyhawk but he shows up as a deity in the DMG, and acererak made it to chult in TOA so could have there been some interaction?)
Jorphdan If you ever get to the bottom of your idea pool you could also make a series about the map itself. That I think would be the most useful for startup Gms like myself. Introducing us to the entire map, zooming in on the largest and most influential places for some background, and then talking about smaller cities and countries and where they are relativ to the other major locations. Being able to look at the map and know some of the names on it and a little about the recent events there is key to really selling your players the idea that the game is an actual place with consequences and history
Not sure exactly how to explain this. Some say magic went sporadic but didn't fail entirely. From what I read though magic failed and stopped for a brief second, maybe it was brief enough to not destroy every Lich.
Oldest non draconic entity in Faerun? Afraid not. Ioulaum was born in -3315 DR and he still exists. Arthindol "The Terraseer" was already thousands of years old when Ioulaum was born and still "lives" in the ruins of Oreme.

@@Jorphdan Awesome can't wait. Love your channel and content, I've often sent your videos on gods to my players who are interested in playing Clerics and Paladins as reference material. Keep it up. :)
I'm confused so is the city inside a tower or is it surrounded by towers and walls?
Was he the inspiration behind Ainz Ooal Gown ?
Do a video on Elminster!
Im thinking of a hame where the players have to kill larloch and destroy him. You would need a deck of many things and draw *vizier* to learn it.
Are you going to do more videos on Eberron?
That's the plan, I got a bit side tracked with other videos. But I do love Eberron and want to continue!
Do followers of Larloch, have a certain symbol they wear or a mark they have on them? If not, would you say it would be a death moon orb logo?
Not that I know of, he doesn't have cult worshipers. But it sounds like a cool idea for an enemy group!
Why do Blackguards get to control or summon undead?
But yes a video on magic and flames is a great idea :)
silverfire is magical energy Mystra gave to her chosen , this energy helps them heal (i believe it is part of her own divine energy, but i could be wrong).
each the chosen learns how to use this energy to do various things, and when it manifests, it looks like fire, but has silver colors.. hence the name
bluefire is the result of the weave and the shadow weave colliding, it happened when Mystra was assassinated. not even Ao could stop this fire since its origins were from a place outside of the part of existence where he has authority.
Thanks jordan with the ph.
No problem Lilbaz :D
Thank you so much. Love the content. Can anyone here recommend Ebron far Realms or Dungeons and Dragons books in general that focus on necromancers or liches? Thank you !
I really like this 3rd party book. It could spark some ideas for you.

Isn’t he dead now after the events of the sundering?
Did the Red Wizards fight him all at once or was it that sixteen of them seperately tried to get his secrets for themselves?
It was unclear to me, I imagined them going as a group.
it would imply that szass tam betrayed them too which would be incredibly appropriate for the kind of bastard he is.
Larloch found him years after defeated him and bound him to servitude.
Larloch gave the Orb and Tharkosils Seat to Szass Tam. forgottenrealms.fandom.com/wiki/Death_Moon_Orb Tam attempted to use the Orb to force Eltab into the Seat . Then use the Seat to comple the ritual of twin burnings to permanently enslave Eltab. The ritual was interrupted and Eltab freed. The Orb was eventually destroyed with Mystras murder by Cyric.
Imma still call you Jorfdan because it sounds cool
you do you boo
So is larloch considered the first lich in the forgotten realms? Because I believe Vecna was the first lich.
Not sure Vecna is part of the Forgotten Realms, but no I don't think he was the first just the oldest still around. That didn't ascend to God hood like Vecna. 😄
@@Jorphdan Aaahhh thank you
@@Jorphdan I know its been awhile since you posted this video but do you think larloch made communication with acererak or vecna? the likelyhood is rare i'd guess (I know that vecna is greyhawk but he shows up as a deity in the DMG, and acererak made it to chult in TOA so could have there been some interaction?)
@@NovelPilot01 maybe!? Technically Vecna is a greyhawk entity but with the plane hopping I'm sure they could meet up. Make it happen in your game :D
@@Jorphdan I probably will im already considering on putting in blue fire weapons in my game and putting in spell plague scars.
wasn`t he destroyed by Elminster??
Ah yes, the *chadest of liches*
Can I get a vid on the elemental chaos boss man
I'll see what I can come up with :)
Jorphdan
If you ever get to the bottom of your idea pool you could also make a series about the map itself.
If magic fails what happens to the liches phelactory? Excuse spelling plz I've been drinking
Not sure exactly how to explain this. Some say magic went sporadic but didn't fail entirely. From what I read though magic failed and stopped for a brief second, maybe it was brief enough to not destroy every Lich.
Lilac is a funny guy name.
Love it
Thanks!
I used Ioulaum for my LVL 20 players.
Of course a guy named Larloch is a villain.
Oldest non draconic entity in Faerun? Afraid not. Ioulaum was born in -3315 DR and he still exists. Arthindol "The Terraseer" was already thousands of years old when Ioulaum was born and still "lives" in the ruins of Oreme.
He said "one of the oldest" not "the oldest".. although " the oldest is part of that so meh.
@@chrisp.2852 He says "one of" in the video but the description just says "oldest".
Do videos are Karsus and high elven magic.
I kinda did with my fall of the Netherese, but I'll see about going into more detail :D
(Evilly) yessssssss
Larloch disliked this video.
MORE VILLAINS
Jorfdan
*deletes all light so he loses power*
Hah
Hey
What's up!?
DM PC
Larloch is the definition of "my OC beats your OC!". A boring overpowered npc who has 0 personality except being powerful, just like most in FR.
To be fair, it is normal for wizards to rank themselves by the length of their "magic staff". So the power obsessed wizard is pretty common.
