  • Woke culture and its unholy alliance with Islam are replacing the gap left by the decline in Christianity. Father Calvin Robinson is a conservative social commentator and, obviously, a priest. I'm an atheist. Can he and I agree to disagree about god, religion and society?

    Bible contains 3 different types of laws: there was a moral law that we are all bound to, there’s a cultural law that distinguish behavior and habits of Israeli people from other nations, and there’s a legal law that used to be a low for Israeli people and it expired with Israeli nation as such that was in the Bible.
    We, Christians, we aren’t Israeli or Jewish. We don’t bound to their ceremonial or legal law. But we do believe in Christ God, and as such, we are bound to God’s moral law.

      If you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s offspring and heirs according to promise.
      Galatians 3:28-29
      Therefore remember that at one time you Gentiles in the flesh, called "the uncircumcision" by what is called the circumcision, which is made in the flesh by hands- remember that you were at that time separated from Christ, alienated from the COMMONWEALTH OF ISRAEL AND STRANGERS TO THE COVENANTS OF PROMISE, having no hope and without God in the world. But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ.

      Paul wrote to clarify how people were made right (righteous) with God. Paul explains that salvation was by Gods Grace and our Faith which is open to anyone "Jew or Gentile". Are the gospels legends?
    Another point is that on that view you would have to regard the accounts of the Man as being legends. Now, as a literary historian, I am perfectly convinced that whatever else the Gospels are they are not legends. I have read a great deal of legend and I am quite clear that they are not the same sort of thing. They are not artistic enough to be legends. From an imaginative point of view they are clumsy, they don’t work up to things properly. Most of the life of Jesus is totally unknown to us, as is the life of anyone else who lived at that time, and no people building up a legend would allow that to be so. Apart from bits of the Platonic dialogues, there are no conversations that I know of in ancient literature like the Fourth Gospel. There is nothing, even in modern literature, until about a hundred years ago when the realistic novel came into existence. In the story of the woman taken in adultery we are told Christ bent down and scribbled in the dust with His finger. Nothing comes of this. No one has ever based any doctrine on it. And the art of inventing little irrelevant details to make an imaginary scene more convincing is a purely modern art. Surely the only explanation of this passage is that the thing really happened? The author put it in simply because he had seen it.

    Great questions. Great answers ❤❤ Very interesting explanation on how the Old Testament ( the law and the prophets) was God talking to the Jewish nation under the Covenants and the New Testament is God talking to Christians under the New Covenant. Moral laws were repeated and further explained and expanded by Jesus. For example if you hate your brother you have murdered. Jesus is adding on that your thoughts and intentions can be very wrong, not just your actions. He's stressing where is your heart. In the new covenant the idea is that you can't have a relationship with God based on following rules because we can never follow them perfectly 24/7 but rather can have a relationship with God based on a new heart which is soft and wants to follow God. This is of coarse based on a central tennentof Christianity that you believe e Jesus died as as a substitute for you as a payment or atonement for your sins or transgressions much like the Passover lamb.

      @LoriManning หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@joso7228 No one. Christians totally read the old testament. God gave the Jews instructions in the old testament. Christians follow the moral laws in the OT like for example do not kill, do not lie. Interesting that Jesus talks about these laws in the new testament. The law acctually points to the fact that we break these laws all the time. Maybe we don't kill anyone but we'll lie or be jealous etc. Anyone can have a relationship with God because Jesus paid the price for breaking the law. In the old testament lamb died to pay for breaking the law. In the new testament Jesus died to pay for us breaking the law. So you come to God through believing what he did for you on the cross, not by following rules. But should you follow the moral rules? Of course yes. The laws regarding for example the feasts are fir Jews, not Christians. A Jewish friend of mine talks about how they set up booths in their back yard for the feast of booths. Christians don't celebrate that holiday. But what's interesting is that the feast of booths has a meaning to Christians. Google it. It's super interesting.

