Mallory out here keeping all of us with sensory issues informed before making our purchases. The ergonomics, smell and sound all matter to me, so I really do appreciate those notes.
I’ve had my Shark for about a year now and it has replaced every tool in my arsenal! The sound doesn’t bother me (you have to be ok with that, but I don’t mind at all) and the smell goes away after a use or two. It’s only because it’s new. I like the boar bristles because it allows me to get great resistance for a really smooth look when I’m blowing it out. I’ve heard some people say their Dyson won’t hold a curl as well as the Shark, but I’ve never tried the Dyson. Just offering my totally unsolicited two cents, but mine has been game changing for me and I’m a picky missy! 😂
Exactly how I felt about the two. I got them both to try and ended up keeping the Dyson because of the looks & feels, and overall performance is far superior than Shark too. My hair is so voluminous and bouncy with the Dyson, whereas the Shark left my hair feeling dry and flat. There are reasons why the Dyson costs more. But I got the Dyson during promotion for around $450 plus 20% cashback through Rakuten, and then 2% cashback and points on my credit card, it's honestly not that much more expensive than the Shark.
I almost bought the shark flex because of the price and my husband was like “what? I thought you like the airwrap”. I was like, ai think they will perform the same and the price is different. Good thing he gifted the airwrap to me just a few weeks ago. Whew! I could have regreted it. Thank you for this validation 😅❤ i love the comparison and I appreciate it!
I bought a refurbed original air wrap (where you have to change barrels to change direction) in the blue & copper for $400. Worth every penny. Half the reason I bought it was to have everything in a case I could have on my shelf instead of a messy basket with a tangle of cords. I use my Redken play safe heat protectant cream and it will make a blow out last for 4-5 days. If I’m feeling lazy I will just turn the machine upside down instead of changing the barrel. 😁
That's quite expensive for a refurbished old model. I got the latest model brand new from the black friday promotion at $475 plus 20% cashback through Rakuten and another 2% cashback (and points) from my credit card, it came out to be $350.
@@rubiiraethat’s great! I believe Dyson has a few refurbs left on their website that they’ve now lowered to $350, but I purchased mine before they released the newer version and was happy to cut the price by $200. :)
@@CheekSoup Ahh that make sense, you got it when it was new new & all the rage hahha. I'm sure the refurbs work just as well and $200 saving is still much better than paying full price. Give it a few more years people probably think we're insane for paying $300-$400 on a Dyson airwrap 🤣
Thank you for sharing your experience with this tool! I purchased it and absolutely love it! As far as how loud it is …it didn’t bother me at all . But I’m not super sensitive about loud noises I guess. I also read reviews saying this is great for longer hair . Oh and mine wasn’t wobbly at all either . The smell does eventually go away but definitely not a pleasant smell !!
I finally bought the dyson airwrap and was so sad to see the shark flex! I had so much guilt for spending that much money, but after this- I regret nothing!! 😅 thank you❤️
Very thorough review! While I love my airwrap and all my Dyson hair tools I can appreciate how folks would be interested in the Shark due to the price and the claims. However, part of what we get with Dyson is the technology and Shark doesn’t have that, they just try to copy the Dyson. I know it’s crazy expensive but every dupe isn’t really worth the cost. Yes the Dyson is crazy expensive and most people will say it’s not worth it because of the cost and haven’t even tried it. I had shoulder length (until yesterday) natural curly, color-treated hair that I wear straight and now my hair is about your length and I will say using the Dyson has saved my hair. I’m not giving up highlighting or straightening my hair so I have to use high quality products to maintain the health of my hair, and Dyson products exceed my expectations. There are so many things you pointed out that still make the Dyson the best choice for ease of use and health of hair…the noise, the quality of the component, the brushes, etc.
Thank you for your honest review. It really helps weigh pros and cons when you don’t own either tool. With the price it makes it worth the investment in the long run:)
So glad it was helpful girl!!! Yeah, the Dyson will last forever and won’t damage your hair as much as any of the competitors imho. So totally worth the investment
Thank you Mallory for this honest review - I am amazed at how loud the Shark is, wow! That would bother me very much, so I appreciate all the details you took the time to review for us 😊💕
I’ve got awful hair, it’s been difficult all my life. I got the Dyson from qvc, thinking I’ll try it and probably send it back. Oh no, it’s staying, I actually like my hair for the first time ever.

