    For the love of milkshakes, do NOT use the Chemical Plant PM.
    EDIT: As some have pointed out, Modern Ports can be pretty good. I don't think they're good when you're running a shortage, but if you're trying to increase demand, they're fantastic.

      @TGBledsoe ปีที่แล้ว +3

      They really need to increase the fertilizer consumption by ag pms.

    • @alexandererhard2516
      @alexandererhard2516 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I mean the final production method consumes a decent amount of fertilizer.
      But it also sends grain prices to the bottom, so you probably either won't build that many farms or not use that final pm on farms.
      (Although that can be a decent SoL improvement for peasants)
      Or alternatively, spam out food industries with inferior production methods so they mostly use grain I guess.
      (Granted, you'll probably only set some of them to the distillation methods anyway, otherwise the input sugar value is higher than the output Liquor value)
      Because lategame food industries with max pms have the issue of not actually using that much grain (50) compared to fish (60) and sugar (55).

    • @generalistgaming
      @generalistgaming  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TGBledsoe maybe - I kinda like the weird tension that is created by the ferts being depressed relative to explosives. Their price, and also sulfur, being depressed is kinda what makes Synthetic Plants viable.

    • @generalistgaming
      @generalistgaming  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@alexandererhard2516 spamming bad food industries is interesting if the math supports.
      I'm sure it's by design, but yeah, grain prices get super depressed and there is no (especially efficient) way to increase demand for them.

    • @alexandererhard2516
      @alexandererhard2516 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@generalistgaming Other than that, I guess Synthetic Dye can act as a fertilizer sink, if you have a decent amount of Sulfur.
      But yes, max pm Food industries are rather inefficient at inducing grain demand (the fish ones even reduce grain demand), you may need to go only with one of the main pms, no canning or distilleries.

    I remember the insane lead shortage I had late game as China. Using oil for houseware plastics was the most painful decision I made of that game. Lead, glass and oil were all painful to keep up with. And yes, I did prioritize plastic a LOT.

    • @generalistgaming
      @generalistgaming  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah, the dynamic of this shortage is a big part of why I thought including plastics in the video was so important, despite it not being as "efficient". I forgot to mention that Modern Ports are really good for creating initial demand though

    Suggestion for the next video, When should I build universities???
    Before patch 1.2, it was easy to get the full tech tree, but now, I never know whether I'm spending a lot of money on universities or not. Sometimes I get all levels quickly, most of the time I never reach the last tier of technologies. What is the ideal ratio university by population?

    • @codpyry
      @codpyry ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have trouble too, but what I do is hover over the innovation and check how far I am from my innovation cap. If I'm still far away, I'll build more universities

    • @generalistgaming
      @generalistgaming  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Unis are a little tough - I don't have a hard and fast rule, but a soft and slow one is I usually try to crank up construction to somewhere around 200-500 before building any unis (or just enough to do journals) and then I slap down a level 51 uni (or 31 if I don't have shift work yet).
      I don't think you have a pop ratio, since qualifications are rarely a problem. I think if there is a ratio, it's relative to construction (nonmilitary gov expense). Construction directly grows gdp, and tech (by unlocking new PMs) grows it "indirectly," I suppose. If you don't have a lot of buildings yet, new PMs wouldn't be as valuable as new buildings, but once you have a lot, then new PMs are valuable.

    I use all my oil for industrial ports so I can max my free trade convoys and take all the stuff I need

    • @generalistgaming
      @generalistgaming  ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Not mentioning the ports was a bit of an oversight - ports are amazing for driving up demand for oil early on, and then you just swap them back later as you start to run a shortage. I think when you're in shortage mode that the production PMs are better tho

      @generalistgaming  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'll put together some notes and think about it. I think electricity is notably different though, since usually you EVENTUALLY want to get on all the PMs

  • @quantumshenanigans
    @quantumshenanigans ปีที่แล้ว

    I'd be interested to get a video on a topic that dovetails with Oil: late game military PMs. Is it worth the oil to make airplanes, for instance? And in a less quantitative sense, do you personally think it's worth it to micro military PMs based on resource availability and offensive/defensive specialization?

    • @generalistgaming
      @generalistgaming  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The short answer is yes, the military PMs are priority number one, and you want them internally in your market that way you don't lose access.
      It depends what you mean by worth? I don't do it because, by the time I get there, I'm powerful enough anyway, and I want to keep the pace of the game up for viewability reasons. In theory though, yeah, I think you should be splitting specialization and having like infiltrators for landing and one group on machine guns for defense and such. I just do all infiltrators. It's not the best, but I just want to push quickly after landing.

    Hello! Can you make a video on how to deal with high level of unemployment late game? My russia campain is in 1917 with to 60-70 milion unemployemnt on 800milion population, i have already filled my subsistence farm. Now I dont have deficit (in my past runs i nearly went broke) but i fear it's will get crazy as soon i change one economic sistem or i stop conquering depopulated country.

    • @generalistgaming
      @generalistgaming  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'll take a look at this as a topic, but I don't experience this too terribly much, except with China. The solution is a generally more construction (also, don't turn on labor saving PMs if you have a lot of peasants/unemployment).