    I count myself as a "fundamentalist", a "purist" even. The bible is quite clear when it is being literal and should be taken as such when it is - the creation account is a perfect example of that.
    There are however "dispensations" (times or ages), the stoning of adulterers was intended to keep the nation of Israel on the narrow path, something they struggled to do continually and it was intended to keep their society from collapsing due to distrust of one's neighbours and betrayal by lifelong spouses. One just has to look at the West to see what happens when women usurp the headship of the man and that is why God ordained the structure that has worked for centuries.
    The dispensation we are currently in (the church age), is one where Jesus said Love God, love your enemies, pray for your persecutors, forgive your brother 77 times, tell the world I am coming back and that time, it will be Me doing the crucifying...

    3:34 Before the bible there was no christian faith. The bible in its beginning WAS the Old Testament. Jesus was jewish, not christian. Maybe Paul comes closest to what we call christian today. The right thing to say would then be: Before the New Testament there already was christian faith.
    But you still can't understand christian faith and why Jesus is viewed as the Christ without the Old Testament. His interaction with people leans heavily on themes from the Old Testament. The whole narrative around Jesus is carefully crafted so that people with knowledge about the Old Testament would understand who he was supposed to be, what he was supposed to represent.

      Jesus is God who became man (two natures) and lived His life on Earth as an ethnic Jew, however, he did not promote or subscribe to Rabbinic Judaism.
      Also, the term ‘Christian’ refers to those who accept Jesus of Nazareth as the Messiah and second person in the Trinity. Jesus would not refer to Himself as ‘Christian’ as that term had not been coined yet and would imply that he is following Himself. So to use the ‘Jew’ vs ‘Christian’ dichotomy when referring to Jesus of Nazareth, especially given that Judaism today is basically Rabbinic Judaism is naive at best and slimey, manipulative at worst.

    • @DutchJoan
      @DutchJoan 24 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@Fein528
      Neither christianity nor judaism can be interpreted as they are today. If you read the story of the Canaanite woman and her sick daughter carefully then you know that Jesus stood fully in the jewish tradition of that time. And the woman showed she was very familiar with the jewish lament traditions of the Psalms in her approach of Jesus, and he changed his mind towards her because of that. A careful reader of the gospels will find that all Jesus's attributes refer back to the Old Testament and the jewish faith, rabbinic or not.
      It is impossible to be of two natures. You're either eternal with all the attributes adhered to that, or you're mortal. If Jesus was mortal, then he wouldn't rise from the dead. If he was eternal, then he never died. If he was mortal and God raised him from the dead, then he was a demigod. And that is something Yahweh detested and punished in the sons of other gods according to the Old Testament. Which either makes Yahweh inconsistent and Jesus still not fully God and not imbued with all the godly powers, or Jesus suffered the same fate as the other sons of gods. In any case doesn't Jesus meet the criteria of a sacrifice, with his broken skin and the fact that he didn't stay dead or in the underworld. Whichever way I look at it, it wouldn't result in christianity like I know it via Paul.

    I like Calvin but he hasn't done his homework on the meaning of " Jewish" in the Bible. The first use of the word "Jew" in English was in 1775. Prior to this in the Bible different words primarliy in Hebrew and Greek were used in the text. The words now translated as "Jew" in the Bible, originally meant Judean. Jesus did not follow the teachings of the rabbis nor the writings which developed into the talmud. The pharisees followed these teachings. Todays "Jews" are equivalent to the pharisees of the Bible, and Jesus is not therefore now accurately described as a "Jew". He was a Judean". The meaning of the word "Jew" has been changed and confused.

He sent His Only begotton Son, Jesus Christ, to die for our sins, to die to fulfil the Covenant ( a blood sacrifice) and a New covenant was made! Thus, our old man was put to death in Jesus, that the new man might come to life in us. If your friend read the gospels, it would have saved him! We are no longer under law, but Grace. [ Romans 6: , Colossians 3:] Even you Andrew should read the gospel, not very long, try it 😊. Then you would understand to " seek those things which are above, where Christ is sitting at the right hand of God. " Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. "For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. "[ Colossians 3:1-3]
    The Word of God shows you a better way of living.
    " Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old man with his deeds, "and have put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him." [Col 3:9-10]