In the military i was trained on hearing and protection bc it was so crucial. I am almost 100% sure thst the Shark is above safe decibel levels which means you will start damaging your hearing egich will xause hearing loss. I would yeild extreme caution using that dryer if you want to save your hearing especially as you age. I have excellent hearing bc i dont listen to loud music, i use ear plugs if around loud machines or events. You can damage your hearing at lebels you would not expect to. Do some research and i think you will find that thst noise from the drier is too loud .

Find a decent secondhand Dyson Airwrap, or a cheap new original version if you can find one (the upgrade isn’t significant) would be my recommendation to those wanting a product like this but are struggling with the price. I bought mine when I couldn’t go to the salon during the pandemic, and it genuinely was a great investment. My hair is naturally blonde plus highlighted (so can get super dry!), and it’s in the best condition now, and I don’t need to get my ends cut as often.
After reading reviews and watching a lot of video reviews (like yours) I finally bought the Dyson AirStraight. The price was a huge deterrent, but it offers something that no other product does. I could never blowdry my hair without being a frizzy mess, and then I'd have to followup with a flat iron which is damaging to my fragile hair. The AirStrait does everything at once, with low heat air and doesn't pull at my hair.
I Bought the Shark now during the Sephora sales and after testing for a few weeks Im going to return it...I dont feel is really that mucj healthier than Revlon brush for example, it feels the same, since I have been using Revlon I know....I will spend more money and get the Dyson better...hopefully some sales during Black Friday

I thank you so much for this video! I suffer of arthritis too (but also migraine and sensory issues). You help me for my final decision. Thanks dear! ❤️
Hi, I've watched countless video reviews of this product and they all basically focus on the styling performance compared to the Dyson. I don't have hair where styling it could change my life since I'm of medium height, fine and overall I have little. But precisely for this reason I am looking for a different evaluation which is Dyson's strong point... Is the hair protected on par or is Dyson ahead in this aspect? Thanks 😘
Ugh! I just purchased the Shark but I haven’t taken it out of the box. I’m thinking I should just return and exchange it for the Dyson, or decide if I just want a high quality hair dryer. I’m not thrilled with the noise factor or the high heat. I also have chronic severe pain and simply the act of styling my hair is physically draining. Is your rooster any nicer? I felt so bad for you!
I bought the Airwrap this year and the deciding factor was the sound, the small details are important. Because i have very long hair, i even bought the new bigger round brush and that made my styling a bit faster.
I own Dyson like one year but what I noticed my hair condition is very bad my hair broke dry frizzy mess I’m not using anymore back to regular hairdryer

I got the Shark Flex Style for Christmas. I returned it this week. The pitch was horrible and EXTREMELY loud. I had a headache after a few minutes. Very disappointing.
I couldn’t agree more! Plus they use a drop ship company from china to build it, like the same cheaper versions you see on amazon. No one discloses that, but this is way over priced and a terrible product😬

