Beggars can't be choosers. Retaining Mantha's salary for the rest of this season barely affects us. The return is still solid for an expiring UFA guy who would've possibly cleared waivers a year ago.
Funny we couldn’t give him away earlier. He’s a streaky player and a good finisher. If he used his size like Protas he would be very formidable. I personally love all the cap space we gained. 9 million from Backstrom, 4 from Kuzy and 5 from Mantha will go a long long way. Leonard could probably fill Manta’s shoes next year. Another years growth for McMichael, LaPierre, Protas, Miroschnichenko, Alexeev and the future ain’t too bad. Carlson looks great, Ovie is slowly getting it back together the farm is stocked. It’s not bad at all.

It was an interesting deadline for the team. I think what would have been more interesting is if we had received a prospect or a young player.