Not sure what you mean or what you’re trying to say lol. I purchased both of these tools with my own money. I hated the shark because of obvious reasons. I’m honored you think Dyson would sponsor me lol…maybe one day🤞😂
yes $299 is still pretty expensive, but if you get it on sale somewhere, it would be an awesome gift. (graduation gift, wedding gift, etc) I think the dyson products are way overpriced for what they are. I'm glad there's other competition starting to pop up for these items.
I feel this is definitely not a “dupe” or a better way to go. This will definitely damage your hair overtime. Hopefully a true competitive product will come out at a lower price than the Dyson, that isn’t cheaply made, and can actually perform well and not fry your hair. This is not a tool I would recommend to anyone at all☠️
I am pretty skeptical of all these expensive hair styling products. the thing that got me was it sounded like a freaking airport! no thanks. just give me a blow dryer that will last 10 years and a curling iron. @@ImMalloryBrooke
Ur paying double for a case if u get the Dyson bc it’s double the price of shark only diff is u get a case and the Dyson is better to handle bc the cool shot or something and not as heavy u can get a shark case and ur still cheaper then the dyson or even cheaper if u get random ones from Amazon they have a lot but I love the shark I got one for Christmas I’m dying to get it in few days and I have pains in my hands to I’m worried about that as well tho now u mentioned it
I think both of these things are crap and not what they are cracked up to be. However, I cannot stop obsessing over them, even though I bought one and returned. It's just so fun, but kind of a farce.
The airwrap isn’t a farce lol. It’s like a modern day version of hot rollers (the effect it gives) without the damage. The Shark is made by a shitty company that actually makes dyson knock offs…no ones talks about it lol
I think it’s because they aren’t using the proper settings or hair products to finish. But hey, if it doesn’t work for you, it just doesn’t now worries🥰
The flex style sounds like a huge disappointment. The noise and smell make me wonder if you received a defective item? Or maybe that’s just wishful thinking. 😅 Thank you for such a thorough review. I don’t have either tool but I feel like I could make an informed decision after seeing your review.
That’s a good point, about it possibly being a defective one. But damn what a disappointment. I’m so glad I watched this because I likely would have bought the Shark thinking I’m getting a deal and then been extremely disappointed and having stress over wasting the money. Like if I’m gonna spend $300 that shit better be good lol.
Nope, mine was the same! All the points that Mallory made were spot on. I was also actually scared for my hair when I couldn't find the cool-shot fast enough too. I returned mine and bought the Dyson. It was a no brainer after that experience.
You should use heat protection, in this video review you are complaining how hot is it, but you should be using heat protection in any hot tool especially if you have hair like yours. I don’t want to be mean at all. Just wondering why have not use it. My hair is very fine hair and I always use heat protection all the time. Also I bought shark for $250 set from Costco including all the attachments, even the new smoothing attachment, defuser and travel bag as well. We needed traveling hair dryer ( styling tool) with diffuser. My twins (15 years old) have very strong virgin curly hair, corse hair so for us shark is the tool we needed, and the price right now is unbeatable.
I always use heat protectant. Usually, “bumble and bumble hair dressers invisible oil primer”. It’s one of my absolute favorite heat protectants. The shark, though supposedly heating to a lower temp than the Dyson, does feel much hotter (even on the lower setting) than the Dyson- and is much louder. $250 is a deal, especially if the cons of the product are outweighed by the pros of your context.
Recensione assolutamente poco professionale..avendo ricevuto il dyson non potresti mai e poi mai dire che lo shark sia similare...rumore che ti strappa le orecchie...sembra in giocattolo..ti brucia i capelli...ma dai..che farsa😮

Ur paying double for a case if u get the Dyson bc it’s double the price of shark only diff is u get a case and the Dyson is better to handle bc the cool shot or something and not as heavy u can get a shark case and ur still cheaper then the dyson or even cheaper if u get random ones from Amazon they have a lot but I love the shark I got one for Christmas I’m dying to get it in few days and I have pains in my hands to I’m worried about that as well tho now u mentioned it
Greater air flow will shorten the drying time, but increase frizz, unfortunately.
The style doesn't stay on these, though. And people's hair looks frizzy and disheveled after a bit. IDK@@ImMalloryBrooke
I think it’s because they aren’t using the proper settings or hair products to finish. But hey, if it doesn’t work for you, it just doesn’t now worries🥰
True. But now scared about that new Shark vac I bought on Black Friday. Good thing I purchased the insurance policy.@@ImMalloryBrooke
to me it sounds just as loud as the revlon brush 🤔
The flex style sounds like a huge disappointment. The noise and smell make me wonder if you received a defective item? Or maybe that’s just wishful thinking. 😅 Thank you for such a thorough review. I don’t have either tool but I feel like I could make an informed decision after seeing your review.
The noise is INSANE! I think the smell is coming from the material it’s made out of☠️ It’s honestly very cheaply made.
@@ImMalloryBrooke such a bummer!
Ok just to shark , it makes me laugh when people have a problem with what direction the arrows will work on their hair. 🤣😂🙄
Get a decibel meter and measure that shark. Try a-mazon
Seemed determined not to like it from the get go
Love the shark - sorry!
I was so disappointed with my Dyson and returned it. Way too much money!!
Recensione assolutamente poco professionale..avendo ricevuto il dyson non potresti mai e poi mai dire che lo shark sia similare...rumore che ti strappa le orecchie...sembra in giocattolo..ti brucia i capelli...ma dai..che farsa😮
So basically it’s safe to say you hate it? Lol
🙉🙉🙉
I have the Dyson blow dryer airwrap and my air strait just showed up I love being a Dyson girl
If it’s too hot turn it down 😂
Ay Karen…
Oh no this really is loud 😬
OH Heck no. The Shark is WAY too loud
it hurts my ears, physically lol
